Ms MungoSpouse & I have been watching it for a longish while, i.e. when it was first shown on FTA TV in Straya, and via on-demand services more recently. We both think it's a hoot and we're both Strayan-born.

Anyone watching "This is Going to Hurt" on the BBC? The book was excellent and very very funny at times, but pretty harrowing at others. I found the first episode of the TV adaptation to reflect the book in terms of being a pretty tough watch (it's definitely not for the squeamish), but less of the humour - only one genuine laugh out loud moment. Not sure I'll continue with it - not because it's not very well done - it is, but because there might not be enough levity to offset the harrowing parts.

If anyone hasn't read the book, it's highly recommended (perhaps not for those who are around child-producing age though (it's about a doctor on obs & gynae) - leave it until you've got that all out of the way, then read it).

Adam Kay's other book (Twas the Nightshift before Christmas) is excellent too, and he is also a fine advocate for the NHS.

Any other views (especially from the medics of this parish)?

Not read the book but the MiL has and has similar views as you. I'm dubious about some of the content from what ive seen so far.

Also think he comes across as quite a bit of a dick at times. I realise I'm looking at this from a perspective 15 years on but I've seen similar attitudes from "mentors" over the last 8 years and never been impressed. And it's not as if my threshold to harsh leadership/mentorship is low.

Not read the book but the MiL has and has similar views as you. I'm dubious about some of the content from what ive seen so far.

Yeah, he definitely comes across as a dick, though given the way the consultant treats him, it's probably not a surprise. In the book, he doesn't come across as a dick, though that's probably because it's his diary.

First two episode out. This is a great show so far. Adam Scott from Parks and Rec, John Torturro, Christopher Walken and Patricia Arquette.

A clever, dystopic comedy drama.

I'm really enjoying ITV's Ipcress File. Its retro styling is great fun and pays homage to the original with Michael Caine. Cast includes the excellent Tom Hollander, Joe Cole (John Shelby from Peaky Blinders) and Lucy Boynton. If you like cold war thriller then I recommend this highly.

Just happened to stumble upon Mr Inbetween buried deep in the Disney plus archives. Snaffled all 3 seasons in a few days - hugely enjoyable. Pretty rare to find something of this genre with such top drawer performances and direction…

Watched Vikings Valhalla, really enjoyed it, the latest series of The Last Kingdom just dropped, looking forwards to that too.

Enjoying LK much more than VV. I gave up on Vikings though prior to the final season.

Currently watching the final episode of "The Line". Documentary about the trial of a Navy SEAL accused of murder. Never really followed the case in depth at the time but whatever your opinion this is fucked up.

Worth watching, then? I have a lot of fondness for the mid-00s comic run and the involvement of Ethan Hawke was intriguing since he tends to make choices that are at the very least interesting to watch, but the series trailer didn't grab me. The less said about Oscar Isaac's 'cockney' accent the better...

Late to the party but have started watching The Witcher while I briefly subscribe to Netflix. A few epis into the first season and as a book reader / game player I think it captures the spirit of the world rather well, that cynical world weariness of Geralt's and a fantasy world that is rooted in a modern feeling realpolitik despite the pseudo-mediaeval setting. Jaskier aka Dandelion is pushed up to more of a main character and although not like I imagine him from books and game is a good comedic offset to the general brutality and seriousness. Oh, and there are tits, a lot of them.

Season 1 is a bit uneven but season 2 is excellent. Cavill is a lot of fun as Geralt. The fight scene in Blaviken still blows me away.

Even knowing the back-story from the books the jumping of timelines takes some getting used to.
