Tried to search to see if anyone had already brought this up & couldn't find anything, so apols if RR
The pitch yesterday was struggling during that game, you could see how badly it was cutting up and in the second half the ref repositioned at least two scrums because of it. It's a bit of a worry what kind of state it's going to be in after another test in 7 days. This isn't a troll, I know that the games were switched at very short notice and it would be difficult anywhere to prepare a surface to take that kind of abuse for three weeks in a row, even with months of planning.
Just wondering if Newlands might be an option as an alternative venue? Saffers?
Cape Town stadium pitch
I doubt anyone has cut the grass at Newlands in 3 months.Chrysoprase wrote: Sun Jul 25, 2021 8:39 am Tried to search to see if anyone had already brought this up & couldn't find anything, so apols if RR

Cape Town stadium is 200 years from the beach. The base is sea sand. Terrible place to play Rugby.

Not meant for a hard wearing game like rugby.
It’s a golf course. Not meant for team sports with a soft sea sand base.Chilli wrote: Sun Jul 25, 2021 8:54 amIt is a soccer pitch.Sandstorm wrote: Sun Jul 25, 2021 8:45 amI doubt anyone has cut the grass at Newlands in 3 months.Chrysoprase wrote: Sun Jul 25, 2021 8:39 am Tried to search to see if anyone had already brought this up & couldn't find anything, so apols if RR

Which would be a real shame if that's what the series is remembered for. I know there were all kinds of political reasons why tests were moved to that stadium from Newlands, I just was thinking along the lines of viable alternatives if both the Boks & the Lions start kicking up a stink about it should the pitch become a real problem next Saturday.Gumboot wrote: Sun Jul 25, 2021 9:14 am Yeah, both sides struggled at times with the heavy underfoot conditions. No real chance of sorting it before the next test though, so it could end up playing a big part in the outcome of the series.
Let's face it, with no supporters in the stadium all they really need is a pitch somewhere. There must be some decent clubs in the area, it wouldn't be as good for TV coverage but that's another story.
It was moved because Boolands was an old decrepit piss stained heap of shite.Chrysoprase wrote: Sun Jul 25, 2021 9:21 amWhich would be a real shame if that's what the series is remembered for. Looked bad enough when it is dry, must be awful to play on when it's wet?Sandstorm wrote: Sun Jul 25, 2021 8:56 amIt’s a golf course. Not meant for team sports with a soft sea sand base.Chilli wrote: Sun Jul 25, 2021 8:54 amIt is a soccer pitch.Sandstorm wrote: Sun Jul 25, 2021 8:45 am

You honestly don't think they carted in a fuck ton of proper soil when they constructed the ground?Sandstorm wrote: Sun Jul 25, 2021 8:45 am Cape Town stadium is 200 years from the beach. The base is sea sand. Terrible place to play Rugby.
It's been pissing with rain in Cape Town all week leading up to the test. Saturday was the first sunny day after 5 days of rain. The ground was soaked; which is why it was so soft underfoot.
Go watch the game again, when they showed the turf cutting up it was almost pure white underneath. He can watch the CC and other BILs matches in CT Stadium. Its slippery. Maybe they should roll it. Kittsie was moaning about it now on Vleisboek....Sandstorm wrote: Mon Jul 26, 2021 12:42 pm I've seen Millennium stadium cut up much worse than Cape Town when it was new. Never saw a match in Cardiff moved elsewhere either. It's not that bad.
Kitshoff, who plays his domestic rugby at the stadium for the Stormers, was asked during Monday’s media conference how he felt the pitch held up when he came on to the field in the second half.
“I think the field does cut up a lot and it is difficult to use your feet or plant [them] and there is some pressure coming,’ Kitshoff said. “The field does give way and it becomes very slippery. There are things that we work on, the way we want to scrum, that prevents that slipping. Having all eight guys with their studs in the ground helps a lot.”
Saturated below ground water. It just takes a drop or 3 lost matches on the trot to cause sogginess on the pitch.

No man ouboet. You keep getting sequence of events and the body of messages mixed up. Me. It's names. But only because if you don't mean shit to me I am not going to try remember your name . My context was that there are old boy structures in place to deal with issues at the Union and when necessary they get stuck in to sort things out. At WP all the old boys are suiping wyn and moering locals in Langebaan

Most Saffers wanted this Stadium. Newlands hosted all WP home matches.
