It's a law that makes sense in rugby league and doesn't in Union.
Nah. If a team wants to commit everybody on the "tackle line" and leave the backfield unmarked, they are liable to get punished. Simples.
This is silly. A large number of them come from turnover ball, and why on earth are we rewarding a lucky bounce with possession on top of the 60m+ territory gain? It's ridiculous.

Both of them today weren't because England had everyone up in the tackle line
I agree - it just encourages more kicking.

Point of order - the margin was closer to zero than it was to your predicted 50

Had to watch on recording due to family insistence o dinner duties.

When are players ever going to learn. Should penalise all tackles above tits with auto penalty. Stop going for the DOMINANT tackle.
England good in defence but no pace in back 3. Steward is fantastic in air but why can’t we get an Olympic sprint coach to tell players how to go a bit faster. His kicks at the end were rubbish and lost us momentum.
England scrum magnificent, maybe Nowell is a forward.

Furlong should have been carded around 50 mins. Would have been very interesting then.
Six penalties out of 10 scrums wasn’t it?
Time for a massive rethink around scrums they are just penalty machines and are fucking dull. Not a single scrum completed without infringement until half way through second half - I am over them.

Ahh you would rarely see a scrum dominant at this level and the team were rightly rewarded for it. We didn't expect that Ireland front row to be so shite despite being short two first choice.
Why does being pushed backwards = penalty you don't get a penalty for knocking someone back in a tackle...

They take too long and invariably there is some technical bollox that causes either a penalty or a reset.

That is some bullshit. Ref fully collides with English tacklers by being in the way. Waves play on and Ireland get to the line.

It doesn't. If you simply go backwards, refs don't blow up as no offence has been committed. If you sheer off, break binds, stand up, go to floor or in any other way bottle out of the scrum contest it's a penalty.

Teams might want to put some training into retreating a scrum legally. In the various videos teams drop of training, including scrum, I've never seen it.

I wasn't going to mention that one. Will stop giving the ref a hard time now though.

Surprised Ireland took HT with that pen. If they'd played they'd have had a lineout in our half. Pretty conservative option.

The sort of mixed bag this group of U20s have been delivering all tournament so far.

He's had a couple of those. Don't know if it's him not finding the right words for what he means or if he's legitimately getting laws wrong.

Well I thought it was a ballsy effort by England considering they were not favourites and they were down to 14. And were so close until the final 10 mins.

Just finished watching the 2nd half, well done to England, gutsy stuff but the emotional energy expended got them in the end.

Enjoyed the retro 90’s Ireland performance for a while but they were never realistically going to lose that. Absolute head scratcher why the scrum was so dominated.

We talked about Smiths defence last week but at big boy level he’s the notch under speed bump, going to be very targeted

It's nice that Slick is so concerned for Smith at international level, but given he's played against most of the major nations with one poor performance in defence, I don't think any England fans are too worried. No more than we were with Ford at 10.
