Poll lets you vote twice... top 2 and bottom 2 questions separate polls, if you want to play.

Typical Hollywood fakeosity taken too far?

Rock was being a dick and the whole 'roasting' people in public for a laugh is fucked up?

Smith lost it and the tough guy alpha dog yelling from his seat was pathetic?

I didn't know his wife actually cheated on him, is that real and does it matter or just add pathetic to the spectacle's demeaning factors?

People who care enough to post about not caring on a forum that hosts discussions on Formula 1 and the conflict in Ukraine that attract a sizeable percentage of posters’ opinions might be pissing in the wind.

I think Rock anticipated a kind of stage slap, but wasn't expecting that. THe joke was out of order and he was a dick for it.

Smith was an utter dick. Responding to an out of order joke with violence isn't the actions of a well adjusted dignified man, which is what he tries to portray himself as. If he had taken a higher road, and he and his wife had just got up and left, he would have made sure Rock is never invited to do anything like this again - because the recipient of one of the main awards would have left because of the host. That would have been dignified and would have resulted in a far bigger effect. It's not as if he didn't initially laugh and then change his reaction when he saw how Jada took it.

Dickhead behaviour from both - and the white nationalists will put a race overlay on it about black men and violence, sure as anything.

I care. I care like someone tasked by Vishnu to care like no-one has ever cared before. And what I care about is seppos hurting each other.

That is to be encouraged at all costs. But in future, firearms or edged weapons please.

Not, ffs, gurly slaps.

It served to remind me that the Oscars have happened and it gave me a warm fuzzy feeling that they're so increasingly irrelevant. The sooner these opulent, self-congratulatory parties for the already wealthy disappear the better.

This.

The other question I have is, if it wasn't a 57 year old 5ft 8 smaller man who made the comment would he have done the same? He then had the embarrassment of Rock shaking it off fairly quickly.

Rebel Wilson cracked a cringey joke at the BAFTA's about Jada Smith which Will Smith did not like.

Plus Smith and Rock have some previous.

Agreed. Why we need to further indulge the already pampered is a bit beyond me, these ceremonies exist purely as part of the typical smoke-and-mirror razzmatazz Hollywood is built on.

The joke was a reference to G.I. Jane. I can see how it could be mistaken for one referring to her hair falling out, but I think it was just due to her hair being shaved bald due to the reference.

This bit, it seems a bit staged on Smith's part, given he was happily laughing at it. Apparently Rebel Wilson also made a joke at her expense in a prior awards show.

Though it'sba bit of a shift to jump to and consider the white nationalist bit. Who cares about them here? None of the reaction appears to and racists will always think racist things.

AFTER getting in one little fight, Will Smith’s mum got scared and moved him to his auntie and uncle in Bel-Air, it has been confirmed.

Rock's joke missed the mark by a long way. It was almost like someone backstage was like 'Yeah.....Jada and Will are cool - they'll love it - go for it'! I have listened to Rock talk about his comedy before - and he is usually a lot cleverer than this. I mean he gets mentioned in the same sentence as Pryor and Murphy.....whether you believe that or not - it is a dialogue to be had.

Smith's reaction was pretty primal - but oh so wrong. Stepping up and slapping a comedian after a bad joke - that is douchery of the highest order. Again - of what I have seen from Smith - this is not the kind of behaviour you'd expect from him.

Even more unsavoury is the levelling of Smith's imposed 'cuckory' as a reason for his outburst - and also the levelling of 'manipulation' at JPS. Typical 'their lifestyle doesn't match my lifestyle so therefore they are wrong and deserve whatever comes their way'.

Just a very weird and sad situation that will be exploited by scummy people around the world.

That would have been a better reaction from Rock - something along the lines of 'man, that was some good acting in Ali, cos he sure don't have Ali's right cross'.

Smith is an utter Cunt, shit actor with a pile of shit films to his name.
To do that and then shout out obscenities for the front of the stage was like watching a young drug dealer, he ruined what should have been the night of their lives.
That fucking sobbing speech about how hard it is, fucking really.
He should be in jail, I hope people stay away from his film.
As for rock anyone will be well aware of his style, if you watch one of his shows he says I love black people but hate niggers, nobody walked out they could see what the comment was based around.
We should be fucking grown up enough to take the comedy, it was all about poor will Smith.
Are we getting to the stage where oversensitive pricks like Smith get their way and comedy dies, every joke is at the expense of someone or something.

A little history on the heckling.

In 2016 Rock was also hosting the Oscars. That year, Pinkett Smith said she was boycotting the ceremony because of an all-white acting nominees list.

In his monologue, Rock said: “Jada said she’s not coming. I was like, ‘Isn’t she on a TV show?’ Jada’s gonna boycott the Oscars? Jada boycotting the Oscars is like me boycotting Rihanna’s panties. I wasn’t invited!”

Rock then went on to poke fun at Will Smith’s lack of a nomination for his role in the film Concussion.

“Will was not nominated for Concussion. I get it. You get mad. It’s not fair that Will was this good and didn’t get nominated. You’re right,” he said. “It’s also not fair that Will was paid $20 million for Wild Wild West.”

Two years later, in 2018, Will Smith posted a photo of his ex-wife Sheree Zampino and their son Trey with the caption, “Happy Bday, @shereezampino. #BestBabyMamaEver! :-) I Love You, Ree-Ree.”

Rock’s response, “Wow. You have a very understanding wife”, went viral.

This part is quite funny tbf “ Jada boycotting the Oscars is like me boycotting Rihanna’s panties. I wasn’t invited!”

Last year the Oscars had some terrible viewing figures and almost no coverage, this year they've managed to peak some interest and without the use of Janet Jackson's nipple as some others have relied on

Viewing figured are 50% up this year, which means the 2022 Oscars are only the second lowest on the list.

I've a black friend whose take was that Smith would never have dared slap a white comedian in the face for telling the same joke. To say he is pissed off is an understatement, he was saying after "all the progress we have made he just gave it all back".

Will Smith has always struck me as a pretty vapid person, I've never cared for his acting or rapping and it always grated that he was cast as Ali. Rock has always had more substance in his work and his being.

Another aspect of this is that every comedian in the US (and further afield) has now been put in a position that an audience member might feel entitled to attack them if they feel slighted by a joke.

That’s entirely on WillSmith.

I’m pleased to see that Smith may be stripped of his Oscar. Because the Academy cannot be seen to condone violence.

It’s important that the American film industry’s premier organisation takes a firm stand. After all, Hollywood has never glorified or condoned violence, least of all in the pursuit of money.

In America? Where there are white nationalists who endlessly fall back on arguments about black on black violence? You don’t see anyone doing it? You might not see it as justified (and it’s not) but that doesn’t mean it’s not going to happen. For some people, any reason to criticise famous black men and degrade them through cliche and generalisation is always going to be taken.

This was the jist of my friends argument, Smith is projecting self hatred and having to deal with the expectation of defending his wife's honour and his manhood against another black man.

I can't say with any certainty that he is right but he's almost 70 and has proven to be incredibly insightful on this type of stuff.

A quick peek on Twitter “Will smith black” doesn’t seem to yield results from a load of white nationalists.

The closest I have seen of that, is the questionable post above from Clive.
