If a vaccine is approved for use in the relevant age group, then why would you need to ask a friend if it is ok? This is how all these anti vaxxers cling to their absurd conspiracy theories - they are trying to break down trust in the medical establishment
Vokkof....I have done more to get all my staff as well as my wifes staff vaccinated than you have...after all your boasting here...and we took precautions right from the start you laughed at...and were vaccinated before you.....Its natural for a woman to feel afraid for their children...sandyvagina should know this...

Pitiful response, but did not expect much more from you

Glad your boss did that....well done to him...
It's very very important that we as business owners encourage the staff to get vaccinated...even if it means a little push. We have a work wattsap group. And we give huge praise to all those that got vaccinated and posted the pic. They love that kind of thing

Have we reached herd immunity in South Africa ? We have almost completely abandoned any restrictions and have under 20 percent of the population vaccinated. The 3rd or is it 4th wave is now trending down steeply. The death rate is following the curve so its unlikely to be a testing numbers issue.
This is not going to help our vaccination cause though. Without the fear factor the antis are not going to budge. I hope we don't find ourselves in a predicament where we are Covid free but international pariahs because of our low vaccination levels.

I'm not sure about the science behind herd immunity, but I guess the coming months will tell. We went quite quickly from our 3rd wave to the 4th wave, but numbers have suddenly dropped even though our vaccination rate is very low.FalseBayFC wrote: Fri Sep 24, 2021 7:21 am Have we reached herd immunity in South Africa ? Education will be key to getting those on the fence to come forward for the jab. I think it's important to distinguish between hesitancy and anti-vaccine positions, as they should both be dealt with differently.

I think vaccination will trickle on at the same rate as it currently has. Although it seems at least some people are getting vaccinated due to the incentive to go watch live sport again. Last Friday when I went for my 2nd jab there were 2 black guys I chatted with in the line and they were both there for their first jab due to that announcement about only vaccinated people will be able to go watch live sport. Both big Kaizer Chiefs supporters that could not wait to go to a match again. The one also went to Lions games every now and then.FalseBayFC wrote: Fri Sep 24, 2021 7:21 am Have we reached herd immunity in South Africa ? I think coercion will make a huge difference, especially if driven by the government.

Yup agreed. Find activities that are close to South African hearts and hang them out as carrots. All those churchgoers that think God will protect and do not need a vaccine might start thinking its God's will to get vaccinated so they can go back to church

I can't see any other reason for the decline in infections. Talking about herd immunity seems to be a little unpopular in the scientific narrative. I can understand that because it dilutes the vaccination message.assfly wrote: Fri Sep 24, 2021 7:28 amI'm not sure about the science behind herd immunity, but I guess the coming months will tell. If we have achieved herd immunity it's come at a huge cost and will be temporary according to what I've read.

Yeah I have read about a few studies coming out of Europe that seem to indicate that natural immunity is temporary, lasting between 6-10 months. So I do believe booster shots will be part of our future for some time still. Our bodies are not developing immunity against the mutations. Then again Covid is a similar type of virus than flu and our bodies do not build immunity against the yearly flu mutations either. So hopefully our bodies eventually develop a strong enough resistance that covid becomes just another flu we deal with yearly.
A friend of mine in the USA is going for his first booster shot next month, its 8 months after he got vaccinated. He was advised by his doctor to get the booster now.

It’s going to be pretty worthless when the digital passports are issued and have a verification code liked to your ID number and a central server.
It can still be forged, but you’ll need an inside accomplice to get you into the system, not just somebody that lifted a bunch of empty cards.

I think they most likely will not start opening up events and venues until the digital version is in place, apparently the digital version is based on a common platform supplied by WHO that will be used around the world for international travel, etc. Supposedly it has several anti-counterfeit systems built in. Will see how well it goes. Originally I thought it would be out last week, but seems like there is delays. Or else I missed the download link.Blake wrote: Fri Sep 24, 2021 5:51 pmThey should use the opportunity while they can.average joe wrote: Tue Sep 14, 2021 11:19 am They're already selling fake vac certificates in Marabastad

Problem is, no matter how secure it might be designed, it still can’t stop a corrupt nurse entering an anti-vaxxer’s ID number into the system and just pretending to have administered the dose.
There are quite a few such cases in the USA, but their ID system is not nearly as good as ours.
It is still going to happen though and frustratingly these cunts are going to fuck up the vaccine efficacy stats when they inedibly get admitted to hospital.

