Well a lot of us spent the eighties fighting a Russian armed enemy. But yes our current government are absolute cucks for Russia.EnergiseR2 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 26, 2022 4:55 pm Those two pricks can ask my bollox. US seems to be arranging to send HAWK AA Missile Systems to Ukraine.
The US itself retired them before 2000, but they apparently kept them in storage, & they're more than capable of taking care of most of the Orc drone/missile threats, & they're cheap as chips.

Yep.
One of the advantages is that a good few Countries bought them, & after making 40k missiles, you'd hope there's a lot still knocking around; enough at least to ring Kyiv, & at critical infrastructure, along with shitloads of fake launchers, to confuse the fuck out of the Orcs, & have them waste their ordinance, & lives, on plywood, & polystyrene mockups !
Who are those two?

The pride of Ireland. They represent the true views of the bulk of the population of the Emerald Isle to Europe and the rest of the world. Not denying any of that. Was just saying that when it comes to soldiers that operate or program long distance weapons the culpability lies more with those identifying the targets than those pulling the triggers. More so than with boots on the ground troops in my opinion, since they can at least see their target up close some of the time. That was the main point of my argument.petej wrote: ↑Wed Oct 26, 2022 11:31 am It suits Russia's whataboutery for westerners to see things in black and white rather than shades of grey.
I think the fact that parts of US society and organisations are critical and allowed to be critical when civilians have been killed by US weapons is hugely important and to realise that in a society like Russia's this isn't allowed. It is the level of terrible that is different. Russia has been using banned weapons in Ukraine, intentionally committing genocide, threatening nuclear war and used chemical warfare in Syria.
Either it is a poor argument, or I didn't articulate it well enough because it went off the rails a bit.
I am not comparing the US and Russia FFS.EnergiseR2 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 26, 2022 5:06 pm You keep bringing the US into this. Russia is a mafia state from top to bottom. The US is not. Now it is becoming increasingly problematic the more the Russian mafia interferes but it continues to have some checks and balances. Comparing Russia and the US indicates you know little about Russia
I was merely stating the fact that missile programmers and drone pilots have something in common that makes their missions particularly unique and challenging. Since they cannot see their targets and have to have more trust in the legitimacy of their targets than normal - a prospect that is particularly challenging in Russia with such a corrupted information environment.
Growing up in a country where I've seen first hand what happens when people get brainwashed by a fascist government using a censored and controlled media environment, I suppose I have a bit more sympathy for some of the Russian soldiers than most, whilst also being able to simultaneously be appalled by their actions and the destruction and suffering they are causing in Ukraine.

Putin droning on today in a lengthy rant about the West and NATO. It's all our fault for trying to force Russia to hold gay parades, or something

It's probably only the certain knowledge that they'd be shortly found dead on the pavement outside their apartments, (after mudering their family naturally), if they dared to openly laugh at this horseshit, that enables him to spout it in front of anyone.tabascoboy wrote: ↑Thu Oct 27, 2022 4:02 pm Putin droning on today in a lengthy rant about the West and NATO. Everything in Russia is perfect, no need for change. Of course with a vox pop you never know how selective it is with the subjects in the video and if they speak only with safety first for fear of being found and arrested but that's not encouraging.

Good thread. Nothing particularly new but nice snippet re Americans and their inability to operate without air superiority.
Also gives Ukraine huge credit for their ability to train and learn.

Is it a case of 'can't' or a case of 'don't need to'?Uncle fester wrote: ↑Fri Oct 28, 2022 12:48 pm

The fact the US generally exploit air superiority is pretty much because they without fail achieve air superiority. They'd be idiots not to use it, but it's not to say they couldn't operate without it. I'm also not clear how deeply involved Western allies are in mission planning itself, but I can't really see how the Ukrainians can be so informed about Russian situation without significant input from the comparatively sophisticated intelligence capabilities their allies possess.
Anyway, even noting that necessity is generally considered the mother of invention, the inventiveness of the Ukrainians has been remarkable - not least in the development of a culture and command structure that actively encourages it. Given they both were part of the old Soviet military and subject to the same doctrines, it's noteworthy how far the Ukrainians have moved on whilst the Russians, if anything, have regressed.

In spite of this, I'm sure we haven't heard the last of this distraction tactic from Russia and Vatniks

Personally I think anyone getting shot & killed at a shooting range, can never be an; "accident".
It's either murder, or criminally negligent homicide , aka manslaughter. Even fuckwit Orcs should know how to use safety catches

Apparently the habitual annual conscription starts very soon, they don't have the ability to handle the numbers of both conscription and mobilisation concurrently. Always the chance they might restart mobilisation again later.
Understood. We'll have to see how it pans out. The mobilisation was not exactly popular, when over 1 million men leave the country you might guess it's not sold to the general public.tabascoboy wrote: ↑Sat Oct 29, 2022 6:55 amApparently the habitual annual conscription starts very soon, they don't have the ability to handle the numbers of both conscription and mobilisation concurrently. Perhaps another sign that RU know they will have to abandon Kherson city?

Yes, not clear what happened yet as claims still seem to be unverified. Some reports say a frigate was hit, Russia claim the attack was repelled including a marine UAV, and they have withdrawn from the "Grain Export Agreement"Uncle fester wrote: ↑Sat Oct 29, 2022 4:23 pm Sevastapol naval docks been hit by an apparent drone attack.
RU appear to have resorted to increasing oddball claims in the disinformation war as below but also that we attacked the Nordstream pipeline...
Meanwhile I fear we may see more of these as the weeks go by

Thanks Russia, doing your bit for global starvation
Reasonable article on the Iranian drones here. An insight into the future of warfare... imagine properly set up robotic plants churning these things out in their thousands, cheap as chips.

I don't know this channel, and it's anti-Ukrainian, but it's showing an armoured column getting into trouble with conventional artillery... and regardless of its veracity, a good indication of just what the Ukrainians are up against.

Continuing the attacks on infrastructure on cities and towns. At least many were shot down but UA still in dire need of air defence systems as it's such a huge territory to cover. Electricity blackouts and water shortages widespread again.
Of which 44 were reportedly shot down.tabascoboy wrote: ↑Mon Oct 31, 2022 8:40 am Continuing the attacks on infrastructure on cities and towns. Anyone know how many cruise missiles Russia have left? It seems to me that at this rate of attrition Putin's cupboards are going to be stripped bare and the remaining Orcs are going to reduced to chucking rocks.

Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov revealed Friday morning the number of missiles Russia has left and said that defeating Russian President Vladimir Putin's military is "inevitable."
Reznikov posted an illustration on Twitter showing that, as of October 12, Russia has 609 missiles left out of 1,844 missiles it had when it first invaded Ukraine on February 24.
The remaining ones include 124 ground-launched missiles out of an initial 900 and 272 Kalibr missiles, which are launched by sea, out of an initial 500. There are also 213 air-launched cruise missiles (Kh-101-Kh555) still remaining from the 444 that Moscow initially had at the beginning of the war.
