Well, usually a few passes or certainly a kick will deem advantage over.

Many refs say advantage over when the kick comes. He should give a penalty every time Faf and Pollard kicks on their 22.

Yep, expected nothing less from the Boks - always thought it would be ugly and close. Happy just to take the win.convoluted wrote: ↑Sat Sep 25, 2021 10:04 pmTo be fair, he may have been Laidlaw-ed just prior.
5 decades on, but it's the same dear old Boks.
And most of the latter AB dropsies surely owed to the unholy clutter of bodies blocking a clear clean take.
Scrappy and messy, but all's fair ...

Really don't get the boks kicking up and understand on the 22. The way the game was going, a few pick and goes will likely end up with a kickable penalty.
And for the love of God do something about all these lengthy injury breaks, if they're injured go to the sideline, we need to keep the game going

The injury breaks are part of their game plan. It's reported they are not fit so each break allowed them to gain advantage. You can argue the pandemic has disrupted training I guess, but the pandemic is largely the same for everyone.Monkey Magic wrote: ↑Sat Sep 25, 2021 11:10 pm Really don't get the boks kicking up and understand on the 22. I hope Savea was in the refs ear about it but the ref didn't seem to know what was going on most of the time.
Horrible game, a real blight on the sport, but reasonably happy the ABs were able to adjust and match the Bokke at their own game plan.
Just been able to watch a recording of the game - the incessant cheating by the Boks over these fake injuries has to be addressed. They are ruining the game - may as well play gridiron, it would be quicker
I drink and I forget things.
How is that trolling? All these bogus injury stoppages are a blight on the game. Should we just ignore the problem and let it grow?

It's clearly an issue tho. The Boks were deliberately slowing the game down under the protection of player safety.
Abusing the concept of player safety for gain because you have a bigger, less mobile pack is not conscionable, imo.

Bro, if the All Blacks were pulling this shit to slow the game down we'd all be screaming blue murder.
I think we should do the same next week - every time a Bok goes down, we have an injury next play. When we get to 80 minute halves maybe WR will do something about it.Gumboot wrote: ↑Sun Sep 26, 2021 6:16 amNow you're just being silly. Come on broer. In all rugby matches this fake injuries come when teams are close to their tryline on defense to slow it down to catch a breather.Gumboot wrote: ↑Sun Sep 26, 2021 6:16 amNow you're just being silly. Nienaber used it as a tactic. He and Rassie actually brought rulings in our Currie Cup to speed up the game.
So they know how to get the best out of it.
Will be stupid not to use this against the All Blacks.

Excellent. I saw this, and had no idea it was so intentionally dull.
But from the box kicker himself.

I’d say there might be a few springbok supporters who might hope to get a rinsing next week to impart some change.

Unfortunately, having a scrum half not just of that mindset, but to the extent even openly discusses playing a 1-9 game, it would seem difficult to shift. Plus I’d have to say feels pretty undermining of coaching, to be talking like it’s his own decision. He’s the maestro.
Scrumhalf Faf de Klerk believes South Africa must return to the style of play that won them the 2019 Rugby World Cup if they are to defeat New Zealand in their Rugby Championship clash on Saturday, saying the desire to be more expansive has not worked.

It's certainly in the DNA of this team and it would be dumb to try and make changes this week. I suspect we'll get beaten on Saturday and deservedly so. Rassie's blueprint was implemented after a decade of chaos in the Bok coaching structures. We needed quick wins and a turnaround in fortune. I think he knew this and to some extent the lockdown interrupted the evolution of the team.
But no its not in the DNA of Bok rugby. Our better teams have always had a lot more balance and nous than this. This is Northern Transvaal rugby based on having a giant pack. We've become addicted to it since Heyneke Meyer had some success with it. Coaches like Allister Coetzee and Pieter de Villiers tried to change but didn't have the experience or cattle to be consistent.

Very true. They forced it on our provincial teams aswell. As example Stormers coach, Dobson learned his trade at Ikeys whose DNA is to play running rugby. With most of the Bok pack at the Stormers he tried to play Rassie ball. It took ages for him to get to his sense to return to traditional Ikey rugby. Hopefully he'll keep it up.FalseBayFC wrote: ↑Sun Sep 26, 2021 7:15 amIt's certainly in the DNA of this team and it would be dumb to try and make changes this week. Myself don't mind kicking in our own half but vok that's where it should stop.

