England Rugby player arrested with partner for alleged rape.
Give a man a fire and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.
Only one who's actually got England caps and could reasonably be described as "well-known". The Daily Mail headline was "England international rugby star", and while I think Josh Beaumont is a good player, that's a real stretch... Other papers reported is a "former England international". Training squads aren't going to count here.Raggs wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 11:03 amLike I said, there's 3 Sale players that could be classed as England players, all of whom haven't been involved with England for years, and all 29.JM2K6 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 10:55 am I don't think there's any doubt who it is, especially with Sale having confirmed a member of their squad was arrested. I don't know if you're actually unsure who it is but I can assure you that a bunch of players and ex-players are all saying the same thing, and his name was also accidentally released by the Telegraph yesterday. Plus overseas media were under no obligation to hide his name.

Plus, it does not seem the lad has been charged yet. Arresting is just a necessary part of the process, most people arrested will not be charged.JM2K6 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 10:55 am I don't think there's any doubt who it is, especially with Sale having confirmed a member of their squad was arrested. OTTOMH, I could only think of 2 Eng intl backs at Sale anyway (I guess they have so many safas there) and oddly, 1 of them is the player I'd would have immediately assumed based solely on the info "England back". BUT, it probably isn't him. Which shows why speculation is a bad thing.
Regardless, we should really wait the result of any legal process before casting stones?
If it is a back, then most probably not a flyhalf or fullback.
They tend to prefer the other guys.

Funnily enough, the speculation in France was that it was the same player I would have had immediately come to mind. This raised an interesting point: should one clarify that the speculation was wrong? Morally, you feel that you should quell any such stuff when you are sure it's aimed at the wrong person (e.g. Cipriani). But then you get into the "Is it X? Is it Y?" scenario which, by iteration, leads you back to what you are trying to avoid!
I removed it, it gave a name, i reiterate, regardless whether the name is an open secret elsewhere, it is not official so pleaae dont put it on here until it is released.

That was doing my head in earlier. I kept clicking and refreshing to no avail. Bloody ASMO confusing us.

Me too... I thought it must have been a Druid Jedi mind trick!
There is no legal issue with speculation. I think Twitter might have issues first should that be a problem.
But it was more a moral thing as we figured it out whilst everyone was still dancing around it being Cips elsewhere. That’s why I dotted my posts.
The name is now rife on social media and plenty of sources tbh.

Marland Yarde: I’m sorry for getting arrested – now I want to get back to rugby
September 2 2022, The Times
Marland Yarde wants to restart his rugby career after apologising to his family and friends for being arrested on suspicion of a “very serious offence” this year.
The former England and Sale Sharks wing, 30, was arrested in January and subsequently released by his club. He has not played rugby since, but now wants to return to the game.
On his social media accounts Yarde, who has won 13 England caps, said that he had been cleared of any charges.
“In January, as I think is known by some of the rugby community, I was arrested on suspicion of having committed a very serious offence,” he said. “A necessarily lengthy police investigation followed but I can now confirm that no further action is to be taken against me. I have not been charged with any offence.
“Whilst I never doubted my innocence, I understand that the investigation had to be handled with care and sensitivity for the protection of all involved.
“Although innocent of the crime alleged against me, I take full responsibility for having put myself in a situation where an allegation could be made against me. I am working hard to improve myself as a person using what the incident has taught and shown me.
“I want to apologise to all my family and friends for the hurt and distress I have caused them. Their love and support gave me the strength to see a positive future and I look forward to resuming my career doing what I love, which is playing rugby.”

Interesting also that he appears not to be going to take Sale on for some sort of unfair dismissal claim.
Anyway, I'm sure some Fre club will give him a contract. He could go to Brive and join Olding.

How would he be able to go after Sale?Torquemada 1420 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 05, 2022 9:48 am Interesting also that he appears not to be going to take Sale on for some sort of unfair dismissal claim.

I assume because they terminated his contract before the facts were known and he's subsequently been found innocent.C69 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 08, 2022 8:22 amHow would he be able to go after Sale?Torquemada 1420 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 05, 2022 9:48 am Interesting also that he appears not to be going to take Sale on for some sort of unfair dismissal claim.

Don't be f**king daft. It was clearly reported at the time that Sale had let him go and it wasn't going to be down to any other reason than his arrest even though other players thought he was a pr*ck (e.g. Marler).C69 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 08, 2022 8:32 amReally you know the details of the termination of contract?Torquemada 1420 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 08, 2022 8:29 amI assume because they terminated his contract before the facts were known and he's subsequently been found innocent.

Didn't get to court as probably not enough evidence. Maybe there was a clause in his contract about "bringing the club into disrepute? He's had a reputation for this sort of behaviour at all the clubs he's played for. Was dropped from a matchday squad when on tour in S Africa with England U20's for sneaking hookers into his room!!!Torquemada 1420 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 08, 2022 9:48 amDon't be f**king daft.
