I will be moving the site over to some newer higher spec servers in the next week, expect about an hour downtime one morning this week while this takes place.

Really sorry, had some corruption on the SQL during the move (that's the last time i let OS near anything with a wire in it) had to restore to a backed up copy.

It is significantly quicker with regards pages with multiple Twitter posts embedded in it. My phone safari browser was really struggling with those. Much improved now.

Same with my 3-4 yo iPad, I had to put a poster on ignore in the Ukraine thread, then click on each of his posts :lolno:

Hey ASMO, any reason why I can't access the site on my home connection any more? Works fine from mobile and other Virgin Media connections. I can't ping the server and traceroutes get to a pulsant.net hop and then nothing more, though that seems to be the case even from connections that can ping to it and browse the site.

Are you using a Vpn? I sometimes get issues with a few servers.

Nope, bog standard Virgin Media home broadband, no VPN in use.

I was in the middle of arguing with Toga so there's a non zero chance Asmo just lost patience and IP banned me

Nope no ban mate, did the router reboot work?

You can also try flushing your DNS on a windows machine

Navigate to the desktop. ...Right-click the Start button (the Windows logo in the lower-left).Choose Command Prompt (Admin). When asked whether to allow Command Prompt to make changes to your computer, select Yes. ...Type "ipconfig /flushdns" and press Enter.Type "ipconfig /registerdns" and press Enter.

No joy. It's not dns, resolves to the same ip on working and non working connections.

All my kit is getting turned off for a while tomorrow for some building electricity work so we'll see what happens when I get a new IP assigned from virgin (it takes a while so a simple reboot usually doesn't do it)

Hey Asmo - I think it is some sort of security thing going on. I was trying to post from my VPN just now and kept getting 403 errors (I can send you the text of the post if you're curious what was triggering it) and then it blocked me entirely. I think I had 403s back when I was arguing with Toga as well.

So the theory here is that something in my post is making the forum software go "nuh-uh" and then trying too many times results in an IP ban of sorts.

Anyway all I was trying to post was confirmation that VM didn't change my IP (boo, they don't do this any more) and that it's the very last hop not responding, so it's definitely something server-side and almost certainly security related.

Man, I've been having so many issues connecting/staying connected to the site for the past couple of days. Error messages and a 403 Access Denied message when I've been trying to post. Am currently connected using an Aussie IP address through a VPN, but even that seems to just be down to dumb luck. No idea what's going on... :problem:

Edit: yeah, having problems posting on this IP now too. Dang.

While your at it, ASMO...

none of my posts appearing here are ever as funny as I thought they were when I typed them. And some are downright stupid.

There must be a tech fix, shirley.

I find it's some of the most innocuous posts, but they're almost always posts with quotes in them.

That's because you kept trying to submit the post that was causing the 403, and getting IP banned automatically.

OK, I tried posting a reply quoting you (JM2K6) and got the 403 again, even using a vpn. :problem:

Frustrating...

Did you save the text of it? If so whack it up on pastebin or something and maybe we can work out what's triggering it

Yeah, nah...I'm not at all tech savvy so will save us both time by passing on that suggestion, thanks. Hopefully ASMO's able to sort it out some time.
