Publication delayed officially now:
The Cabinet Office will not publish Sue Gray's report while the Met Police are investigating events at Downing Street and Whitehall during lockdown, the BBC has been told.

It is not clear how long this investigation will take.

The Cabinet Office put out a statement earlier to say the investigation by Gray, a senior civil servant, would be continuing while maintaining "ongoing contact" with the police.

The terms of reference of the Gray investigation say: "As with all internal investigations, if during the course of the work any evidence emerges of behaviour that is potentially a criminal offence, the matter will be referred to the police and the Cabinet Office’s work may be paused."
It comes to something when the PM's best hope for keeping his job is to arrange for a report into his misconduct to be delayed by agreeing to a criminal investigation by the police.
So Gray interviewed the Police, about their knowledge of people flouting the rules in #10; but until a civilian leaked the full SP to a journo, & other CS, & Policos inside the Government confirmed the details of the crime; the same Police; sat on their hands.

AS SaintK has pointed out, another factor in this announcement is that the perpetually useless Cressida Dick (how is she is still in her job as well?) was about to be questioned by the London Assembly and would have no doubt been embarrassed by questions about the Met's inaction on Downing St's blatant flouting of the rules. Making this announcement got her out of that particular hole, and so was convenient for both her and Boris.

Correct. No idea how long the investigation should take though - you'd think it ought to be pretty quick.
It really is a terrible distraction. The world is going to hell in a handcart and yet this bull dominates the news cycle.
A situation which demands a true and capable leader, not the gobshite we have at the moment
But we have one...........according to the cunt Jacob Rees-Mogg. Not sure which planet he's on mind :wtf:
The government is going from strenght to strength.
The government has done an amazing job: the vaccine rollout, the furlough programme, the economy [bouncing back to] pre-pandemic level. The leadership of Boris Johnson this country has had has been so brilliant that he’s got us through this incredibly difficult period and he’s got all the decisions right. We have opened up faster than any other European country thanks to the prime minister and I’m honoured to be under his leadership.

Hard to see how for the Met Police they've done anything than repeatedly bottle doing their job when it comes to Boris, over many years. Whether it's Acuri, Russian interference, parties they've continually turned a blind eye.

I was going to ask - if she had published her report and even if it had criticised the PM - surely we couldn't have a situation where the police couldn't then do anything? That's a ridiculous state of affairs. Although ridiculousness isn't a barrier to anything.

This is the perfect chance to bury this. The Met can take forever and then, for good measure, just to ensure this runs until after Boris is dead AND no-one is ever held accountable, we can have a full scale public enquiry.

At what point does it become, destruction of evidence ?

So RTE, the Irish Broadcaster, are reporting that the Cabinet are absolutely furious; because Cressida Dick told the bumblecunt; presumably last night; that she was going to announce the investigation, this morning .... but he never disclosed this to the Cabinet, at this mornings meeting; so they all got completely sandbagged; when the walked out into the street, & got bombarded by the reporters, who knew more than they did about the Met investigation .... ooops

Sounds like the report may be published anyway now since the police have no objection.
I'm struggling to see exactly how much more evidence the tory MPs need to get rid of him, since he obviously won't go off his own bat

Sue Gray report may be published before Met investigation ends

We've got a breaking news line now from the BBC's Political Editor Laura Kuenssberg.

We've been reporting that parts of senior civil servant Sue Gray's report into Downing Street parties will be delayed while the Metropolitan Police Service investigates.

But Laura says this may now have changed. She says the Met seems to have indicated they have no objection to the full report being published before the end of the investigation.

This means the report may be published sooner rather than later.

However, she adds that the situation remains very unclear and there's a real sense at Westminster that nobody knows what the decision will be.

We'll bring you more details as we get them.
So clearly, Gray completed her investigation; & referred the incidents she thought could have breached the regs; & at that point #10 took the opportunity to hold the report, & punt for more time; but the Met doesn't fancy taking the blame; & is leaking to all & sundry that they have no objections. Time for another urgent question to demand the report be published.

Fully published or heavily edited? Though I'm still not convinced the MPs in the Tory Party will act on it and send in the letters to the committee.

It'll put enormous pressure on them to take a position. So far they've all been fobbing off their Constituents, with holding replies.

They've eaten a lot of shit for this PM, & there's more to come; from the Met looking into the Party; & the behaviour of the Whips; etc, etc.

Do they really need more encouragement; from dismal performances at By-Elections; to have them see, he's now a liability, not an asset ?

The report is rumoured to include photographs which were given to Sue Grey by some of the civil servants she interviewed.

There are going to pictures of him wearing a fucking party hat, aren’t there.

Sue Gray has received photos of Downing Street parties which include Boris Johnson and others close together with wine bottles, Sky News understands.

The latest revelation comes shortly after a government source said senior civil servant Ms Gray's report into parties in Downing Street and Whitehall that may have broken COVID rules could be published as soon as tomorrow.

I've read that the understanding with Gray was that it would be released in full. But, apparently she's not necessarily one for transparency either.

Can't imagine it can be withheld now, but more junior names less subject to disciplinary action might be redacted I'd guess.
