Short, sharp, hailstones.. I wonder whether we will get a report of a tornado later?
UK is melting

And do immigrants cause cancer?
Still nada here in terms of rain. Breeze has picked up a bit since the afternoon and more haze in the sky, so hopefully something's on the way.
Saw some absolute headcases out running in the middle of the afternoon.

http://www.raintoday.co.uk/ shows a monstrous thunderstorm currently crossing the channel, should make landfall by 9pm, and a cooler breeze has just picked up

Short but violent thunderstorm came through here at about 4.30. Made little difference to the sweaty horribleness of the day.

Hopefully, though it might fizzle out to just some rain by the time it gets to the south coastGong wrote: ↑Wed Aug 12, 2020 6:04 pm http://www.raintoday.co.uk/ shows a monstrous thunderstorm currently crossing the channel, should make landfall by 9pm, and a cooler breeze has just picked up
Can see the cloud overhead already, it's like a scene from Independence Daytabascoboy wrote: ↑Wed Aug 12, 2020 6:36 pmHopefully, though it might fizzle out to just some rain by the time it gets to the south coastGong wrote: ↑Wed Aug 12, 2020 6:04 pm http://www.raintoday.co.uk/ shows a monstrous thunderstorm currently crossing the channel, should make landfall by 9pm, and a cooler breeze has just picked up
I don't know if anyone's been checking the real feel temps but it's been 38C every day in London this week. I was on my third sweat handkerchief within 2 hours of leaving home today.
Got caught in the torrential rain for all of two minutes which was magnificent. If I didn't have all my camera gear with me I would have stayed out in it longer.

Just had a storm here, well not quite here but 2 miles north of me, never seen anything like it, mostly sheet lightning, but a constant rumble of thunder whilst clear sky overhead! Another on now coming in over Swansea heading my way, hope that one rains!

Saw some lightning last night but the storm did fizzle out before it reached here just to give some rain first thing - and another very warm and humid night and start to the day. At least a little less hot today and things start to go back to normal from Friday
Was disappointed last night, saw a ton of lightning in the distance but fuck all came my way, some pathetic excuse for rain this morning as well.tabascoboy wrote: ↑Thu Aug 13, 2020 7:14 am Saw some lightning last night but the storm did fizzle out before it reached here just to give some rain first thing - and another very warm and humid night and start to the day. Cool I didn't actually realise you can embed tweets
You were quite right, didn't even get as far as the IOW, still no rain.tabascoboy wrote: ↑Wed Aug 12, 2020 6:36 pmHopefully, though it might fizzle out to just some rain by the time it gets to the south coastGong wrote: ↑Wed Aug 12, 2020 6:04 pm http://www.raintoday.co.uk/ shows a monstrous thunderstorm currently crossing the channel, should make landfall by 9pm, and a cooler breeze has just picked up

Still pretty warm this morning, but with the windows open there's some actual movement in the air and a cool breeze. It's unbelievably exciting.

Bleh, far enough from Southampton that rain there won't have any effect here.
Texted a friend in London yesterday who said that it's been around 35 for over a week and she's been WFH in a flat with no AC. Big city heat is awful, although they got storms yesterday.
I'm in work full time and it's the most pleasant place to be with proper AC.

Deffo cooler here today, but still the undercurrent of humidity, i am hoping for a bloody good storm at some point.SaintK wrote: ↑Wed Aug 12, 2020 3:22 pmYep, only a slight drizzle now and STEAMING!!!sockwithaticket wrote: ↑Wed Aug 12, 2020 3:09 pm We just had a 20 minute hail thunder storm. I'd find that pretty entertaining TBF!
My boss does lots of cycling (and lives in NF), but he said that his group have cancelled a few trips in the last couple of weeks. Too hot. They were planinng a loop of the IOW, but it wouldn't be sensible doing that in 30°+ heat and intense sunlight. Seen a few mad bastards out running in Southampton Common in the middle of the afternoon in the last week. Dunno how they manage it without collapsing from dehydration or a heart attack!
To be honest there is an alien spaceship hidden in that cloud

I was in SW London London yesterday but a few miles to the east having lunch. We could hear the thunder and it got overcast above us, but no rain at all.

Just had a very localised downpour here, came from nowhere. Guess it's the beginning of the end for the silly heat although some places might still get 30 °C tomorrow.
