Did I say she did? No. Her achievements on the track are fantastic, never mind that she has also completed a tough degree at the same time. Even getting accepted onto a vet degree course is incredibly difficult.

However, I'm still challenging your assertion that an engineering degree is somehow mickey mouse. 4 years, I worked every summer on industrial placements and had to work pretty bloody hard thank you, including most evenings & weekends when it got to the sharp end. For context, the literature review part for the research project in final year was longer than the entire 2-year dissertation that my flat-mate submitted, and I had a design project to do as well at the same time. I take it your degree wasn't in engineering if you think it's so easy? Ever wonder why the country is short of engineers?

My First Degree was in Medicine , then decided to athe a complete break after my SSC with the Light Infantry to take my Second degree in Forestry , with my MSC in Forestry Management at Trinty Oxford , all which were challenging in their own ways , all now , many many years ago, ,but none of them as all time consuming as my son's Vet Med degree

You're right, though it did come across that way. I think picking engineering degrees was a poor choice to illustrate your point though. Nevertheless, apologies.

Forestry didn't pay well , and with a young family to provide for , and being in Aberdeen , it was off to the rigs.

Engineering degrees are a bit like maths at school, you are given the formulas and you do hundreds/thousands of repetitions before sitting an exam which will use the same repetitions.

Arts and Humanities teach methods of discussing a premise and putting forward an argument.

Social Sciences use the methods of the first to achieve the second.

Some people are suited to one of those over the others, if you are lucky you choose correctly at age 18.

This is necessarily reductive.

Indeed , Apparently this has been Scotland's most successfully Commonwealth Games , outside of our Home Games

49 medals - 12 gold, 11 silver, and 26 bronze - with one day of competition left.

A Fantastic result. , lots of hard work, effort, along with the inevitable setbacks & injuries go into such a performance , most of us can only stand back and applaud

51 medals, just two short of the home games in Glasgow. Fantastic stuff.

Great to have the festival back!

Had a cracking night at the Fringe last night and saw a couple of great comedy shows. It's pretty cool, particularly in a UK context, that you can have such a massive event with folk from all over and have such a friendly atmosphere.

Mate was staying over on Saturday so we went up town to visit a few pop up bars and wander round. George Square was mobbed but bars in Teviot Row and behind McEwan Hall etc were quieter. Its nice to sit outside in nice warm weather with a few beers and agree that the friendly atmosphere is brilliant. As usual we had too many beers including some nice Weissbier in Bauhaus Bar on the way home. Might do it again ....

I'm confusing McLaren with Murphy Walker. Did McLaren not join Edinburgh last season on a short term deal when Gamble joined London Scottish? Perhaps he is going to move across permanently. He was aligned with Heriot's, so that would make more sense than traipsing back and forward between Edinburgh and Glasgow.

I built a fence at Sandhurst.

I had a run in with one or two of the uniformed lot whilst I was doing it. One of them with stripes pulled me up on protective gear.
I pointed out I didn't work for him so he could fuck the fuck off.

Not a happy bunny.

Another time I was passing a personnel carrier with the tractor, said tractor had a post rammer on the back. Long story short, the post rammer is made up of RSJs and the point of one of them was sticking out, I managed to rip a long cut along the side of the personnel carrier.
Another officer type didn't believe I lived in France at the time and was only there for that job.
I maintain that the driver of the military vehicle should have pulled over further, he had room to do so, I didn't.

Funnily enough No , I was pretty set on what I wanted to do , Although I was born in Glasgow , I drew up from the age of 4 in Belfast , and left with a heavy Belfast accent ( which I can still go into when pissed ) , The Army agreed that the background was 'useful' ( I was shit a medicine anyway - it was a win/win for everyone )

Haven't seen one. They got taken over by Viaplay during the summer so their cash requirements probably aren't quite as stark as previous years. I don't doubt there will be deals to be had at some point, but I doubt the discounts will be as deep nor the overall subscription cost as low as previous years.

Edit: they have a planned UK launch in October, so any discounts will probably tie in with that. They'll be called Viaplay Sports Network.

Fin Richardson, 24yo tighthead prop, has signed for Exeter. You may remember his dad (Guy) who was Scotland team manager and also team manager for a lions tour. He was born and brought up in Edinburgh, and moved to Exeter to complete a law degree. Another tighthead prop out of nowhere would be well received. Fingers crossed he gets some gametime.