I am not sure how they operate at all the vaccination sites, but it seems you have to get past a few people that check your details on the system before you get your shot from the nurse. At least at the discovery site I was at, my details were checked about 3 times before I got to the nurse and then she entered something in the system as well, each time someone typed something into the system, also it was quite random who you end up with, so to falsify your entries you would need quite a few people in on it.Blake wrote: Sat Sep 25, 2021 6:45 am Problem is, no matter how secure it might be designed, it still can’t stop a corrupt nurse entering an anti-vaxxer’s ID number into the system and just pretending to have administered the dose.

But I do not know how they do it at places like Clicks, etc. No system is ever foolproof though, so who knows how it will actually work. Still would be better than the current piece of cardboard and ink we got.

SA records 2 106 new Covid-19 infections, as 108 die of virus
By IOL Reporter Time of article published 40m ago
Johannesburg - More than 2 100 people in South Africa have been infected with the coronavirus in the past 24 hours, with the Department of Health confirming a further 108 deaths as a result of Covid-19-related complications.
The latest figures takes the number of confirmed Covid-19 infections in the country to over 2.9 million since the first case was detected in March last year.
This also takes the number of confirmed deaths to 87 525 to date.
“Today the institute reports 2 106 new Covid-19 cases that have been identified in South Africa, which brings the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 2 900 994. This increase represents a 4.6% positivity rate,” said National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) spokesperson Sinenhlanhla Jimoh.
In terms of hospital admissions, more than 143 people have been admitted in hospital due to Covid-19, taking the total number of people currently hospitalised due to the virus to over 6 713 in the public and private medical facilities.

The NICD said over 17.6 million tests have been conducted since last March, with over 45 000 testing for the virus in the past 24 hours.
In terms of the latest new infections, Jimoh said the KwaZulu-Natal, the Western Cape and Gauteng accounted for most of the new infections in the country, with 30%, 18% and 11% respectively.
The Eastern Cape and the Free State, 10%, Northern Cape, 9%, North West, 6%, Mpumalanga, 5% and Limpopo, 1%, made up the remainder of the new infections.
Jimoh said the 7-day moving average of daily number of cases has decreased.
“The total number of cases today (n= 2 106) is higher than yesterday (n= 1 367) and higher than the average number of new cases per day over the 7 preceding days (n= 1 671),” she explained.
The following table is a summary of reported Covid-19 admissions by sector.
Meanwhile, over 148 000 vaccines were administered across the country in the past 24 hours, taking total vaccinations to over 17.3 million to date.
My mum just arrived from SA for a long visit. Been two years since I last saw her and she saw her grandsons thanks to Covid.
But at least it's starting to feel like things are slowly going back to normal. It's so great to see families being reunited.

No, South Africa is on our green list. Just needed a negative PCR test from within 96 hours.

The booze ban I can handle.
Thankfully we are booked to go away november.....We will be close to ouboet.....he won't rent his possie out to me so we had to book in the reserve.....

Agree. The infections may get high but the recovery rate will be high, allready on 95% which means the vaccinations kick in. 19 Million already and go great each day at the moment. If we can keep this up, I think Rona will be like the flue from February 2022assfly wrote: Thu Sep 30, 2021 11:01 amI can't see the next lockdown being as bad as previous ones. I get so mad at the 2 staff I have that have not vaccinated. I caught both of them with their masks off today. They don't want to vaccinate yet they are the ones walking around no masks. Sorted that out quickly. My policy is clear. If you are not vaccinated you wear your masks at all times. If yes you can take it off at your workstation. Ultimately I cannot risk them or my other staff because they don't care

Hope the crowds can get back soon. I will definitely be in line to get a ticket for the first game we are allowed back in. It would be interesting to see how crowd attendance will be when it happens, people might be so starved for live sport that the first few games could have pretty good crowds depending how many would be allowed in a stadium.OomStruisbaai wrote: Thu Sep 30, 2021 5:03 pm Family meeting tonight at 8. Yep - it seems that they will be making announcements about sporting and cultural events "in due course". I'm dying to sit under the Oaks at Newlands with a beer to watch some cricket. India tour in Dec/Jan and play 3 tests in Joburg and Centurion, 3 ODI's and 4 T20's in Paarl and Newlands. I am hoping to attend all the WC ones and fly to Wanderers for the 1st Test.bok_viking wrote: Fri Oct 01, 2021 12:30 pmHope the crowds can get back soon. It looks like we are getting very close to fans being back in the stadiums. Read the news that the aim is to get fans back in by 12 October for the soccer game between Bafana Bafana and Ethiopia, they are trying to get everything in place by then for the No Vaccination no entry drive. So we might be able to go watch the rugby games by the time that the teams return to SA for the first games here.
Cant wait and go to some cricket games as well again.
