Sorry, that's probably still a bit out of my way. I do the grounds at Marchmont St Giles church and that's about the furthest I venture into town. I can ask around because I know that it's getting almost impossible to find a reliable gardener in Edinburgh who isn't taking the piss, price wise.Slick wrote: Fri Oct 14, 2022 9:30 amIt's New Town, our ex neighbours. Many people don't know what happened yesterday.
To put it simply, Biden forced all Americans working in China to choose between two options: either resign immediately, or lose United States citizenship.
Then all the American executives and engineers of all semiconductor manufacturing companies in China resigned collectively on this day - China's semiconductor manufacturing was directly paralyzed overnight.
The lethality of one Biden sanction is greater than that of Trump's more than four years of performance sanctions combined.

It totally destroys their Semiconductor sector. Within days, they're have to shutdown equipment, as they won't have access to spares, & this equipment is maintained by the supplier FSE's, & the most senior ones are American, & because the US has had export controls for years on Semi tech, Chinese Nationals have very restricted access.

Well Intel actually sold their fab in China at the end of 2021, so they're lucky. The rumors are that they're going to do another round of layoffs, so potentially some Non-US nationals could be recruited to fill the gaps in expertise, but the likes of AMAT, or LAM, just don't give full access to anyone outside the company, & if you don't have access to spares, your buggered, whoever is doing the maintenance.

There was another big loss this week, in California, where Eastman, the idiot lawyer heavily involved in Jan 6th lost his attempts to twart the 6th Committees access to his emails.
He claimed Attorney-Client privledge, & the Feds said that the Crime-Fraud exception should mean that they were not so protected.
The Judge went thru hundreds of emails, & found that there were some covered, but crucially, there were a number where Eastman & the Shitgibbon were indeed conspiring in criminal conduct, & that the conduct was ongoing, so they should be released to the Feds.
The mails are discussion around the lies about election fraud in Georgia; & attempts to rig the number of fraudulent ballots, which quelle surprise, were the ~11,000 votes mentioned in a certain well known phone call
The kicker is Eastman saying that the SG didn't like the specific numbers of claimed fraudulent ballots being in the court doc; because they couldn't prove any of them. But in the end, they left the made up number in the statement, & the SG signed it; knowing well that they were made up.

As usual, mainstream politicians hitch their wagon to a populist star thinking they can control the situation, or cast it aside once they're done with it, and suddenly find that the monster has devoured their party and they are hostages to the extremists, and woe bedtide anyone, in the party or outside it, that stands in the way.

Good to see Biden come out to support Lula as tje new President, thus breaking the longstanding tradition of the US supporting right wing coups in South America.

The cause of the rant was the Judge in NY stopping his shell game, to transfer assets out of Shitgibbon Corp, to a new Shitgibbon Corp II. Now there's a Court appointed supervisor, (paid for by the Shitgibbon), who will have sight over all financial transactions

He knows he'll lose the case, & now he can't move the assets to escape the fines, & tax judgements.

The one thing that trump and the rest of the GQPer's have shown - is that the Democrats are completely incompetent when comes to being political operators.
They are always 2 steps behind. How they haven't managed to unite the independents and moderates against the scum that is the GQP is beyond me.

the Democrats and their supporters just haven't made the quantum leap into deranged mud flinging that their opponents are so deeply into. They still seem to hold to values. Full stop. There lies the contrast.

For someone who doesn't drink; I think that's the finest example of, "In vino, veritas", I've ever seen; In his case, it's probably more like; "In viterol, veritas"
If it's good; it's all down to me; if it's bad; it's someone else's fault !As votes rolled in from across the country Tuesday night, Donald Trump said something truly incredible when asked about how much credit or blame he should get for the election results.
“I think if they win, I should get all of the credit, and if they lose, I should not be blamed at all,” Trump told NewsNation, adding: “But it will probably be just the opposite.”
Yes, he really said that. And, no, he wasn’t kidding. He would, quite simply, like to have his cake and eat it, too.
In Trump’s world, all good things are the direct result of his action while all bad things are definitely someone else’s fault. He is forever telling himself a story in which he is the forever hero – fighting off the losers and the haters who are dragging him down.
