Thanks. I feel like I'm hitting peak stay at home form, only heading out for an hour a day, staying confined to my apartment and watching passers by like a hawk.

The decline in new infections over the past 3-4 weeks is very pleasing. Hopefully this continues. Would be great to get into double figures sometime soon. And with the declining infections, so too the deaths will start to decline.Jimmy Smallsteps wrote: ↑Sun Aug 23, 2020 11:58 pm Thanks. Hopefully without the screeching and the shitting on the ledge. You are welcome to eat pigeons, mind.Jimmy Smallsteps wrote: ↑Sun Aug 23, 2020 11:58 pm Thanks. Pigeons? Hawks eat their own bird kind? That's some dark shit.MungoMan wrote: ↑Mon Aug 24, 2020 10:28 amHopefully without the screeching and the shitting on the ledge. Nah. Millet and dried cuttlefish mainly. Perhaps the odd sesame seed crunch.Jimmy Smallsteps wrote: ↑Tue Aug 25, 2020 10:56 amPigeons? Hawks eat their own bird kind? Hawks eat other birds. Google it... nasty scenes, especially the pigeon victims right there on the street in front of us Maude, someone for god sake, think of the children.

That's a very high deaths figure. Hopefully those numbers start to decline very quickly.
The overall infections data is still heading downward though, which is pleasing. Keeping in mind that less than a month ago Victoria recorded nearly 800 new infections on a single day.

The brutal reality about death arising from serious infection or similar is that the numbers will continue on an upward or constant trajectory after infection rates drop. It’s simple logic... we fight on and either live or die but it takes time. The death rate rose more slowly than the infection rate, it will fall more slowly as well.Carter's Choice wrote: ↑Wed Aug 26, 2020 12:07 amThat's a very high deaths figure. I wonder sometimes though... since this pandemic started and we’ve had the various discussion threads with some arguing about controls and the like with numbers and stats hurled around in order to win arguments... these numbers are all personal tragedies for so many families. Of course people die every day and sometimes horribly... are we becoming numb to this through this pandemic?

I think we are definitely becoming numb to the data as a result of this pandemic. I think the high numbers coming out of overseas jurisdictions, especially the USA, have made it all a bit surreal, and impersonal. As Stalin famously said, one death is a tragedy, a million deaths is a statistic.Shanky’s mate wrote: ↑Wed Aug 26, 2020 12:24 amThe brutal reality about death arising from serious infection or similar is that the numbers will continue on an upward or constant trajectory after infection rates drop. 113 new cases in Victoria overnight. Sadly 23 new deaths.
C'mon Victoria you can get to double figures in terms of infections!

Whilst the numbers in QLD continue to be relatively good, the fact that we can't seem to fully contain the virus is a worry.

Can anyone? I think people in the likes of Queensland and NZ need to reset their expectations a bit.Carter's Choice wrote: ↑Fri Aug 28, 2020 3:18 am Whilst the numbers in QLD continue to be relatively good, the fact that we can't seem to fully contain the virus is a worry.

Great for Victoria dropping down under 100 infections, how low is it likely to go before restrictions start to lift?
Or is it more where the cases are and who they're linked to than the raw number?

Had a long chat to my brother today who is in Melbourne and has effectively been in lockdown (working from home) since March.
It;s a different world down there compared to QLD. The restrictions they face and sacrifices they are making are unbelievable. Life is pretty much normal up here, but down there almost every element of life has changed.

Dan Andrews appeared in the Northface jacket today.
He said something about maybe going from 4 -> 3 after the six weeks.
Also, the ADF (not ill-disciplined security guards) will be patrolling Victorian beaches this weekend to prevent breaches of the lockdown rules.
The authorities will be using drones to identify any illegal gatherings.

Back to triple digits today in Victoria, but still not too bad given where they were a month ago. The deaths of elderly people are still worrying, apparently the fatality rate for people over 80 years of age who catch COVID-19 in Victoria is around 25%.

Today's QLD data
So I’m coming to the end of a 14 day quarantine and I tell, it’s not easy. Got tested yesterday and if I’m negative I can leave the house Tuesday.
To be honest, the DHHS has proved to be pretty uninformed and all over the place. Their advice is contradictory and they are clearly overwhelmed.
I really hope I don’t need to stay at home any longer.

Good luck with that Farva.
Numbers in NSW continue to bubble along at a constant rate and the media seem content to ignore it. Nothing political about that, I’m sure.

Infections rates are pleasing in Victoria, but 41 lives lost is terrible.

While the 41 deaths is a shocker, 22 of those have been added to the total but were in fact from previous weeks. They were aged care fatalities that had not been recorded until now.

For Guy Smiley, NSW's data for Aug 31
So the authorities are saying the numbers are too high to go out of lock down and that is correct. They are at around the 100 mark. But we still have two weeks to go. I expect to see the numbers down to the 10 or so a day range in two weeks. So its all a bit dooms-dayish saying we wont go out of lock down in two weeks time.
Then I expect a few weeks to a month of stage 3 while we get numbers down to as near 0 as we can again.

Yeah, sounds about right. I think there’s enormous pressure on the State govt to lift restrictions or announce a ‘plan’... hence the ‘too soon to lift lockdown’ statement.Farva wrote: ↑Mon Aug 31, 2020 2:44 am So the authorities are saying the numbers are too high to go out of lock down and that is correct. Saw Josh Frydenburg interviewed on ABC this morning and he was deflecting from the question being repeatedly asked on aged care, and the winding back of jobkeeper, and was focusing on Vic going too hard.
For me, it demonstrates that we need a more federal approach and having the states lead is difficult if the government wants to give a clear message.
To be honest, I dont like how the leaders are playing politics on this and instead they should be giving a clear and consistent message that is easy to follow and doesnt lead to the division and protest we are seeing.

yep, and you've had 42,000 deaths. So please don't preach to us about anything to do with COVID-19. We've all seen how poorly your country has done and we don't want to emulate that here.Bimbowomxn wrote: ↑Mon Aug 31, 2020 7:22 amWith infections still over 100, what is he proposing?

Yep, utterly partisan. Playing to big business and his conservative base, and trying to deflect Federal govt blame for the nation's lagging economy and the ever increasing deaths in aged care.mat the expat wrote: ↑Mon Aug 31, 2020 3:39 amHi outburst today was a fucking disgrace.Farva wrote: ↑Mon Aug 31, 2020 3:20 am
