Is Lance Armstrong the worst figurehead that any sport has had?

That may not be correct either, in fact it's unlikely. The general take afterwards was that she was erect when first hit on the side of the hip, then side of her upper arm and then side of the head as she was falling down. And she coudn't have been cowering directly against the door as the body ended up a way back against/over the toilet.

Why would he go to the toilet without his legs? If he heard a noise and thought it was an intruder wouldn't his natural reaction be to wake her up next to him? He had enoughtime to realise she wasn't in bed next to him.

Oscar did seem truly sorry he was expected to go to jail for murdering someone

He was found guilty. Of murder.
Everything else is semantics.

I believe his version of events but as mentioned it does not matter (there are some loose ends but in general his version sounds believable and he never changed his basic version of events). He wanted to shoot the person in the toilet so there's intent already established right there (so it could never have been culpable homicide like the first court of hearing erroneously found...but on the other hand also a clear indication that the judge believed his story that he thought he shot at an intruder and not his girlfriend). There were not sufficient grounds for self defence as it was found that he was not in immediate danger at the time (although one can argue that he might have been more vulnerable on his stumps if it had been an intruder).

Amethyst, sorry but I don't really get your point. Is it that convicted murderer Oscar Pistorius isn't the worst figurehead that any sport has ever had, or is it something else?

Well, his conviction actually has nothing to do with sport. He just happened to be a relatively well-known athlete. Media sensationalism.

I do however see your point. It's just that the topic opened up the opportunity to discuss some details of the case.

You’d have to go with Armstrong surely. A successful drug cheat in a sport drowning in drug cheats is one thing but the abysmal way he tried to destroy careers of those who attempted to expose it is another.

Who was the poor lad struggling to get a contract, and certainly struggling to get a well paid contract, because he wanted to ride clean, who when leading a stage in the tour after a breakaway found the peloton chased him down rather than grant him the honour of a state win at the behest of Armstrong because Armstrong wanted to punish him for being clean?

He was earning from memory something like 10-15% of what he could've earned because he wouldn't agree to being doped. After the peloton chase him down to deny him the win he quit the sport in anger, normally the peloton would never chase down a huge individual breakaway, but Armstrong wanted the message sent out within the sport. I can picture him in tears after that stage, I just cannot recall his name

Amethyst, you’re on glue. Oscar had a fight with his girlfriend. She locked herself in the bathroom. He tried to smash it open with a cricket bat, then in a rage got his gun and fired through the door.

Don't swallow up the shit what your UK media dishes up. Your sequence of events is totally fucked up anyway so don't know if you are just taking the piss ( for instance the distance he fired the shots from, trajectory of the bullets, etc. ). There was NO evidence of a fight. The chilling screams that was heard was that of Oscar, that has been well established in terms of the timeline, etc. In plain, you are talking utter shit...did you actually follow the case?

The case was big news in the UK. I don't know anybody who believes Oscar's lunatic version of events, not even a little bit. Shameful he got off so lightly.

He got off so "lightly" because the judges who actually had all the facts before them conceded that his story could be possibly true. Otherwise he would not have received the absolute minimum sentence for murder but a life sentence. Anyways, he'll be out on parole in three years time. Just in time for the olympics.

Ah, I thought he got off lightly because he's rich, famous and white.

What is a life sentence in SA? In the UK you could have a life sentence and be released

Also consider Graeme Obree. He signed with a pro team and was sacked the same day after the team told him he would have to dope and have to pay for it - he turned them down.

Rich, famous and white? WTF are you talking about? We have a proper judicial system not some fucken kangaroo court that can be bribed. Besides, almost all our judges are actually black now so there's no chance of letting a whitey get away with anything. Well, life sentence is what it says for life. You may qualify to be considered for parole but not before you have spent at least 25 years behind bars. You will of course be subjected to the parole conditions for the rest of your life.

Yeah, I don't think it was Bassons, I'm almost certain it was an Italian and I think it was Lance himself that chased him down.

Ah, that incident. It was Filippo Simeoni.

Simeoni had just testified against Michele Ferrari who Lance was getting his doping advice from at the time.

Simeoni had just testified against Michele Ferrari who Lance was getting his doping advice from at the time.
As Simeoni attempted to escape the peloton, Armstrong picked up the pace and chased him down.

But after catching up, Armstrong continued the attack. “Lance chased him down vindictively, sat behind him, mocking him,” Armstrong’s former teammate Johnathan Vaughters recalled. “Eventually when Simeoni comes back to the peloton, Lance comes up to the camera and does (zipping motion across his lips). You cannot get any more fundamentally evil than that.”
