O'Keefe's understand of how the scrum is actually going is certainly novel.

Exactly, how is he missing the Australian tighthead continually boring in, penalty every time.

And that was a clear knock on

Wobs must be shattered keeping themselves in this. Expected them to start falling away before now.

If O'Keefe hadn't kept gifting the Wobs territory and shots at goal with his apalling scrum decisions, this would be a very different game.

Aussies get away with one there. Clear lift of the leg at the maul that the Assistant Ref chose to ignore.

Sending off the Aussie winger after 5 minutes even things up a tad.

I'm reminded of that scene in Trading Places where Valentine breaks the vase which would net the Dukes a profit because they'd insured the vase for more than they paid for it.

Great game and series. I also thought it was pure shoulder charge so was always risking a red.

Game NOT ruined. Just try tackling below the tits for f’s sake.

What was the final score?

Oz v France always seem to be good games, amazed that the midweek game was the first French win over there for 30 odd years

Koroibete has had his red card rescinded.

Some sanity in a rugby world gone mad to appease the sort of wet paper bags we saw in this thread.

It's an interesting ruling - he admitted to a red card offence and got it rescinded. Gonna be some interesting hearings next season.

WR have set their stall out here: If you hit someone high on the body but don't make contact with the neck or head first, then you're okay. Bit of a turnaround from "you're responsible for the head contact that happens when you try and tackle high"

Separately, the fact that Koroibete essentially shoulder charges him should also be a problem - the fact that he sort of wraps with his other arm is irrelevant, he smashed the guy with a shoulder while his arm was going almost straight down. He practically punched the guy in the cock

WR have got to be better at cleaning up tackles, this is a terrible look.

Based on some of the cards and bans we've seen up here, I don't really see how that's not been upheld. The judgement statement is weird.
Having reviewed all the evidence, the committee deemed that Marika Koroibete’s tackle on French loose-forward Anthony Jelonch initially made shoulder to shoulder contact," the statement read.

Subsequently, through the impact, any contact to the chest and neck was incidental by Koroibete.

Therefore, World Rugby’s Head Contact Process was not met due to mitigating factors, and the act of the foul play was secondary.
The main angle from the clip on the website makes the contact with Jelonch's chin look anything but incidental and dubbing that impact "shoulder to shoulder" is extremely generous.

There does seem to be a bit of difference in attitude towards cards (even of the yellow variety) between the Antipodeans and (almost) everyone else.

Can completely believe he hits shoulder first. It shouldn't matter.

The fact that it was a dangerous shoulder charge should also matter.

If he does, it's incredibly split second and Jelonch's chin still wears a shoulder contact. Thus, like you say, hitting his shoulder first, shouldn't really matter.

Not red for me and Jelonch's effort to impersonate David Bory or Huget not very impressive either.

For me it was a yellow, but lets be clear, it was a dumb tackle given all of the edicts about lowering the tackle height and i am not shocked or particularly bothered that the ref saw it as red, deserved a red for the sheer stupidity if you ask me.

"Separately" is a word that means something.

But it's far from the first time I or any other rugby fans, including you, have been baffled by the decision of a citing committee. And all I've said is that WR have made a rod for their own backs by going against previous rulings, and that the admission of guilt of a red card offence leading to no punishment(!) is a very strange thing to have happened.

Players admit guilt to get a lower sanction. Happens all the time.

I said at the time that it wasn't a red. The officials got it wrong.

Players admitting guilt to a red card sanction only to get off scot-free doesn't happen though, does it?

You also thought that a player running into contact with his arm braced to his chest was a red card, and that the Koroibete one wasn't even a yellow, so perhaps your radar isn't as finely tuned as you're trying to make out.

WR have essentially said that the mitigation process should've taken into account that it was shoulder contact first (by a split second) - it still hit the head, it's still a dangerous tackle, it's still a card, and just as importantly it's been ruled a red card in many, many situations before now. If the aim is player safety, it's a shocker of a decision from multiple angles.

A player leading with an extended forearm into a players throat should at least be looked at by the referee.

Koroibete's hit was a perfectly good shoulder to shoulder tackle. I said it at the time. Your interpretation of what happened is wrong.
