It is one of several drinking songs recorded by Milburn in the early 1950s that placed in the top ten of the Billboard R&B chart.[1] Other artists released popular recordings of the song, including John Lee Hooker in 1966 and George Thorogood in 1977.

McLaren visited Soweto, plagiarised the music, stiffed the musicians and made a fortune on the excuse that because South Africa was a Country under International sanctions, he was justified in swindling the poor and exploiting their poverty.
Paul Simon at least had the decency to credit Ladysmith Black Mambazo for their contributions.
