Edit: it is far more puerile than tat

Most likely.

A friend of mine cycled all the way to Singapore from Amsterdam over 2 years.

Reckoned Iran was the best place with the friendliest people. I'd love to go one day

Certainly dig the food, however, the lack of alcohol would ensure it was a short trip!

While they didn’t go to Iran, 15 years back two of my brothers went to Syria. Said they were the most friendly people they’d ever been amongst. There’s something to be said about those with very little.

Easily the friendliest country I have visited, can't recommend it enough. Surprisingly, and disappointingly, the food was shite. It's one of my top 2 cuisines but the restaurants just served pretty much the same thing everywhere, home cooked was brilliant as you would hope.

It's fairly difficult to get booze unless you hang out with students, but even then drugs are used more than booze, particularly MDMA. You soon get in to the tea drinking vibe though.

Best bit is going to the incredible mosques and historic sites with no one else there.

Saw that on Reddit the other day, it's pretty close to accurate.

You won't get the Gaeltacht v Ghaltacht thing unless you're a Gaelic speaker. Basically Ghaltacht are foreign language speakers.

What's with having significantly more diversity in the North Island? Greater population/more accomodating geography for more people to live in?

Maori didn't settle the South Island until much later.

Some huge assumptions in there (100% registration and turnout in big counties), but interesting nonetheless. The 27.8% of votes can be beaten though.

Winning the presidency with just 22% of the popular vote:

Some interesting maps about America... haven't checked sources, so keep that in mind.

Image
In the hundred years between 1820 and 1930 more than 6 million germans and 4.5 million Irish made the long journey by boat from Europe to the New World. That makes up almost 10% of the entire population of America in 1930.

Watching yet another Bond ski session and it's struck me that he's never been to Canada (though I think the cold opening to The Spy Who Loved Me was filmed in our Arctic?) ... and not Australia nor New Zealand according to this map.

Image

If 2012 includes Skyfall, Spectre takes Cmdr. Bond to Mexico, Italy, Austria, Morocco, and back to London.

Surprised he hasn't been to South Africa. Haven't watched the Bond movies in forever, but I have this vague memory of something related to diamonds and either South Africa, or Namibia or Botswana. Maybe Diamonds are Forever or Moonraker. Might be a bit of Mandela effect on my part.

Ahh, that'd make a good trivia question (Bond movie locations where Bond doesn't appear)! I forgot about that and had to check. South Africa is definitely in Diamonds Are Forever, but Bond isn't there. It's Mssrs Wynt and Kidd, and then Bond starts his investigation in Amsterdam.

Ah okay then. That makes sense.

As a kid I always used to get quite a kick out of South Africa featuring in Hollywood movies, even if was a corny mercenary henchman or diplomat like in Lethal Weapon 2, but especially if there was a scene or whole movie that featured SA which is why I remembered something.

In darker blue, the states that are further north or have bits further north than Canada's southernmost point, Pelee Island.

Elsewhere, saw a basic map of the 101st's trip across Europe and wondered if there was one for The Big Red One ... turns out there are a lot of these for Yank divisions in WW2!
