The Official Scottish Rugby Thread
Here we go then.
I think this is an absolutely must win game for us. If we have any pretensions of winning a championship, or a good WC run, with this current squad, we have to be beating, and beating well, a mediocre and disorganised England team at home.
Anything less and we can forget it for another decade imo.

I've already written off the RWC - the draw is just the worst possible and I don't see us beating SA or Ireland then.Slick wrote: ↑Fri Feb 04, 2022 10:24 am Here we go then.

So 2 6N campaigns left for this generation to bring some serious silverware home.

I do wonder if this is the reason for the meteoric rise of Tuipolotu. Whilst I don't necessarily agree with the assertion that what we need to beat SA and Ireland is more size (we will never out-brutalise SA in particular), there is a school of thought that gainline success is one of the key ingredients we are missing to have more success against these teams. A huge 8, a hulking 12, at least one massive wing and colossal locks. I would rather more brains and guile myself, more akin to the Aussies or the ABs, but for many bigger is better.clydecloggie wrote: ↑Fri Feb 04, 2022 11:51 amI've already written off the RWC - the draw is just the worst possible and I don't see us beating SA or Ireland then.Slick wrote: ↑Fri Feb 04, 2022 10:24 am Here we go then.

I understand the this generation thing - Russell, Watson, Hogg, Maitland, Harris, McInally, Gilchrist, Nel - but when I look at the 2027 world cup, most of that team is currently playing - Ashman, Schoeman, Fagerson, Gray, Cummings, Ritchie, Bradbury, Vander Merwe, McLean, Kinghorn, Graham. Redpath, Hutchinson and others. Plus Russell will be 34 at that point (Jonny Sexbugger is 36), as will Hogg, Ali Price 33, so one or more might still be going. I'm still confident for the future.clydecloggie wrote: ↑Fri Feb 04, 2022 11:51 amI've already written off the RWC - the draw is just the worst possible and I don't see us beating SA or Ireland then.Slick wrote: ↑Fri Feb 04, 2022 10:24 am Here we go then.

The 20s are going well against England, 12-10 up at half time. The number 8, Leatherbarrow, is a beast. Christian Townsend who looked out of his depth last year has been very good too. I don’t think I have ever seen our U20s compete on an even basis in all facets of the game including set piece with England for more than 10 minutes, let alone 40 so even if they get blown away in the end they’ve shown great promise.
Their defensive system is very odd though. A 4 man sweep behind the line with a focus on one or two men shooting out the line to take out the ball carrier or passing options. It has been very ineffective with England basically bypassing the whole defence quite easily in attack.

England pulling away now.
The commentator is one of those smug ‘England superiority is inevitable’ twats.

Does that make it less shit though? He’s not a cheerleader, he’s a neutral commentator. Being a smug twat is not endearing.Kawazaki wrote: ↑Fri Feb 04, 2022 9:41 pmKingBlairhorn wrote: ↑Fri Feb 04, 2022 9:38 pm England pulling away now.

Fuck me, have a word with yourself. The Jock co-commentator is far worse.

Lawson is shit, I have no problem admitting that. You seem to be taking the comment awfully personally. Here’s an idea, why don’t you fuck off from our thread.Kawazaki wrote: ↑Fri Feb 04, 2022 9:45 pmKingBlairhorn wrote: ↑Fri Feb 04, 2022 9:43 pmDoes that make it less shit though? No, it isn’t. It’s racist.
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.
I don’t know why you’ve felt the need to revert to twat the last couple of days. Is there a story about a Scotsman in your life you want to get off your chest?
All the money you made will never buy back your soul
I've thought about this and no, it's not fucking acceptable.
I think not all xenophobes are racist, but that all racists are probably xenophobes.
When you have a history of posting against change at Exeter and whether someone is Scottish enough to play for Scotland (very dodgy ground), then come out with derogatory terms like Sweatie and Jock, the jury can't really be out for much longer.
Then the arrogance to suggest that their attention is something that they deign to give and we should be grateful.
Fuck Off.
In case of any doubt, that is me being personal.

You're very highly strung and have tissue-thin skin. Have you ever played rugby before?
I played for my country at a level below full international.Kawazaki wrote: ↑Fri Feb 04, 2022 11:28 pmTichtheid wrote: ↑Fri Feb 04, 2022 11:21 pm I've thought about this and no, it's not fucking acceptable.

All I will say to you on this is that your chosen public persona sits on very unpalatable ground.
That was your choice.
I know it's a deliberate troll, but the xenophobic language is beyond the pale
I fully concur with the opinion that Toga should fcuk the fcuk off with his poor trolling but are we really saying Jock and Sweaty are racist terms now? I always took them as a compliment growing up (and I dare say as a child of Scottish parents in South London I heard it a lot more than those up here). If people are honestly taking offence at those terms then in the words of that mad old bastard Bulldog people really do need to grow a spine.

It takes a spine to say "No, I won't accept it", stand up to it, tell the people who put you down with those terms that it will not wash, they can fuck the fuck off.
The terms are not complimentary, they are only used to belittle, like Paddy, Taff, Paki... I could go on but it can only get worse from there

You were a winger weren't you.
I agree with that.
Sweaty is only ever used by obese Englishmen who sit at the end of the bar thinking everyone is their mate, when actually everyone thinks they are a cock, and regaling dull as fuck stories from their rugby past, before heading home to their sad lonely existence.
Every club has one.
Don’t they, Toga?
All the money you made will never buy back your soul
That is the bit that puzzles me and why I asked how old he was. I thought it might be some kid getting a kick out of moronic trolling, seeking reaction.
I’ll let it lie now.
Sad thing is, he’s loving this. Imagine how pathetic your life needs to have turned out for this to be your thing.Slick wrote: ↑Sat Feb 05, 2022 9:11 amI agree with that.

He should have stayed on PRF with the other bellends, but when we manage to cock things up later, just try to ignore him.
All terms used as racial slurs go through a period where those who use them claim they’re affectionate, or ‘just a bit of banter’. They aren’t. They’re just low-level racism.
It is no longer acceptable to use terms like ‘Paki’, ‘Wog’ or ‘Darkie’ to describe people, although all of them were considered ‘banter’ not that long ago. It’s borderline nowadays to talk about ‘Paddies’ and ‘Micks’. ‘Jock’ and ‘Sweaty’ are exactly the same. They haven’t yet become socially unacceptable to use, but hopefully that time isn’t far off, because they are the exact same sort of xenophobic nastiness.
