Whilst I enter my 6th decade upon this place called earth mortality and aging becomes ever more so to the fore.

This was starkly put into my focus today when I met up with a few colleagues I hadn't seen for over 15 years.

Strange how I recognised their voices instantly but they looked old, not how I remember them at all.

Think Kes from Star Trek old, bloated weather beaten and lacking in sparkle.

I see friends on facebook who have aged terribly and clearly don't look after themselves.

It’s sobering isn’t it. I have a big bunch of friends - we have been together for several decades. Now, a few of us are starting to look a tad beaten up. That’s life, I guess.

I am coming up to 51 and (according to the Mrs) I look about 36.
My head of hair for someone my age is just criminal.

My heart on the other hand can go at any second and I have to have regular scans and yearly checks.

Luckily for me, I have a full head of hair a few touches of grey that befits my age and I look younger than 10 years ago.
Changing to a low carb, low processed food lifestyle has made a massive difference.

I showed a colleague who had not seen me for over a decades a pic from 3 plus years ago when I was 16 stone us and they did not believe it was me...

I looked like Peter Griffin lol

I was pleased when someone put up a photo on Facebook of the school 6th form leavers' do and someone remarked that I must have a painting of myself in the attic.

A full head of hair and not putting on too much weight generally makes you look younger. Plus I have the beard growing ability of a 13 year old albino.

I'm going grey.
My right knees shot.
Can't straighten my right arm.
A few fingers don't work properly.
I make the same noise when I sit down and when I get up.

Apart from that, fit as fuck(ed)..
I love watching little children running and screaming, playing hide and seek in the playground.
They don't know I'm using blanks..

Playing league again this season after 4 years away traveling (and 4 years playing rugby before that), and the pain in my hips and knees driving home from the games is actually worse than the pain of dislocating my shoulder a couple of times on the pitch.
Welcome to the gutter... we've been expecting you!

That is mother nature telling you to call time on playing, it's something we all have to face, I know I utterly hated it, took me over a year to be able to go watch a game again.

I just had a whole body MRI and now have the following (from 18 years of Martial Arts and a Bike Crash):

Herniated C4,5 and 6 Disks - explains the crippling headaches
Herniated T6,7 and 8 Herniated Disks - explains why I can't get up easily
Wrist has a damaged Tendon causing pain in the thumb when gripping
Worn away the cartilage in my left elbow and have punched a hole in one of bones....

Fark

What I took from this is C69 is going around meeting up with old friends just to show how much thinner he is today. If they can't remember how big he was he's even bringing pictures to make it clear to them. I think there is a word for this.

I expect that C69’s friends will be on their Pigeon Fanciers Forum right now talking about how old he looks.

Is he the doctor? Probably helpfully informing them they'll be dead soon unless they commit to his revolutionary change in dietary habits.

There is nothing to like about getting old.

I spent years being fast and bullet proof. To the incredulity of my friends and family, I bounced back from broken bones and serious injuries like some sort of unnatural force. I looked younger than my years, I stayed slim, I could do the splits fercryinoutloud...

It comes to an end. Sometimes slow and grinding, sometimes brutal, perhaps so quickly no one sees it coming. None of us escape. None of us should be surprised because it’s been written about for as long as we’ve had words to describe it but all the same, surprised we are. We get old. We see it around us all the time... old people getting slower on their feet, getting ridiculously more careful with their balance, with their change or the cards we use for currency. Then we see it in our friends, the people we’ve known for 40 or 50 years suddenly get old overnight and then it dawns on us that we’ve known these people for 40 or 50 fucking years and that’s half a fucking century and there is no escaping the sudden awful shock of what the fuck I got old.

The body does what it can and that’s pretty bloody unreal... do it a favour and look after it. You’ll be grateful eventually when you can keep up with some fuckwit 30 years younger and oblivious of your achievement.

Normal BMI and haven't smoked for over 15 years.

Did you get a prosthetic testicle?

My actual mother and wife have been telling me the same - being a right misogynist bastard, I'm ignoring all three of them and embracing a life of pain. :shh:
