They were at Northlands years before the merger. The main school of Northwood is situated on the original grounds of the Northlands School. The main field at Northwood is called the Robin Smith field. Northwood has combined the heritages of the two schools. Robin Smith scored more than a few centuries as a schoolboy on that field.

No worries, I was in full Andy Capstagno, Bill Mclaren, Oom PB mode spouting off about "What school they went to." I spent two years at Beachwood before the schools merged. I played cricket with Shaun's older brother Gavin at school. Ex-Rhodesian and South African cricketer Colin Bland was our groundsman. His son played in our first team. He drilled us in the famous one stump fielding practice.

The Proteas win against Bangladesh's loss not universally appreciated.
I think there were something like 11 decisions reviewed and overturned, which is a new low.
Both Adrian Holdstock and Marais Erasmus are experienced and competent umpires, so it's difficult to understand why they got so many decisions wrong.

First day of the Championship season and another triumph of mediocrity on the whole. Athers' son Josh de Caires looked pretty fluent for 80 on a good pitch at Lord's, Somerset have been and Gloucester are in the process of being skittled and meanwhile Cook remains the best bat in the country.

I would have loved to have got down to Kingsmead, but I had a deadline, plus it's two and a half hours from Nottingham Road.

Going nicely. Have the Proteas ever opened the batting with two lefties before? I mean prior to these two.

Bavuma has been so consistent. Averaging 50 over the last 10 tests.
His dismissal was weird.FalseBayFC wrote: ↑Fri Apr 08, 2022 2:14 pm Bavuma has been so consistent. Averaging 50 over the last 10 tests.
Ball hits the palms, bounced into the ground and claimed on the rebound. Not out for mine, but I suppose there would have been a riot had it be given not out.
Nevermind.

The umpiring has been a bit shoddy so far. But I don't believe the catcher had control of the ball there before it hit the deck.Rinkals wrote: ↑Fri Apr 08, 2022 4:00 pmHis dismissal was weird.FalseBayFC wrote: ↑Fri Apr 08, 2022 2:14 pm Bavuma has been so consistent. No, it looked dodgy AF to me but we can't really complain.FalseBayFC wrote: ↑Fri Apr 08, 2022 5:57 pmThe umpiring has been a bit shoddy so far. 278 for 5 isn't a bad score, but we aren't playing one of the top sides here. Hoping to get around 400.
Mind you, Mulder and Verreynne don't seem to be setting the scoreboard light.
Cricinfo seem to think that 400 is out of the question, but it's only 122 away and we do have 5 wickets left.
Verreynne on strike to Khaled.
Verreynne stuck on the back leg, Bangladesh go upstairs.
Ball tracking says it's high and going down leg, otherwise a good shout. Bangladesh down to 1 review.

Much better. A home test series to Bangladesh should be easy stuff for us. This is good for us to have a new generation of players being introduced against opposition like this.

With Maharaj, Jansen and Rabada as bottom order batsmen I don't think we need Mulder in as an all-rounder. I don't think he's good enough as a bowler or batter to merit selection when all our guns are back.

Maharaj goes to a quick fire 50 with a six
378/6 looks much better.

I've been a little impatient at the respect we've shown the Bangladeshi bowlers. Not that they aren't a decent bowling attack, but they are not in the top tier.
But, you're right: we are quite an inexperienced side.
Maharaj has certainly come out firing, going to his fifty with a six off 50 balls.

Nobody stands out. If we can sort out our top order then we don't really need an all rounder. But if we went with Rickelton as keeper batsman, he is good enough to bat top 6, we could accommodate an allrounder and have Maharaj, Jansen and Rabada rounding out the lower order. Mulder would be handy in a lineup like that.

I feel his bowling is massively underrated. I remember the 1st test against SL in December 2020 he made things happen when the Lankans were cruising. He is a bloody good slip catcher as wellFalseBayFC wrote: ↑Sat Apr 09, 2022 10:16 amNobody stands out. If we can sort out our top order then we don't really need an all rounder. I was listening to what Pollock and Neil McKenzie were talking about Mulder and were saying that he's only 24, but that he's a batting alrounder in the mould of Kallis.FalseBayFC wrote: ↑Sat Apr 09, 2022 10:16 amNobody stands out. If that's true, and some of his strokeplay seems to suggest that it is, then it's probably worth persisting with him.
I just mentioned the Cape Cobras to get the Kapies riled.

He's still only 24 and hasn't ever fluffed it completely. He has 5 FC centuries to his name already. I guess I'm being a little unfair in expecting him to be at Kallis/Vern/Klusener levels yet. His bowling reminds me a little bit of Hansie or Steve Waugh. Upper 120s and wobbly. That's handy to have as a fifth bowler.Big Nipper wrote: ↑Sat Apr 09, 2022 10:23 amI feel his bowling is massively underrated.
