And presumably Argentina after that?

That’d be a hell of a few weeks holiday
Yeah the RGs is already confirmed.

The SRU are pretty good at sharing the love around. We've played away on Samoa, Fiji, USA, Canada, Georgia and we're due to play away to Romania too. We've toured Japan aswell even though they are now not really a tier 2 (or are they?).

Santiago doesn't seem to be the easiest place to get to.

Usually have to go through Spain but there used to be one direct flight a week which may well have been dropped for the time being

A South American journalist only mentioned it yesterday as a rumour he'd heard so wouldn't be confirmed anywhere. Seems very random if it is made up, but it could be. Or there could be discussions but it go no further.

Wouldn't expect it to be a capped game if it happened though. I wounder if we make it a "Scotland XV" rather than A, if Dempsey can play?

Would a Scotland A team get sent to Santiago? Flights and accom would be very expensive for the SRU unless world rugby pay?

Depends. This would be quite a big deal to South American rugby if the rumours are true. So there would be lots of interested parties in this.

The "Rugby Chile" twitter that seems to have started this don't say where the game is to be played. Could be in Argentina the week before test 1.

Wouldn't need many more players added to the squad. If the Lions are left at home then there'll be a few guys who are "A team level" in the squad anyway. The likes of Hogg haven't had much time off since rugby restarted after lockdown. He may need to be saved from himself.

That's true, it'd be a shame if Chile don't get to play us in country though. And I'd expect it would be a slightly larger/weaker squad.

The problem we currently have is absolutely no back up fullback. So whilst I agree Hogg won't play Chile... Argentina without a Hogg would be a tough old task.

I agree, but I guess it is more a risk going into a WC with no alternative. We are going to need to start developing the back up plan soon. We've seen Seymour retire, Maitland be semi retired from internationals and Kinghorn moved position. They must have some back up plan... maybe.

Darcy Graham I guess? None of the other wings in the current squad play 15. Forbes the coming man seems to have regressed from last year. Ollie Smith had a promising appearance but will have to get ahead of McKay.

It's less than ideal both pro teams have (excellent) non Scottish qualified fullbacks.

I think you'd simply see some positional adjustments. Darcy Graham, Ross Thompson, Stafford McDowall, Adam Hastings, Rory Hutchinson, Rufus McLean and Damien Hoyland have all played fullback before, as has Kinghorn (obviously) and there's Ollie Smith breaking through at Glasgow. I agree we don't have a top class replacement of Hogg's quality, but we are a mile away from having absolutely noone.

Saturday was my third Calcutta cup match at Murrayfield (2008 Jason White tackle on Sackey), (2010 Shite dull draw) and my last 6 nations match was the 2013 ROG officially past it match vs Ireland. Guess I'm a good luck charm since Scotland haven't lost a match vs England whilst I've been in live attendance... I've since had a couple of rewatches as my seat was in the corner of the 2nd tier of the West stand so good for the tactical overview but a bit far out to pick out what was happening at ground level.

Forwards put in a stout resolute defence but it was really Turner and Z Fagerson (who luckily managed his aggression well) smashing the English carriers back in 1-on-1 tackles. Gray and Gilchrist did a decent enough soaking job but Skinner was outstanding in his impact off the bench running over Ford and getting the crucial lineout steal when England were pressing after the neck roll on Curry put an end to Scotland's most promising multi-phase attack. I've been watching Bradbury at Edinburgh home games but he wasn't physically impactful enough and will need to start stronger if he gets chosen to replace Ritchie.

It really is astonishing how little England managed to do with the ball, it seemed like the end game was just pinning Scotland back in their 22 which was managed well in the first 65 minutes but they only bothered to go through multiple phases when within 10-15 metres of the tryline. Although Scotland don't have a mental hoodoo with Eddie Jones' coached England the way they do with Wales in Cardiff it was an outstanding effort. Ireland showed how their tight 5 dominance really made it easy for their backs and never let Wales in the game. The Welsh will undoubtedly be better and we've all seen numerous false dawns. Still can't wait for the showdown in Cardiff on Saturday.

