That's one of the "the answer is no" thread.
Even if he was, he would last about 10 mins before he breaks again.Uncle fester wrote: ↑Wed Mar 02, 2022 6:43 pmThat's one of the "the answer is no" thread.

So will Eddie pick him to start, or come in for the last 20 minutes ?, & then have to parachute in Ford to OH, & ruin Smith at Center for the last 10.ASMO wrote: ↑Wed Mar 02, 2022 7:46 pmEven if he was, he would last about 10 mins before he breaks again.

No one knows, but he's one of the select few Eddie's yanked early in a test and of those only Isiekwe, who was 20 at the time it happened to him, have been able to find a way back into the wee cunt's good graces.
Healy and Herring to start, with Killer and Sheenan off the bench would seem like the sensible/conservative approach.
I missed the Ulster game on Friday, how did Hendy play? Is Ryan fully fit again?
Ian Madigan for Ireland.
I would be incredibly surprised if Herring started. Healy more likely but I'd like to see Kilcoyne start.
No idea about the second rows. With Conan off form, I'd be interested in seeing all three start of they were fit with Doris at 8.
Herring is a relatively safe pair of hands to start with Sheenan on at 50mins to add a bit of impact. I haven't seen enough of the later in big games to make a fair call on whether or not he should start, although he has been decent coming of the bench so far in the 6N.
Agree on Hendy, Ryan and Beirne all starting (if Hendy and Ryan are fit) as it would add a bit of timber to our pack, although can also see PoM starting at 6 with Doris shifting to 8.
The call at 9 should be interesting. Hopefully JGP gets the nod and plays considerably better than he did in Paris.

Healy and Sheehan will start. Kilcoyne is the definition of an impact player. Herring is a decent pro but Sheehan could really be special. Let's invest the time in him now.
Incidentally, Healy could struggle to make the world cup. Seems to be slowly but surely winding down. Need somebody to break through and take his spot on merit.

No surprise but Sexton confirming he's gone after the RWC.

I just hope he makes it that long. 13 Ireland games ahead of the tournament plus a few warmup games in all likelihood. He'll probably line out for Leinster's European games and a token number of URC league matches, and then the playoffs both years.
I'd bring him on tour to NZ this summer but only start him the 1st game (2 if we win the 1st test obviously), and then give him the AIs off to let one of the backups stake a claim then bring him back full throttle for next year's 6N.

So Conan was injured for a week which in Irish terms means he's now 'off form'.
His form can't be that bad that we'd consider starting POM (in whatever position).
We should have either Doris or Beirne at 6 anyway.
Sheehan to start - he's already better than Herring, no need for the traditional 5 year wait before we trust a new player to stake his place.
Porter out is a serious problem. Kilcoyne is next best up, but as someone else said, he's generally played better as a sub.
But Healy seems to be slowing down fast at this stage, and the England match isn't a comfortable one to see that proven.

Do you watch any rugby at all? Conan has been bang average this year.salanya wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 6:41 pm So Conan was injured for a week which in Irish terms means he's now 'off form'.

And POM has been pretty good this year. I would be happy with doris at 8, VDF at 7 and wouldnt have a problem with POM starting this game. Or Beirne at 6 also, but of any of the backrows it should be conan missing out.
Conan who was number 8 for the Lions, looked good for Ireland in the autumn and played about 4 matches since? (it may be more, I'm exaggerating).
I'm not saying he's been in crazy impressive form in 2022, but he's not been that awful. Whilst POM was running through treacle on the wing against Italy - not exactly what you look for in a backrow in 2022.
Interesting that most backrowers have to be at the international top each week to be considered for selection, whereas POM just has to make the occassional big steal and he's playing great 'cause experience'.
POM was great and offered lots in combination with big carriers like SOB and Heaslip. But time has passed and he neither carries like a 6 or is quick enough for a 7 nowadays. The likes of Doris, Beirne and even a Coombes or a Prendergast offer much more.

