Yeah obviously. The Tories are done as a credible economic party after the winter.
Well all the candidates are pledging to continue the same moronic policies that helped get the the UK economy in this state.

They're all planning on continuing to ignore that there's a massive shortfall in workers, & that is going to stifle any attempts to increase growth.

They're all planning on continuing to break International law at every turn, & so to pick a trade war with the EU.

Not following politics around the world, perhaps it's not just the UK that is in this malaise and this is a worldwide phenomenon, that you either get a tyrannical strongman, a criminal or a nebbish. Only Zelenskyy and some others such as the Baltic States leaders atm seems to give any positive vibes and that may be more out of sympathy than anything, not knowing anything about their politics.
Maybe this is part of the problem. We are not at war (really) and so inspiring ought not to be at the top of the list of desirable attributes. I'd take competent, honest and boring as f**k any day. It also highlights how much we have drifted towards a dictatorship in the UK. The PM should be a titular, representative head of a party and not the party itself.
I agree, and when saying "inspiring" I really meant in the sense of a hope for "competent, honest and boring"! Someone with a true empathy for the daily concerns of the population as a whole. Sincerely hope we have seen the last of the populist narcissist showmen.

I heard him speak yesterday and he mentioned the Military and the army half a dozen times in as many minutes.
He is like a stuck record and a one trick pony from what I have heard. He didn'tmention the cost of living crisis once and when questioned on the issues he said that as a leader in the army he knew how to get things done.

I'm not sure ny what metric Mordaunt is least damaging. She's a Singapore on Thames zero regulation type, who is tight with the liars of the Global Warming Policy Foundation.

And almost always voted for a reduction in spending on welfare benefits, voted against free school meals.

None of them show up great on voting records

Well, we've pretty much proven all of the candidates are lying, self serving c**ts who should never be allowed a position of power over the masses with whom they have nothing in common nor any empathy with.

They're all so deep in the Cult, that those who still remember what reality is, they're terrified of actually speaking the truth, because it'll piss off the membership, & ERG, who are still waiting on their doorsteps every morning expecting their Brexit Unicorn to arrive

They're basically getting rid of one terrible person at a time until they only have two terrible people left. They they ask the other couple of hundred thousand awful people to decide which of the terrible two people should lead the implementation of their terrible plans.

Is that about right?

Pick your shit sandwich! Having an actual ERG member and hard Brexit zealot taking responsibility for what's coming looks like a positive, it'll make it easier for Labour/SNP/Lib Dems/Plaid/Greens to attack. It'll be a Mad Max policy platform whatever happens, Sunak/Mordaunt/Truss have all committed to a "Thatcherite" position (bearing no resemblance to real Thatcherism, isolating the UK from Europe then selling it to the US, and some combination of cutting taxes and/or increasing debt).

There's a strong chance whoever is selected the Tories will be doing this again and picking a new leader in 2023.

Pretty sickening for them to get to have free air time on TV for their ‘debates’ when coward Johnson hid from any probing at the last GE. We really do still live in a cap doffing, deference to our betters country.

He also didn't attend the conservative leadership debates. If people don't like that, they shouldn't have supported and voted for him.

A cunning plan Baldrick......... with one teensy, weensy problem. The Tories have already sold off everything: council houses, electricity, gas, water, coal (down the river), railways, postal service, buses, their souls (if any ever had one) which only leaves the NHS...........

I think that Kemi has a good chance of making the final 2 now. If Braverman and her supporters fall behind Kemi then she will be ahead of Truss. If she can get ahead of Truss and knock her out then she is probably the next home for Truss's supporters. I think Tugendhat's supporters will likely fall behind Sunak leaving Mordaunt squeezed out.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/uk-politics-62158367

For the second day running, equalities minister Kemi Badenoch has come fourth - moving from 40 to 49 votes.

A campaign source says: “We’re happy. This campaign came from a standing start. This time last week she hadn’t even decided if she was running.

"She and Suella [Braverman, who finished sixth and has been eliminated from the contest] have a lot of respect for each other, a lot of shared ideals. It’s now important Suella’s supporters back Kemi. She will shine in the TV debates.”

Responding to a suggestion from Team Truss that the right of the party should unite behind her, the source says: "Is she of the right? She voted remain, didn’t she?”

Any trade deal with the US will mean crushing much of the UK agri sector to get it over the line. It's possible to compete against US agri, but not without economy of scale which the UK doesn't have. Agri is one of the key parts of any trade deal the US makes. The UK doesn't look like it's getting a US trade deal any time soon, but you can bet these "Thatcherite" candidates would destroy any industry to get it over the line asap, regardless of any economic value it has.

The UK countryside generally can be sold to frackers (probably on the same low tax and low state ownership model as North Sea oil, which has proven to be inferior to Norway's high tax and state ownership model). The "Thatcherite" candidates will copy what Thatcher actually did here for a change.

If they can find anything more to sell they will.

Meanwhile back in reality.

2nd round compared to the 1st round.
Sunak +13.
Mordaunt +16.
Truss +14.
Badendoch +9.
Tugendhat -5.
Braverman -5.

This round there were 53 votes available (10 from Tugendhat and Braverman, 43 from Zahawi and Hunt). 9 from 53 isn't a good return. It's a three horse race and has been since before the first round of votes.

I agree. I corrected my maths in that post, because the source I was using was incorrect on the Truss votes, so Mordaunt has the most momentum behind her too.

What's actually going to happen, is Mordaunt will be close to getting the most votes in total if she maintains this momentum.

There really isn't much to look forward to is there? Best hope for outcome is that gobshites like Rees-Mogg are kicked into the long-grass of the back benches.

I wouldn't mind Tugendhat; the worst anyone seems to have found to say about him is that he bangs on about being a soldier a lot.

So predictably he doesn't have a prayer.

No (worked for 10 years in development) the selection of misfits, LARPers, autists and sociopaths that made up my team were far from normal.

The steady decline in quality of Tory leadership is amazing to watch. I am intrigued as to how they can continue the run of steadily worse leaders. They will have to elect Humphrey the cat or a piece of furniture to continue the trend after this lot have been voted out.