I would say there is a slightly skewed narrative of the game developing in some aspects. While England absolutely dominated territory (around 40:60), possession was much more even (46:54 / 15.34m:18.08m) and time in the opposition 22 was very low for both teams (54s:2m13s). The main thing for me was that the game was largely played either side of half way and predominantly (regardless of who had the ball) in Scotland's half (57% of our possession was in our own half).

The biggest differential that I can see is we scored 3.4 points for every 22 visit, whereas England scored just 1.2. That certainly speaks to our attack being utterly ruthless. I'd love to see a stat like expected goals in football to see if our attack was operating at a statistically unsustainable level.

Watched it in a pub surrounded by Wales fans, they made a Hell of a lot more noise for our game than they did for their own 😂
I was stuck in Covid jail! I’m out today though and the lateral flow was finally negative. Looking forward to Parc Eirias on Friday 🙂
Welcome back to the outside world, I’ve somehow avoided Covid jail while all around me have done time in it recently, I shall be walking around in a bubble between now and my trip up for the France game 😊

Am looking forward to Friday as well, you want to meet at Parc Eirias or is a pint or two in the Bay before kickoff an idea ?

My plan is to get the 18:20 train from Pen. Irritatingly not direct and have to change in Junction, but should be there by about 18:45. Which should give us time for a jar. I will have my son with me, but he’s 17.5 and looks older, so it shouldn’t be an issue.
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.

Was poorly worded on my part, should have been no clear and obvious no.2. There is noone else with recent game time at the position or performing at international level in that position. We have 7 guys above who probably aren't full backs in the first instance (or second), a guy who hasn't played there for a while and focusing on 10 and and a kid breaking though.

If it was any random November international then some of those named would do a job, but in the build up to the RWC there is no clear and obvious no.2.and rather than playing tombola with the jerseys it would make sense this summer to bed someone in as the back up It will probably be Kinghorn but he is now apparently our second best 10 and it is well over half a year since he last started a game (IIRC) there and probably won't for club as he is clearly Edinburghs best 10 based on recent evidence.

This summer is a good opportunity for the no.2 to get some gametime whoever he is.

Get someone to adopt Boffelli, three years and job's a good un.

Seriously, I see no problem with Kinghorn shifting between 10 and 15, the All Blacks don't get too upset about players playing both.

Jack Blain looked promising at 15, he hasn't hit previous form so far this season, but he's still young

Whilst I'm here, I was catching up with the game today, I hadn't seen the full replay yet. There was something that I thought was bonkers at the time and it still seems that way. The Scottish pack was penalised for not being steady at a scrum on 5 minutes, this was a free kick.

On 55 mins the entire Scottish front row is replaced and at their first scrum they are penalised with a penalty for not being steady, the ref said this was escalated from a free kick because they had already been warned at that 5th minute scrum.

I don't think I've ever seen that carried over like that before, and especially with a completely new front row.

It does happen but it is always weird when a huge amount of time has passed between offences. Definitely feels like that law needs a tweak.

Was nice to see someone other than Kyle Sinckler doing this though!

I'm still testing negative and hoping I can go out for the Superbowl on Sunday
I'm feeling like absolute shit from Saturday but not testing positive for Covid. Apparently the bloke next to me who I spent all day with might have bronchitis though...

Are you going to the States for the Superbowl?!

I think it would be OK if the ref had warned the new front row but I guess it could fairly be argued Scotland should have made each other aware.

Watching it back Nel v Marler was a right good tussle.

Yeah, would absolutely be unfair on the front rows to not be aware of the current situation and that should be on the ref.

I was very worried about the subs because Will Stuart is shite, unfortunately. Really not sure what he's doing there.

Skinner at 6 makes sense, but....

Then again, it's Tuesday, how would they know?

They'll have trained on Monday.

They are often hit it miss though so wouldn't surprise me either way. Tuipulotu v Halaholo feels like playing into their hands.

Team will be picked on Monday I reckon, Scotland have to release non picked English based players on Tuesday night.

On another note Ben White was involved in our exiles program.

For anyone who watched the U20s, Leatherbarrow (the very impressive 8) has been recalled to Exeter with a view to being in their prem squad at the weekend.

Harrison is lined up to start at hooker so one of the Edinburgh hookers (presumably Cherry) will be released back, otherwise they will have only 1 senior hooker for the Leinster game.
