The decline in new infections over the past 3-4 weeks is very pleasing. Hopefully this continues. Would be great to get into double figures sometime soon. And with the declining infections, so too the deaths will start to decline.

I think we are definitely becoming numb to the data as a result of this pandemic. I think the high numbers coming out of overseas jurisdictions, especially the USA, have made it all a bit surreal, and impersonal. As Stalin famously said, one death is a tragedy, a million deaths is a statistic.

Had a long chat to my brother today who is in Melbourne and has effectively been in lockdown (working from home) since March.

It;s a different world down there compared to QLD. The restrictions they face and sacrifices they are making are unbelievable. Life is pretty much normal up here, but down there almost every element of life has changed.

Dan Andrews appeared in the Northface jacket today.

He said something about maybe going from 4 -> 3 after the six weeks.

Also, the ADF (not ill-disciplined security guards) will be patrolling Victorian beaches this weekend to prevent breaches of the lockdown rules.

The authorities will be using drones to identify any illegal gatherings.

Back to triple digits today in Victoria, but still not too bad given where they were a month ago. The deaths of elderly people are still worrying, apparently the fatality rate for people over 80 years of age who catch COVID-19 in Victoria is around 25%.

So I’m coming to the end of a 14 day quarantine and I tell, it’s not easy. Got tested yesterday and if I’m negative I can leave the house Tuesday.
To be honest, the DHHS has proved to be pretty uninformed and all over the place. Their advice is contradictory and they are clearly overwhelmed.
I really hope I don’t need to stay at home any longer.

I expect to see the numbers down to the 10 or so a day range in two weeks. So its all a bit dooms-dayish saying we wont go out of lock down in two weeks time.
Then I expect a few weeks to a month of stage 3 while we get numbers down to as near 0 as we can again.

For me, it demonstrates that we need a more federal approach and having the states lead is difficult if the government wants to give a clear message.
To be honest, I dont like how the leaders are playing politics on this and instead they should be giving a clear and consistent message that is easy to follow and doesnt lead to the division and protest we are seeing.
