Not sure about any anti-vax idiocy, but I think there's some concern the Auckland lockdown could create a Northland "island" largely cut off from the rest of the NI with all that would entail.stunt_cunt wrote: Thu Aug 13, 2020 5:07 am I'm not sure why, but there seems a disproportionate amount of weirdos campaigning against lockdown and any type of covid vaccine in Northland.

Nats questioned by TV One (and made to look bloody uncomfortable) for their anti-Government stance on covid. JuCo will lose that fight and she would be better advised to try to work with the Government and make it look like a whole-of-Government approach.

Winnie has gone onto Aussie TV and said that the current cluster is due to a breach of the quarantine at a managed isolation venue.
PMs office knows nothing about it and evidently the news has gone to Winnie via a reporter.
Hugely damaging if he's right

The details of a breach will be vital in which way the country blows up in light of it.
You can get some leeway and understanding in an innocent chain of events accident, it would almost be a hanging offence if it's some dipshit dropping a bag of weed of to his mate or some security guard fucking a quarantinee.

Anyone remember the South Korea man from a couple of weeks ago ...?
Of course it came through the border
No blame on “New Zealand’s Saviour “ of course but who ever is in charge of the borders has let one slip
If it's one of these, I think the consequences need to be as severe as the letter of the law allows. My opinion is that Jacinda and her team have exceptionally well, and I'm generally in favor of the whole "Be kind" ethos she promotes. I just think if they stamp Covid out again in NZ, it's time for a bit of steel and a no-nonsense approach to enforcing quarantine.
I'm likely to be one of those affected, and heaven forbid, if I have to ever hurry home for family illness or loss, a strictly enforced 14 day quarantine on entering the country will be massively inconvenient and maybe even heartbreaking. But I'd expect it to be as strict as possible, in light of all of the hard work that went into getting NZ covid free. I'm sure most fleewees feel the same, and it's tiny minority of selfish idiots who are jeopardizing all that hard work. Time for a tougher line to be taken with them.

So then apparently nearly 2/3rds of Auckland's border isolation staff have never been tested.https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/new-zeal ... k-ago.html
That is rather shocking and coupled with the various escapees kind of makes this reversion to lockdown look inevitable. Of cause the Pm has now committed to compulsory testing, this is good but also akin to shutting the door once the horse has bolted.

I heard that too. There was also something on Aussie TV about a possible ménage à trois between Judy, Gerry and a chicken. At least they think it might have been a chicken, however a feather duster caught in a fatburg or Donald Trump were also proffered as a possibilities.EnergiseR wrote: Thu Aug 13, 2020 8:16 am If I may bring some cold logic to this thread. Shits all over the place. East Tamaki, Otara, Papatoetoe, Mangere, Central Auckland, Central West Auckland, Glen Eden, Albany. Through schools and workplaces.
Auckland is fucked. Level 4 by tomorrow afternoon and then napalm from the back of the Hercules to save the rest of you.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was a quarantine bungle. The hotels are never going to be a rock solid form of defence and every country faces a risk when you're obliged to take in returning citizens.
We've had evidence that it wasn't a watertight system in NZ as well. People fucking off without being tested and getting out early on compassionate grounds are a couple of examples.
Up until now, NZ has been lucky, despite what Muttonbirds and his ilk might claim about being the stay at home world champs.

Does NZ have a tracing app in place ?
It might have felt redundant when you were virus free; but about now it would be worth it's weight in gold.

It's not a runaway yet, I get the feeling we will move pretty swiftly into a hard containment again to knock it out, but we can't keep doing that to business.
It's all well and good to point at the border control and say this this this this that's not good enough, but inside that thin veneer of protection we've been lazy as fuck as a population, just no responsibility at all, none, like covid didn't even exist . Well, now we know it does and we might just have to start doing things a little more cautious and with a little more effort in personal responsibility.
Chances are this will be broken down to human error and there will be huge kerfuffle over some element that entirely absolves the population of any personal responsibility again, when really the population has to wise up and start living like theres a global pandemic and we aren't just some isolated haven.
We're all guilty of it.

Knew it. Truthfully and not because I am a Magus but I knew this would happen months ago. A zero Covid strategy was impossible and being wedded to it means any outbreak becomes overinflated with importance. When it does kick off there as by the law of averages it will the repercussions will be bigger than needed. Having said that I am not sure she for have done anything different the way public opinion went just she will have a price to pay. We now have a few zero Covid spoofers over here making out it will be a tiny bit of pain for loads of gain. BolloxTed. wrote: Thu Aug 13, 2020 12:11 pmI heard that too. None of the NZ parties are apparently talking about an estate/inheritance/death tax. Ours was abolished last century and it appears that there is no political will to resurrect it. In fact, I think Labour explicitly excluded from consideration by the Tax Working Group.fishfoodie wrote: Thu Aug 13, 2020 6:37 pmThose two taxes disproportionately advantage the wealthiest 1%. They do daily health checks - temperature checks, symptom checks etc - so it's not like they are flying completely blind. If anyone shows symptoms they are tested and not allowed to work. They also wear extensive PPE.Ted. wrote: Thu Aug 13, 2020 9:14 pmCan't disagree with you on that, JP. Part of the problem is that PCR tests won't necessarily pick up asymptomatic people. That means you could be asymptomatic when tested, work your shift and then not find out until later in the day or the next day that you are positive.
I guess PCR testing would add another layer of comfort but do you shove swabs up the noses of your workforce daily? It seems to me continuing with the daily health screening with PCR tests every few days would be the way to go.
Confirmed cases in Tokoroa now, Level 4 for the North Island is surely on the table now.
There are reports of a new Covid-19 case in Tokoroa.
South Waikato Mayor Jenny Shattock told Stuff the council was advised at around 5.30pm on Thursday about a staff member potentially being linked with a known Auckland case.
Meanwhile up to 300 people who attended church on Sunday have been urged to get tested for Covid-19 urgently after a family at the congregation tested positive.
Everyone who was at the Congregational Christian Church of Samoa Māngere East Puaseisei on Sunday and anyone who has been in contact with those who were there are being told to get a test as a precaution.

I'm in line with this post. I want the government to be as firm as possible and will accept the 14-day quarantine if I do return. Pretty close to home being in Taupo. Those Aucklanders that were in Rotorua also passed through Taupo at the weekend and went for a cruise on the Lake. Can't imagine going to level 4 but level 3 (Level 4 with takeaways) seems likely.

Serious question: Is their a more putrid sight in NZ politics than watching that idiot Brownlee smirk after his 'outlining facts', and then in comes the crusher with her desperate attempt at getting the media to 'ask questions of their own' ? In this time - THIS time where this bloody event has affected many people world-wide, those bumbling fools try to inject their own bullshit into this - all for political gain. You think they would learn after Bridges's own debacle the first time around. I'm not saying the Labour party is/has been free of cunts, but National have been winning this race for an age (probably the only thing they're winning atm).Ted. wrote: Thu Aug 13, 2020 12:36 pm 'I’m just outlining facts': Watching New Zealand getting red-pilled, in real time