Your first sentence says it all. Conan was great for the lions. He has not been so great since. POM was shit in that same period but he has been playing well since. If we are rewarding form then Conan shouldnt be in that backrow. Conan is overrated anyway in my opinion.
You're mad - POM has been playing well recently (as opposed to the beginning of the season when he was utterly anonymous), but he's still nowhere near the standard. As good as he is in the lineout or in the poach, he's physically wanting in his tackling, rucking and carrying. Would much (much) rather have JOD or Coombes in ahead of him.Mr Tim Buktoo wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 7:44 pm Your first sentence says it all. Conan was great for the lions. If we expect to be physically dominant then he's a luxury we can afford - against England? You're mad!
Conan wasn't at his most influential against France (where he went off injured), but apart from that I'd love to hear about these bad performances of his!

Of the players available that will be in the 23 i mean. I would happily have coombes in there. Conan has been anonymous so far this six nations. Overrated.PornDog wrote: ↑Wed Mar 09, 2022 2:01 pmYou're mad - POM has been playing well recently (as opposed to the beginning of the season when he was utterly anonymous), but he's still nowhere near the standard. If you were arguing for Coombes, or for Beirne in at 6, your argument might carry a bit better*, but you're arguing that POM should replace Conan.....Mr Tim Buktoo wrote: ↑Wed Mar 09, 2022 2:39 pmOf the players available that will be in the 23 i mean. I did say id be happy with beirne there also in the previous post. There is no chance coombes is getting in there so no point arguing for him to start. I wish he was starting but he wont be.PornDog wrote: ↑Wed Mar 09, 2022 2:48 pmIf you were arguing for Coombes, or for Beirne in at 6, your argument might carry a bit better*, but you're arguing that POM should replace Conan.....Mr Tim Buktoo wrote: ↑Wed Mar 09, 2022 2:39 pmOf the players available that will be in the 23 i mean. He was deservedly the Lions 8 and excellent in the autumn. He's not overrated, just either carrying a niggle or off form. Agree with the rest of your post.Mr Tim Buktoo wrote: ↑Wed Mar 09, 2022 2:39 pmOf the players available that will be in the 23 i mean. I would happily have coombes in there. We're favourites and Eddie is love bombing us for a game in Twickenham.
Uneasy feeling about this one.

We need to become comfortable with the favourite's tag. Removing the usual insecurity intrinsic with Irish rugby supporters, we really should be winning this game. England have not exactly been setting the world on fire.Uncle fester wrote: ↑Thu Mar 10, 2022 7:36 am We're favourites and Eddie is love bombing us for a game in Twickenham.

I for one, admire England's willingness to embrace the role of plucky underdogs. I fear when they run out on Saturday, wearing blue and yellow warpaint and Eddie Jones strides to his seat wearing a green fatigues t-shirt and mascara'd up to look haggard, the interweb will explode in sympathy.
Will we be disciplined, dare I say, fascist enough, to overcome the raw emotion?

Ah fuck sake
Dan Leavy: Ireland & Leinster flanker retires at 27 because of injury
Ireland and Leinster flanker Dan Leavy has been forced to retire because of a long-standing knee problem.
The 27-year-old has been battling with the injury sustained against Ulster two years ago and has now been advised by specialists to hang up his boots.
Leavy won 11 caps for Ireland and made 79 appearances for Leinster.
"I have done everything I can to come back from the knee injury but unfortunately I can't do any more or ask any more of my body," he said

The former England prop, who is currently forwards coach with the Irish province, is promoted to the top post on a two-year deal.
"I am hugely honoured to be taking over the role of head coach for a club of this calibre," said the 50-year-old.
"It is one that means so much to me and my family. I get to work with an incredible group of staff and players."

Maybe seen what another English prop is doing as head coach at Ulster and thought why not? Dan McFarland is doing a great job.
