It does seem to be heading that way - ominously gun sales in the US have been triple the average since COVID19. Apparently half of the sales have been to first time buyers.
Surely the military would be still too strong? Or are they going to split too?
The Military, (excluding the States National Guards), command authority comes from the President. If there's no POTUS, there's a difficult hole to bridge.

It would also be unprecedented, to say the least; to deploy Federally controlled Soldiers to the States, without the States requesting them.
Why won't there be no POTUS?
Plus in a civil war the constitution will be the first thing out the window.

Well, come January; if there's no election, there's no POTUS; that's how this part of the thread started; I assumed we were continuing with that senario.

The GOP consider themselves the guardians of the constitution; & there's no way the Shitgibbon will convince them to back him over a document they worship; no way, no how !

I thought the scenario wasvthe Dems winning the election and putting Trump and co in jail as a precursor to civil war.

The GOP are already backing Trump over the consitution.

The heads of the armed forces have made clear public statements that they are not for use against their own civilians.

Tammy Duckworth was mentioned as one of Biden’s possible VP picks. I see that she was born in Bangkok, and in the constitution it states that the President must be born in the US. So what happens if Biden can no longer carry on his duties?

NY prosecutor has cited 'protracted criminal conduct' at the Trump Organisation to back up his bid to see Trump's tax returns.

I believe that the President must be a "Natural Born Citizen." Her dad was a US citizen and veteran, and she was born (presumably) while he was stationed overseas.

She's as American as John McCain was.

Her Dad was a Marine; so he was probably serving an the Embassy there when she was born.

John McCain interestingly enough was born in Panama; & no-one suggested he couldn't run, because he was born in the Canal-Zone; which was technically US Territory at the time.

Trumps shakedown of TicTok is classic Art of the Deal stuff. He has forced Chinese company to hand over the growing social media app to the US and now wants a kick back from whoever gets it.

The latest round of court filings around getting access to the shitgibbon's tax records is interesting.

I've only read a few bits & pieces; & I amn't a lawyer; but a couple of things from the Federal sides gee-up to the courts were suggestive:

- they mentioned Insurance & Bank Fraud.
- they mentioned a concern around statute of limitations as a reason for accelerating proceedings.

To an amateur like me; number one smells of pumped up valuations; & claims made upon these false valuations.

Number two is tougher, as we don't know when the offenses they're looking at happened; but its a good gambit to get the courts to release the returns.

The shitgibbons tame lawyer, Barr, might just have screwed the pouch too; by his direction that he didn't feel bound to respect the guidance previously given by the DoJ, not to interfere with elections.... this time it's his boss who could have discussions of a pending case against him discussed in the media, right up to election day .....

I begin to wonder if anyone is telling Trump just how poorly America is doing, and are instead repeatedly telling him how amazing it all is...

I'm watching the full interview at the moment...

I genuinely believe he's being told what he wants to hear by his "advisors".

He believes the USA has run twice as many tests as Europe. They haven't, it's about the same.

It's insane, but it really is the front of the boat falling off stuff. Only Trump interrupts and wanders more.

That does seem to be a huge part of the problem in that he's not willing to deal with reality, he may not even be capable of dealing with reality, leaving his staff to try and placate him in seeking some way of presenting information to assuage his tantrums

For over 3 years if one tries to ignore the economic, societal and economic damage he's wrought there was the slight comfort at least he hadn't had to face a big challenge. And then he's had to face an issue even the most competent of leaders would have faced a barrage of criticism over

You think he is a problem now, wait till he is out of office and heading Trump tv, and he gets to monetise (the what 40% of the country who voted for him) and have them pay 7 dollars a month.

Trump TV could be bigger than Fox news.

He and his family could be bigger than the Murdoch empire.

Shoot me now.

But without Bill Barr and the presidency to protect him, he may equally be doing a stint in clink.

Bill Maher explained it best.
America was having a massive party on the West Coast and East Coast.
Time of their lives.
Oblivious to the rest of the US.
The vast tracts in the middle went completely ignored and were actively shunned and uninvited to the raging party of opportunities, wealth, good times abound..

So they basically decided to say sod it, let's burn the place down by electing the biggest most dangerous idiot we can get.

And here we are.
We will probably be here in February too.

For trump also read Brexit.

But then you hear that the 12 states considered to make up the MidWest, with a population the same size as the UK, has a GDP that's bigger than Germany. So how much was it true that the entire middle was left behind? How much was that a media / anti-elites picture to generate division?

Half an hour interview, start to finish it's absolutely insane.

Forget all this talk of Biden and a debate. All Joe needs to do is turn up with a TV and have this on loop. Pause it every now and then just start playing again when Trump opens his daft fat gob.

The interviewer gave him four opportunities to say one decent thing in memory of John Lewis. The only thing he could say about him was 'he didn't come to my inauguration'.

It came completely from me. Sorry if I seem like some sort of nutter. I watched an interview with her and was impressed, so I checked Wikipedia and no further and was just wondering about possibilities. Curiosity and nothing else.

I was expecting a level of cunning or 4d somethingness. But he can’t even manage the level of duplicity of an entry level average noob politician.

I don't want to labour the point but just watched it again to make sure I wasn't being whooshed and it's even worse on 2nd viewing. I kept looking for obvious places they cut it etc, but no, it seems to be real....

It's clear he was never a smart person. He kept his business empire going by being openly narcissistic and vindictive. He does that now as president and those who don't quit or get fired are serving him out of fear. White House staff and cabinet members are not too far off from calling him - "Great Supreme Leader" a la Kim Jong Un.

They'll be investigating this administration for 20 years, maybe never fully unraveling the level of corruption but it's important they put a few heads on spikes early.

It's still a bit mind blowing to think about what has gone on in plain sight.

The heads I want on spikes are Ivanka, Kushner and Don Jr. Let’s face it, Trump is an old man and any punishment for him will be minor. What would hurt him more is those three spending time in jail.
