Some rugby fans have taken the information and deduced who they think it might be. Jake said on PR it's someone else.

That could be who Jake is refuted it is. He says it is some one dropped 4 or 5 years ago. A back.

This. I think everyone gets overly concerned about what can and can't be said on an anonymous Internet forum.eldanielfire wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 9:36 pmSpeculation is fine, as long as you treat it for what it is and not for the truth.

Oh no, I don't care about what can and can't be said, I just think it's really ghoulish that people respond to a rape by eagerly reeling off names tbhBlackmac wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 9:40 pmThis. Jake`s second sentence on PR doesn`t quite read right to me. It is possible to find an ex players name in the initial part of the sentence but the career of the person potentially named is a bit out of synch with the other information given so could just be a coincidence.eldanielfire wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 8:01 pm https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/sport ... -rape.html

I don't care to speculate, but what's the law on this sort of thing?
I recall reading about a Kiwi that wanted name suppression on something like drink driving and it was denied.
I imagine suppression provides the victim some anonymity, esp in cases where dickhead fans find out and target the poor person. Sounding like the media know who it is, is it legal reasons that they haven't / don't name or more professional (I know, I know... tabloids, really?) / risk of being sued?

Just for information, please do not speculate names here, innocent until proven guilty and all that, once it his public domain that's fine but until then please do the right thing, this is not just to protect the player, but potentially the alleged victim too.

Can we focus on the crime?
What are the chances this was their first attempt?
A male, with the help of his partner/wife, drugged and raped an teen in a nightclub!A man was arrested on suspicion of rape and a woman was arrested on suspicion of administering a substance with intent to cause a sexual offence.

“Facts are meaningless. You could use facts to prove anything that's even remotely true.”
I've absolutely no idea who this is, but that exact thought crossed my mind.Insane_Homer wrote: ↑Wed Jan 12, 2022 9:12 am Can we focus on the crime?

All the money you made will never buy back your soul
Rape/sexual assault allegations are a tricky one for both the accuser who should be protected and made to feel safe and supported, and the accused who deserves a fair investigation and trial.Niegs wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 11:30 pm I don't care to speculate, but what's the law on this sort of thing?

There is an argument that by naming the accused party may encourage more victims to come forward but on the flip side, someone falsely or even worse maliciously accused of rape/sexual assault can have their life ruined by this type of accusation.

Then you have someone like Japie Mulder, whose identify wasn't a very well-kept secret after his offense.
He pleaded guilty to indecent assault and attempted rape of a minor.
Not even a slap on the wrist. Not sure whether he was sued in a civil court though for possible damages (read: $$$), but certainly no criminal damages.
If it's any consolation, his name was removed from the Wikipedia page of his hometown (which is my hometown and current place of residence too) in the "Famous people from this town" section.

Rugby is a smaller world and there's a greater connection between the pros and the amateur game. Far more likely that it will leak out.
Old men forget: yet all shall be forgot, But he'll remember with advantages, What feats he did that day
True. Sorry, I meant to say it may be months before his name is officially released. Pretty sure we'll know who it is pretty soon. Just like the Everton player.Paddington Bear wrote: ↑Wed Jan 12, 2022 9:57 amRugby is a smaller world and there's a greater connection between the pros and the amateur game. How is he seen now in the wider South African community? Is he ostracised?troglodiet wrote: ↑Wed Jan 12, 2022 9:52 am Then you have someone like Japie Mulder, whose identify wasn't a very well-kept secret after his offense.

He has admitted the attempted rape of a school girl. So no ambiguity? How did he avoid criminal charges?
Yeah, you're right.Insane_Homer wrote: ↑Wed Jan 12, 2022 9:12 am Can we focus on the crime?

There's an allegation of an horrendous crime. If it's proven, the people involved are shits who deserve to suffer.

I'd not heard about this Everton player. Is he still playing regularly?
