Did anyone read the IT article re Romanian workers being denied Social Welfare.
Has the union rep provided any explanation why the Polish Government has welshed on their own taxpayer's rights?
Has he given any story as to what his union are doing to resolve the situation with the Polish Authorities and or worker's agencies.
Or has he just shown his incompetence by complaining to Irish newspapers about Irish authorities?

So, these workers have declared themselves tax resident in Poland (and, I presume stick to the rules regarding tax residency). Now this is either legal, under Irish and EU law, or illegal. If it is illegal, the appropriate authorities, tax, employment and police, should take action. However I suspect it is not illegal, and the union reps are just whinging.

I don't see anything in the media about it ..... and am being told that it might be a teenage social media story that has grown legs?

My young fella heard about it yesterday according to him, but it's strange that it's not even in local media

Shots fired. Jarring for him to make the point though.
Glad to see that cunt Boylan called out for that.

We are getting to the ridiculous stage where living a comfortable life rules you out of having any part in running the country. A view that seems to be held by far too many in the electorate.

Everything lacks nuance these days. Online is disastrously bad and the media are a pox. Don't know how we find our way back internationally

I wouldn't quite go that far.

The bigger issue is just a shit media and poorly educated populace.

Funnily enough, she goes for that line when O’Broin is her husband and the SF housing “czar”. Where did he go to school and what skin colour is he?

She doesn’t seem to even know what identity politics is.

Poorly informed. Which is your media point.

Previous young generations weren't informed at all so largely stayed out of politics. Now with social media and a shit mainstream media they think they're making informed decisions when the reality is that their viewpoint is down to whatever echo chamber they fell in to.

Sinn Fein can only remain relevant for as long as they can perpetuate their phoney class warfare routine

If they can no longer convince their base that "it's somebody else's fault why I can't have everything for free" then they will slide into political oblivion

Getting into government in the south will be the worst thing that could ever happen to them, as with a simple flick of a switch they become accountable, with no 'themmuns' down here to blame

Which is funny because most of the most lefty voices in the Dáil are from comfortable backgrounds!

This is the problem with trying to play old school class warfare politics and also identity politics. It’s one of the issues when half the people you follow are old school Cornynista lefties and other half are all woke.

He’s from Cabinteely but surprise surprise couldn’t get elected in the old Ra ticket so ran instead somewhere in West Dublin.

Does he actually need a utility bill in his name from an address there or can he stay living in DLR?

Many years ago I worked on the continent for an Irish Agency paying Irish tax & insurance. I assumed then that what was happening was legal
and would assume it still is. I was there years before the single market
We knew that we could never use that country's welfare facilities, and knew that if we did require anything we would have to return.
Back then we were Irish workers employed by an Irish company. I've no idea why the Romanians are signing up with Polish agents.
After saying that, in the 80's Irish and English guys were signing up with Dutch agents to work in Germany.

I suspect the workers are working something like 4/5 month (whatever the tax codes of Ireland and Poland allow) stints in Ireland, and the rest in sister meat plants in Poland. I also suspect that, in terms of take home pay, each Irish stint pays for another room on the house they are building in Romania, and that the Polish earnings keep themselves and their family in Romania for the year. And that, on the whole, the workers are quite happy with the situation.

We were doing very well out of it. On paper we were earning the minimal amount for an Irish SW stamp, but were taking home twice as much again in "expenses". On top of that we were housed and fed. Were driven to work everyday in a limo. We covered the cost of an air ticket IR£280 over the period of 7 weeks , and if we didn't fly back we received the extra 40 quid a week. We were out most nights, but were still saving more than half the cash we were paid.

I was about to ask if the books are any good, but then remembered my vow to never start another unfinished sci-fi/fantasy series again, at the very least until Rothfuss gets his arse in gear and releases something.

Wow

Can't see the tallest towers getting through .... but I'm liking the density

The city centre needs more middle class/professional voters if it's going to get the governance it deserves ..... so loads of well situated new high end apartments can only be a good thing

Apparently the two women in Galway Bay could see the SAR helicopters in the distance the morning before they were rescued. Must be very tense knowing that they're looking for you, but unsure if they'll come to the right area.

They need to tidy up the east link area. We now have a fantastic cycle lane from Glasthule to Bayside but the part from Irishtown to Fairview is a disgrace. They have loads of space for a segregated bike lane by the cottages at Irishtown that look into the east link - why haven’t they put a cycle lane there. The east link bridge is also very narrow, and the road surfacing through Dublin port is disgraceful. There’s a few half arsed sections of cycle path in the port but they’re really just lines painted on a footpath by idiots, they don’t link up, they are pointless

They were very lucky. They should be charged the fee of the coastguard helicopter though. Going paddle boarding with no experience at 9pm with no dry bag?

Might have warranted a fee had the coastguard actually found them rather than flying over their heads while keeping their hours up.
They left Furbo at 8.00 and I don't really think that Inisheer was their destination, they were going for a paddle in the cove.
Accidents happen. Lets just be thankful that one man and his son knew what they were doing.

The girls only went out paddle boarding at 9pm so by the time the coast guard was called it would have been dark. From the comfort of your computer it’s easy to slag off a professional helicopter crew who risk their own safety to help these people

Pull your fucking neck in. It's you that seems to have a problem sending rescue services out to do their jobs.
I know many of the guys and girls on both the Galway and Kilronan boats and I can tell you that they certainly have no problem going out in any weather at anytime of the day to do what they volunteer for.

And it was 8.00 pm....https://www.independent.ie/irish-news/n ... 47345.html

Not sure what point you were making. The girls said it was dark when the helicopter flew over. Hard spot, no?

And as far as I've read, it was 9pm before the coastguard was called.
