Stop voting for fucking Tories
PFI came into being with Major iirc, and you are once again stating that the things New Labour got wrong were their alignment with right wing or free-market economics.
I agree with you on that.

Major's government did indeed invent PFI then promptly buried it during their term as it offered such poor value for the taxpayer. This is basic knowledged FFS.

The basic knowledge FFs is available on Wikipedia
It, PFI, was initiated in 92 and as the quote says "expanded considerably in 96" the year before Labour took office, but I still agree with you that this right wing initiative to take public spending off the books was wrong

Random1, I don't think that everything is fine, I think that we are in great jeopardy. It's not enough to shrug things off by saying all governments are corrupt to a degree and where we are is fine.

Come on, when has anyone EVER been satisfied with those components of any government, and where it’s not in the needs improving camp.Tichtheid wrote: ↑Sat Oct 16, 2021 10:44 pmWell, I do, but if I thought that Health, Education, infrastructure, (it's late, I'm struggling) and everything else was being looked after and that people were genuinely being taken care of when they needed it, would I seek change?
Yes, I'd want these things to be better done for, but I also know that it's very difficult to do it, but these things should not be for the enrichment of friends of those who award the contracts/ provision

Because Brexit & Trucker shortages are causing shortages of the chemicals to treat waste water; the Tories gave the water companies carte blanche to dump as much raw sewage into the UKs waterways as they like.

Not clear to me why the media never challenged the "loan" bollox to the gas cos either. A loan is not a loan if you know the borrower is going to go bust and never repay.

The home secretary should really weed out these foreigners that can't even speak the language and deport them back to where they came from!

Ouch!
I think it would be more accurate to say he used to be a Tory.
Coleshill was originally elected to Enfield Council in 2018 as a Conservative, but was suspended from the party a few months later when he was accused of making racist remarks in a council meeting; he had asked whether the Turkish family of a Labour councillor had “brought a classroom with them”.
He remained on the Council as an independent until June this year, when he was kicked off the Council for failing to attend any meetings for over 6 months. A by-election was held to replace him in July.
So he was only actually a Tory for a few months in 2018. It also seems pretty clear he’s now a bona fide loon and ‘lockdown sceptic’. In November last year he was charged with breaching lockdown restrictions after attending a public gathering in Hyde Park. He entered a ‘not guilty’ plea in court but the case was later dismissed and a fixed penalty notice issued instead.
Yeah uh the problem of MPs being accosted isn't limited to people from other parties; you're just as likely to get harangued by people who are supposed to be on 'your' team. The Tories have courted the lunatics for a while so always risk this, and Labour has plenty of fringe weirdos and the momentum types to take aim at their own MPs.

There's a significant element of British politics online who bemoan the decline of civility and trust in our democracy who will also jump straight into believing Gove orchestrated a pile on onto himself for *reasons*. Social media is a bad thing.Ymx wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 8:08 pmDon’t go ruining the narrativeLobby wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 6:59 pmI think it would be more accurate to say he used to be a Tory.

I dunno, seems like a timely reminder for them that there was once an age of bloody revoltion where the people would rise against those in power actively working against the people's best interest.sturginho wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 8:14 pmSpeaking of weirdos, some utter muppet has been arrested for putting up a mock gallows outside parliamentJM2K6 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 7:54 pm Yeah uh the problem of MPs being accosted isn't limited to people from other parties; you're just as likely to get harangued by people who are supposed to be on 'your' team. Fan of the Civil War that I am, an MP got murdered last Friday so maybe was in poor taste.

Indeed, after the events of last Friday I think MPs are all too aware that there are some people in society who want to kill them, so I am not sure that they really needed another 'timely reminder'.Paddington Bear wrote: ↑Thu Oct 21, 2021 8:50 am Fan of the Civil War that I am, an MP got murdered last Friday so maybe was in poor taste.

Tbh I was being needlessly flippant. I just bothered to actually google the incident and it was erected by anti-vax types, which I definitely can't agree with.

Said before but the extent to which there is value in reposting the slightly loonier side of europhile twitter to here can be overestimated.
