I heard something on the lines of the galaxies aren’t moving apart in space, it’s the space containing the galaxies that’s expanding. How could we tell? Rhetorical question maybe, I won’t understand the answer.Lobby wrote: ↑Sat Sep 11, 2021 10:24 amOn the same theme, the asteroid belt, which contains many millions of asteroids (it is estimated that there are between one and two million asteroids more than half a mile across, plus untold millions of smaller ones) is often portrayed as being a densely populated part of the solar system
In reality, the average distance between asteroids in the belt is 600,000 miles, and collisions between larger asteroids happen on average once every 10 million years. The chances of a spacecraft accidentally colliding with an asteroid is one in a billion.
Things that don't deserve their own thread
I was just sitting there minding my own business like!!!
https://www.theguardian.com/world/202 ... afia-bossThe lawyer for a man from Liverpool mistakenly apprehended in the Netherlands on suspicion of being a notorious Sicilian mafia boss and the world’s most-wanted fugitive mobster, is calling for the Italian authorities to withdraw the execution of an arrest warrant against him.
Last Wednesday, around 5pm, a 54-year-old British man, identified by his lawyer as Mark L, was cuffed while he was having a meal in a restaurant in The Hague by heavily armed police who pulled a hood over his head and dragged him out in front of dozens of terrified customers, according to media reports.
It was a nightmare and could have happened to me or you – and, this time, it just so happened to be him,” the man’s lawyer, Leon van Kleef, told the Guardian. “When they told me he had been arrested because he was believed to be Matteo Messina Denaro, I thought they were joking. I mean, my client was born and raised in England and has an incredibly strong Liverpool accent. It was obvious from the start that there was a misunderstanding.

Read an interesting article that speculated that the belt not Mars may well become the other heavily inhabited part of the solar system - once we get enough critical industry into space the belt contains all the building materials we need and its going to be easier to build space habitats next to all the building materials than on Mars.

Does anyone else think that within the next 50 years,... we will find a way to greatly extend a human life.. if not indefinitely, at least for hundreds of years? Returning us to youth-like condition as well... (that part may take a bit longer, but hang in there)

Had to break up an imminent fight this morning walking the dog
A Couple with a pair of dogs off-lead (in an off-lead area) were getting irate back at an irate father who was filming them and shouting at them to put the dogs on the lead as his children were frightened.
It very nearly kicked off until I walked between them
Covid stress/Entitlement I guess.

Southeastern Rail goooonnneeee
How many franchises now had to be taken over by government? It's the second time for the franchise operating the London & SE services. The government has stripped rail operator Southeastern of its franchise after "a serious breach of good faith". Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said more than £25m of historic payments due to the Department for Transport were not paid.
He said the Operator of Last Resort would take over the running of rail services in the south east to protect taxpayers' interests. Southeastern said passengers would see no change in day-to-day operations.
In a series of tweets, Mr Shapps said: "We won't accept anything less from the private sector than a total commitment to their passengers, and transparency with taxpayers. "Through the Operator of Last Resort we'll prioritise the punctual, reliable services passengers deserve."
Southeastern operates between London, Kent and East Sussex. The rail operator confirmed services would transfer on 17 October.
"All tickets will remain valid after transfer and new tickets can continue to be purchased in the usual way," a statement on Southeastern's website said.

If it's solely from the festival I could imagine all sorts of stimulants could end up in there. If it's from the locals it's more likely to be a toxic brew of weed, mushrooms, acid and industrial strength scrumpy.

Should it be yellow/penalty or yellow/try ?
Email I received today from Anita. I think I'm in there lads.
I am 25 YO and I'm working very hard to start to be boob model for Penthouse. I've taken quite a number naughty disclosed images to give to this journal, however I cannot really find anybody to provide me a personal viewpoint. Would you like to watch this portfolio and get in touch with me if they look nice. I want a nice dude's opinion... If you really want what you see, you'll want to come visit me. I am now living in Amsterdam and may give you a face to face nontraditional dance... Let me know;)

I think the charging officer may have gone slightly to town on the attempted murder, but its certainly a nasty act.A Brazilian footballer has been charged with attempted murder after he brutally kicked a referee in the head during a lower league game in the south of the country.

DPD
Fucking shambolic !
I fucking hate it when I see something I've ordered online gets handed over to this shower of useless arseholes.
If they handed it to someone random in the street, there's a better chance of it getting to me, by the promised delivery date !
Yesterday I rolled my eyes, when got an sms message letting me know my delivery between 22:00 & 23:00
Sure enough; nothing arrives; & then I check the status, this morning, & it shows as, "Delivered", with a transaction time of 22:54 ... so in other words, the driver gets an alert, & knowing that there''s no signatures these days; they just mark it as delivered, & throw it in the big heap of undelivered packages in the back of their truck.
They're the cheapest fucking couriers, because they hire anyone with a bicycle to deliver their packages, & don't give a shit if they ever get delivered. The worst kind of gig economy racket & I hope the exploitative bastards go out of business ASAP !

Judging by the initial 'tackle' and immediate followup and the eagerness in everyone throwing hands.

It's something that's changed in the last couple of years; they used to be fine, but now they obviously use gig workers for deliveries, & then penalize them for missing the estimated delivery time; so they fake the delivery time, & knowing they can do that, take on far more delivery's than they could ever deliver in a day.tabascoboy wrote: ↑Wed Oct 06, 2021 8:10 pm Honestly never had any problems with DPD, Hermes though...
The stupid fucking thing this is that we've an excellent postal system, that is fuck loads more efficient, & staffed with brilliant posties, but is fractionally more expensive. I'd happily pay more to use them & not the DPD shower of shit

All my Amazon Prime deliveries get dropped off by my Postie, & he knows if I'm not in, to drop it inside my garden shed.
I actually paid for this fucking delivery, & it was only coming from Kerry, & the cunts still haven't delivered it

Fried egg and chips is the food of the gods, clearly, with omelette and chips a tasty alternative. Yet if somebody offered you scrambled egg and chips you would assume they were barking mad or taking the piss. To most rational minds, the very thought is beyond abhorrent. Odd really, but there we are.
