Ah right, "dismissed" according to Jacinda.

At this rate there won't be anyone left to vote for in September.

An affair with an ex staff member... and he is sacked because Ardern says she has lost trust in him. That’s a pretty brutal punishment.

In the context of it, not really, she worked in a department that he headed time of the affair, and don't forget he was the minister for workplace relations and safety, entirely sackable IMO

Perhaps it’s a quirk of NZ politics but on the face of it, an affair isn’t a sackable matter to me. Perhaps there’s more to the story... but affairs happen in all spheres all over the world without a public beheading.

Perhaps he was sacked because, like many Labour ministers, apart from his former staffer he was also fucking useless.

Gordon Bennett on PR wrote:Good to see National commit to extending electrification to Otaki. But why stop there? Demand is growing massively in Levin and these places are likely to expand further in the future.

So, the Greens policy is for big extensions of commuter rail. National have committed to Otaki. Labour have funded extension through to Pukekohe.

Will we see any other similar commitments in this election round? Anyone keen to finish Pukekohe to Te Rapa or Waikanae to Palmy? When compared to any of the RoNS projects, the numbers touted for electrification seem relatively small (though station upgrades and the like soon hike the cost). Electrification to Otaki has been touted to cost $100-140m including additional trains (http://www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/98 ... too-costly), but National have said it'll cost $300m (which presumably includes some new stations at Peka Peka or Te Horo or something). In contrast, the Horowhenua Expressway would cost nearly $1bn. So, you could probably get electrification + trains + station upgrades all the way to PN for about the same cost.

Anyway, apologies for talking policy amongst all the semantic tripe.

Since this is a thread about politics. I was wondering whether the reference to NZ as Aotearoa sits well with the majority of NZ'ers?

Ardern and Bloomfield to hold a press conference in a few minutes.

Sounds like there could be a fresh outbreak in a Christchurch rest home.

Fuck.

Not ChCh, a family of 4 in South Auckland.

So, community transmission's back after 100 days.

Auckland back into Level 3 from tomorrow.

Auckland to be at Level 3 for at least the next 3 days. Level 2 for the rest of the country.

Rumour mill is rampant about additional cases outside Auckland but Dr Ashley's comments this morning seem to say otherwise.

National can see an opportunity to buy some time and have enlisted their shock-jocks to scream for a delay "to be fair". I am concerned that a party that wants to govern hasn't got the ability or nous to campaign virtually. Get with the times old fogies - and who wants all of your new roads anyway.

Usually the rest of us would start taking the piss out of you Kiwis for being such smug dicks when everyone else was suffering.

However this is neither the time nor the disease to behave like that. Stay safe and beat the virus, lads.

Hopefully we'll soon find out, Jacinda and Ashley are holding a press conference at 1pm.

Unlikely, but if this shit came into the country on the surface of frozen goods we're in big trouble.

It would mean that potentially it's already in every frozen foods aisle of every supermarket in the country.

Surely that would mean adding a procedure to disinfect all imported goods. What sort of cost would we be looking at?

Heard any evidence of this happening elsewhere? This is why smart people have been washing

13 new community cases. Surely L4 is coming to Auckland by tomorrow and perhaps L3 in the rest of NZ

all linked to same cluster though, which is something. If contact tracing works, you can get a handle on it without shutting the whole place down for very long.

Yep, that's relatively encouraging news. And no change in alert levels yet.

Yes they are all linked but now you have 13 people who have been asymptomatic and spreading the virus through potentially another 200-300 people over the last 7+ days.. The same growth happened last time before we went into L4. The writing is on the wall.. This is all for Auckland mind you, not having found any cases in Rotorua so far is good news.

Tomorrows 1pm update will be key, if cases increase by more than todays Auckland will be L4 by the weekend.

I have just heard there is the usual 1pm report and an afternoon report after cabinet (4pmish). That will be the lockdown announcement you'd imagine

Not all bad, we're starting from a very low base number so I'm not too concerned with a runaway UK/Brazil style complete fuckup. We've already been through this and it's only Auckland so far.

The chopping into Defcon 4 is a worry though if it comes to that.

I think you have to hope like hell it can be attributed to the Americold storage and that it got in that way. Then you know you have got the source. If it isn't from there, then this thing is far more widespread in the community and already out of control...

Bloomfield has already said it won't be from an item, and it will be person to person. If that is the case then like you said we are in a much worse position. If a person or persons before the index 4 has it and spreading it then god knows how far this could go on. If it was an employee of Americold that had been overseas you would have thought they would have ID'd that by now.

I reckon if all cases by Friday are in Auckland, then L4 in Auckland for 2 weeks, Level 2 in rest of North Island for 2 weeks, and I reckon they should take the south island back into Level 1 but with compulsory QR Codes everywhere.

I'm not sure why, but there seems a disproportionate amount of weirdos campaigning against lockdown and any type of covid vaccine in Northland.

I see that fuckwit from that peoples party has whipped them into a protest in whangarei. What a bunch of cunts.
