"If we had to play a World Cup final on the weekend, we would probably select Willie because of his experience and what he has done for us in the past."
There it is, Nienaber's fucking mantra again. It makes me mad. We won't go anywhere with that, but end up crashing out of the RWC in two years time in the pool stages.

I'm not thinking specifically of Beast but if the 3 year stand down/Tier 1-Tier 2 eligibility laws ever kicked in, I reckon Zim could put together a fairly decent squad of 30 somethings for a World Cup one day.assfly wrote: Fri Nov 05, 2021 6:40 am The Beast is on the latest GBR podcast. Doesn't really give away much that I didn't already know (apart from allegedly being the heaviest baby born in Zimbabwe), but his comments on Rassie are interesting, especially around transformation.
I was talking about something like this to a recently capped Sables player the other day. He's a private school educated black kid trying to make it in CT. The numbers of high-class Zimbo rugby players at English medium high schools and playing in clubs and Varsity cup if significant. Throw in Don Armand, Dave Ewers, Mike Williams from Leicester, Eli Snyman etc and you have a team that is no.2 in Africa easily.
That's true. But I think the problem will be the amount of players who have permanently left Zim, who would be hard pressed to go back (even temporarily) to play amateur rugby. There's plenty of talent in the country and SA at the moment to challenge Namibia, but in order to do so they'd need a propert coaching setup and some money.FalseBayFC wrote: Fri Nov 05, 2021 8:02 am I'm not thinking specifically of Beast but if the 3 year stand down/Tier 1-Tier 2 eligibility laws ever kicked in, I reckon Zim could put together a fairly decent squad of 30 somethings for a World Cup one day.

NieNaber success rate have move up and is above Rassie (65%) and level with Jake White & Heyneke Meyer on 66% after 12 tests. We only had the BiL & Georgia as home tests , so its quite an achievement.
Rassie is still the coach dude.........wake upOomStruisbaai wrote: Mon Nov 15, 2021 8:29 am NieNaber success rate have move up and is above Rassie (65%) and level with Jake White & Heyneke Meyer on 66% after 12 tests. We only had the BiL & Georgia as home tests , so its quite an achievement.

Difficult to find a win more satisfying than one against England.assfly wrote: Mon Nov 15, 2021 8:37 am A win against England will cap off a very good season, all things considered.

Also 2 home tests agains the Argies, but still, agree with your sentiment.OomStruisbaai wrote: Mon Nov 15, 2021 8:29 am NieNaber success rate have move up and is above Rassie (65%) and level with Jake White & Heyneke Meyer on 66% after 12 tests. Started off his senior coaching career under very trying conditions with very limited prep-time facing the Lions, and then having 7 away games in a row against the Aussies, All Blacks, Wales, Scotland and England is no joke.
Hope we can cap off the year with a NH clean sweep (only SH to achieve this if we pull it off) and start focusing on 2022; building some depth at 8, 10 and 15 and getting some of our broken players back.
Exactly. The nice thing about the Nienaber/ Rassie combination is that we kept the same WC winning players and coaches while most countries had to start with a new cycle of coaches and players.

Brilliant, noticed that during the game but didnt get what he was trying to say
No need to complain about the coaching setup as well. If it works, why change it?

As long as we have a Sharks player captaining the side the future is ours.
I wonder what the situation will be like for players returning to their clubs and provinces after this?
Those playing for French clubs will be right back into it, which is a shame as Eben has earned a few weeks off I would think.
Fringe players (like Fassi) must go straight back into playing for their provinces. But starting XV players like Kolisi could do with some time off too.

It was well worth it. My eldest whos birthday we were celebrating got a top Cape Stumpneus. Over 40cm so basically top of the range for these fish that only reach 40cm at full maturity. A personal best for a species that he can be proud of. We were in a reserve with nothing around us for 30 kilometers in either direction. Lots of game. Our cottage was top notch. Overlooking the river ( had to keep doors and windows closed at night because of mozzies.). Amazing coastal hikes with caves and natural sea pools to play in. No technology beyond using the phone as a camera. Braai for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It was a complete reset.
Looking at your "rugby" posts, it was no reset at all. Happy for your little guy tho.Sards wrote: Mon Nov 15, 2021 9:49 amIt was well worth it. Look. As amazing as it was....not really kid friendly. Not much for them to do . The fishing we had to travel 70 kms for as its a reserve. Ideal destination for bird and nature lovers taking a break from everything

Rugby was meant to unite our people. I was there when Madiba opened the 1995 RWC. That image is iconic.. Watched the boks beat the Aussies. Some greats in both those teams. I had just arrived back from Egypt

Absolute horror story in the news this morning.
Jannie du Plessis' 1 year old son drowned in their swimming pool yesterday.
I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. Condolences to the family. Not sure if you can ever recover from something like that.
