I was just trying to be clever and inject a bit of semantics into it.average joe wrote: Fri Mar 25, 2022 7:26 am I know, but saying they are invasives when most South Africans (of my age and older at least) grew up knowing the local species as "Acacias" is wrong. So no oom was not right when he said "Acacias" are not indigenous. Because many people still refer to the Senegalia and Vachellia as "Acacias"

They have more Acacia species than we do and asserted their botanical hegemony on us by insisting we find another name for our genus.assfly wrote: Fri Mar 25, 2022 7:22 am Such a shame to see South African xenophobia extending to plants.

Same can be said for flamboyant. Not indigenous, but they are basically permanent residents now.

Yes yes, but when me and pielkop Koosie Koekemoer go to the bottlestore to get the nuwejaars jol supplies I don't tell him "gryp jy die sparkilende wit wyn en ek sal die goedkoop skots gemaakde spirits en soet brein wyn kry nie" I tell him " gryp jy die champagne en ek sal die whiskey en sherry kry" In a similar vain the average South African don't talk about Senegalia and Vachellia when Acacia is just so much easier to say and spell.FalseBayFC wrote: Fri Mar 25, 2022 7:36 amI was just trying to be clever and inject a bit of semantics into it.average joe wrote: Fri Mar 25, 2022 7:26 am I know, but saying they are invasives when most South Africans (of my age and older at least) grew up knowing the local species as "Acacias" is wrong. It reminds me of a that joke where I guy happens on an accident where a pedestrian was hit by a car and phones the ambulance services. When they ask him were he's at he replies Eucalyptus street so the operator asks him to spell it. After a long pause he replies that he'll drag him to Pine street and phone back.

Today I'm doing Shashlik. Lamb sosaties popular in Ukraine, Russia and most of the ex USSR. The meat is cut into much bigger cubes than we do for our sosaties. When I lived in Poland we had several holidays in the Ukrainian Carpathians. We would end the days walking and climbing with Shashlik, Banosh( dryish pap) and Horilka which is the local flavoured vodka. So a Ukraine theme braai today.

I marinaded with mint, rosemary, garlic and wine. Only for a couple of hours. I find long marinades on lamb spoil the meat a bit.Chilli wrote: Fri Apr 01, 2022 1:17 pmWhat do you put on the lamb ?FalseBayFC wrote: Fri Apr 01, 2022 9:48 am Today I'm doing Shashlik. Will miss both games tomorrow, on the road back from CT Airport. Will braai on Sunday steaks it is.
So
The plan is to braai the whole afternoon.
Boerewors and flavored pork sausage on rolls for the Stormers victory over the Bulls.
Lamb marinated in red wine and garlic & beef in BBQ sosaties for the Lions victory over the $harks.
Happy Days!

T-Bone steak for me and big black mushrooms for the vegans. Fire going in the binnebraai area. South Easter is howling rather unpleasantly.