One would expect a response to a heavy loss would be a mindset change and some housecleaning. Unfortunately that's not the way it happens here. Our domestic sport is in a bad place. Our cricket and rugby administrations tend to react to pressure by collapsing rather than adapting. Politics are having a profound effect on our structures. And I don't mean quotas or transformation. Just blatant and corrupt interference.Ymx wrote: ↑Sun Sep 26, 2021 7:00 am I saw this, and had no idea it was so intentionally dull.

Our national rugby team is now in a state of mind which is uniquely South African. Its called Laager mentality or siege mentality.
Refs commonly call “advantage over” when a player kicks the ball when it is a free kick advantage.
As someone mentioned... actually it might have been Jensrsa on PR.. the Lions showed in Super Rugby a few years back that a modern SAn team can play a multi-faceted game successfully... just requires the right coaches and mindset.
If SA were consistently Number One for the last decade and had a 70% success rate against the All Black.. playing risk-averse rugby, then fair enough. And actually even in the 2019 World Cup final I thought SA were pretty expansive... relative to how they play now. Instead of building on that win, and developing that all-court game further... it's almost gone the opposite way... even more conservative... and even after 3 losses in a row... will they change or double down?

Unfortunately, they consider the last games as a victory for plan A. Compared to how they fared against Aus.Grandpa wrote: ↑Sun Sep 26, 2021 10:35 am As someone mentioned... actually it might have been Jensrsa on PR.. the Lions showed in Super Rugby a few years back that a modern SAn team can play a multi-faceted game successfully... just requires the right coaches and mindset.

You lot are so onto the Boks play, what about your All Blacks?
They kicked a lot yesterday.
Your backs looked scared on the backfoot.
Your forwards were soft compared to the Wallabies.

Yep, the Boks were brilliant in that 2019 Final. Shame they didn't build their game plan from there.Grandpa wrote: ↑Sun Sep 26, 2021 10:35 am As someone mentioned... actually it might have been Jensrsa on PR.. the Lions showed in Super Rugby a few years back that a modern SAn team can play a multi-faceted game successfully... just requires the right coaches and mindset.

I think this is very true. It could be the long Covid break followed by an intense Lions series in which the hype led to both teams being very overcoached and ultra-conservative. I was hoping after the Lions series we would lose the shackles and blood some new players, but we've done the opposite and gone backwards in my opinion.Grandpa wrote: ↑Sun Sep 26, 2021 10:35 am If SA were consistently Number One for the last decade and had a 70% success rate against the All Black.. playing risk-averse rugby, then fair enough. I'm nervous for the upcoming game. All the Kiwis seem to think that this AB team played the worst game they've done in 100 years. If they won playing like this, imagine how many tries they're going to score next week. In fact the Springboks may never ever win another game against them if they are to be believed.

Since 7 October 2017 in 6 games the average score difference has been less than 3. I'm conveniently leaving out the 2 57 point results and the 41-13 result earlier in 2017. But for a team that plays such one dimensional and dumb rugby and I believe we do, that would suggest we're not far off the All Blacks. Its the ability to absorb and apply pressure at critical moments, that extra bit of rugby IQ that makes the All Blacks so hard to beat. Its not a coincidence that they've beaten us in the last 10 minutes a good number of times.
All true. They need to up their game. The Boks won't let them off so lightly again... will they?OomStruisbaai wrote: ↑Sun Sep 26, 2021 11:11 am You lot are so onto the Boks play, what about your All Blacks?

Maybe it's having a new coach? He has no record to fall back on... so has the pressure of needing results... if Rassie was still coach, he has a lot of goodwill having won the world cup... and would be able to try different ways of playing without the same pressure to win?assfly wrote: ↑Sun Sep 26, 2021 11:48 amI think this is very true. I am guessing... unless Rassie is in favour of this current style as well?/

Etsebeth is our Itoje and we need him to disrup your forwards. Surely he will be rested.
I also think Reinach and Junkies will start. On their average they are far below par.
Despite Fafs poor and endless kicking he sure is our first on rush defense. He was once again brilliant in this yesterday. Can't afford to give BB space, he offload like your midfield to anyone when under pressure. We had two nearly interseptions that could have stick.
Anyways it will be a new test everything from scratch.
