My mum lived here for a while, and then used to follow summers between hemispheres for many years. Previous to that my uncle over here for ages working as a mechanic in F1. Back in the Lotus / Jimmy Clarke days and then later for McLaren.

But they are all back in NZ. I did a longer than expected o’seas stint here. I jumped on a plane rather impulsively looking for electrical engineering consulting work (with a 4 year ancestral visa), a couple of years after my uni Eng degree in Canterbury.
I came with two mates... the plan was to tour Europe for a year and then return home... in the end I stayed and my two mates went off to Canada and married Canadians...

My parents stayed in NZ until I brought them both back 6 years ago as they could no longer look after themselves properly...

Canterbury Uni eh? I went to Otago...
I enjoyed the trips to Dunners. Regular participant of the Undie 500. It was in the 90’s I’d add.

I just found the event actually has a wiki entry.

I played for the Engineers rugby team.

Looks like it fell apart in to chaos with millennials in the noughties, just reading that.

What??? Are you telling us you a Pom masquerading as Kiwi to accept the plaudits of being an AB supporter? Mate I am beyond disappointed, here was I thinking you were a real person! :lolno: :lolno:
Correct. As a kid my dad said to me... you can support England like me... or the All Blacks, the national rugby team of the country we now live in... I chose the All Blacks cause I liked the way they played... even as a kid... BG Williams, Bruce Robertson, Sid Going... versus Bill Beaumont... it was easy... till Foster came along...

I was a baby when my parents emigrated to NZ... 6 months old... I only came back to the UK as an adult... I still have a strong Kiwi accent...
Lol ok I will just have to keep that in mind mate.
Mind you if I get to England next year or so and you were to buy me a beer if we in same area or something, I could probably forget all past sins

Was at uni in Dunedin 85 to 88. I regret not visiting Christchurch more. I had heard of the undie 500... But was too busy with the various Dunedin pub crawls. Plus I couldn't drive back then...

I was a candidate for uni... but there was no actual idea of what I'd be studying. My parents weren't really all that well equipped to be parents, really.

So I went into a trade and did a mechanical apprenticeship. Wish I'd gone to uni now... as a highly opinionated, impatient and kinda arrogant good bastard, I'd have made a decent semi drunk lawyer and probably would have crashed a couple of Jags into narrow bridges.

The beer in the UK is a revelation... not warm so much as just not chilled to the max. Real ales full of flavour that room temperature serving releases in a .... delightfully moreish way.

You don't have to near freeze the beer if it doesn't taste like piss.

Drinking in temperatures above 30C is a whole other ball game...

you try banging back pints at room temperature on a 40C day and see how long you last. It takes huge kahunas to throw down 5-6 pints in the heat and stroll off casually looking for an alligator to wrestle, trust me.

Lived in the middle East for over a decade, drinking in the heat is no different. Bad beer is bad beer.

Unfortunately I have yet to find an alcoholic beverage I like... I only drink to get drunk... which these days is rare. A Bailey's is ok .. but to get drunk it's usually vodka and coke. Beer just bloats me too much.

1969 was my 5th form year but I stayed on and completed the 7th form, less that I wanted to study and more that I did not have any idea of what sort of work I wanted to do. I guess I should be grateful to my parents for giving me the option of choosing to continue with school

But really cold beer is usually bad, regardless of the temperature outside (as I know to my cost from living in Texas).

The scientific solution to really cold beer is waiting a few minutes before supping it.

I didn’t realise he actually played Supe (after looking up his wiki entry).

Was at Canterbury Uni when Super 12 started.

But yes, I don’t remember Foster. But not for age.

I see a massage therapist on my weeks off to deal with an ongoing neck issue... last time I was there I mentioned my age while talking about work, and she was flabbergasted. Took me for ten years younger, apparently.

I mean, that's great and all... very flattering and a boost for the ego, but it doesn't change the fact that I'm sixtyfuckingone years old dammit.

Indeed McCaw is a diplomat. He would have had that question imposed on him. He never says anything bad.

McCaw was a ridiculously competitive winner.

Let’s face it
McCaw and Henry
v
Cane and Foster

It is such a huge gap, it’s embarrassing.

If ever a headline has put me off reading the article, it's this beauty by Mark Reason on the Stuff homepage:

"How the Queen can teach the All Blacks to heal us"

Nahhh...pass!

Winning the world cup doesn't make up for this mediocrity.

In saying that, he probably will win the world cup as though he's a poor coach... even more importantly, he's a lucky coach...

He's gotta go!
