Thailand has just tightened their entry requirements.
Likely my cycling trip in Jan is fucked then!

Might have spanner thrown in the works - we're waiting on a PCR test on my 22 month old old Grandaughter - she had contact with a case at Nursery and had a bit of a cough yesterday. We'll be gutted if we can't share Xmas with her and her 5 year old sister. Might have to set up an alternative Xmas Day.Ovals wrote: Wed Dec 15, 2021 9:36 pm We're fortunate that nearly all our family are all local. So, we'll be spending it with our 2 kids and our 6 Grandkids (ranging from 1 year old to 15 years old) - as long as no one catches Covid between now and then. I also have 3 sisters and lots of nieces/nephews in the area and a brother in London - we'll probably see some of them as well.
Love Xmas - especially when there's plenty of kids to share it with. They're growing up fast though, so have to make the most of it whilst they are young and still find it all magical.
Sux mate, hope she tests negativeOvals wrote: Tue Dec 21, 2021 10:41 pmMight have spanner thrown in the works - we're waiting on a PCR test on my 22 month old old Grandaughter - she had contact with a case at Nursery and had a bit of a cough yesterday. Just saw this. Condolences, bro.Ymx wrote: Wed Dec 15, 2021 8:18 pmYeah, just happened to me. Daughter won’t ever see grand pop again.Thor Sedan wrote: Wed Dec 15, 2021 4:07 pm 3rd attempt to get to NZ for Christmas has been firmly face planted again due to quarantine facility non availability.
Really worried that I'll not be able to get the kids over there in time to celebrate a Kiwi Christmas with their Grandparents......they are at that age where they jokingly say 'best enjoy it, probably be my last' - but I'm not laughing. Really hope we can get there next year.
My daughter arrived home from Auckland yesterday - first time I've seen her since April. Relieved and happy that she'll get to see her Gran for one last Xmas.

Looks like people who were already registered are OK.

Crete in July and Barcelona in August. Can't wait to get back to some normallity post Covid.
Near Heraklion in Crete and near the Marina for Barcelona, never visited either and am really looking forward to a decent Beach Holiday and a cultural City break.
All recommendations and ideas for trips and general info welcome guys.
The advice I had for the Fringe in Edinburgh on here was excellent

Great Spanish seafood restaurant on the marina: La Taberna Gallega de Marcos Barcelona - good value, excellent food.
If you are in the centre of the city and fancy a really nice Italian, go here: Rossini Ristorante
Edit: in fact Pl. Reial where this restaurant is located is a beautiful square and great spot to people watch with a pint.
Food market is ace, go there for lunch: Mercado de La Boqueria

Had a fabulous trip to Venice in September. For anyone visiting I couldn't recommend the Dorsoduro area enough. Only a few hundred yards over a bridge from the main tourist areas but a complete contrast with mainly local bars and restaurants which are a lot better and a fraction of the cost of the main areas.
Oddly we found Budapest to be one of the most expensive European cities we have visited recently but places like Venice and Vienna to be fairly cheap. This appears to be a complete contrast to most peoples experience.

Well that’s got me thinking. I wonder if there’s a game on near Strasbourg in September, I don’t even know when it is.Biffer wrote: Mon Jan 09, 2023 12:26 pm Nothing booked for this year but still considering a week or so in France for the RWC.
Don't think there's anything nearer than Paris
And are there two g’s in Bugger Off?
I think every ticket has been given to French bureaucrats....sorry sold to the public already.GogLais wrote: Mon Jan 09, 2023 2:00 pm Might be a bit parochial of me but the RWC site is a bit crap, it lists venues just by the name of the stadium. No stadium near where we’re thinking of going anyway but I will need to schedule the trip more carefully now, Ms GL permitting.Sandstorm wrote: Mon Jan 09, 2023 2:05 pmI think every ticket has been given to French bureaucrats....sorry sold to the public already.GogLais wrote: Mon Jan 09, 2023 2:00 pm Might be a bit parochial of me but the RWC site is a bit crap, it lists venues just by the name of the stadium. So it's off to Galway on Wednesday for a week, forecast looking as good as can be expected. Trip to the Arans and the Burren, some walks in Connemara, anything else unmissable? I've got Eryri and Liverpool on my doorstep so naturally anywhere else is going to struggle in comparison.
Off to Le Touquet, France for a weeks golfing at the end of the month. Been many times and it is like a second home now. 7 rounds of golf in 7 days plus 7 glorious evening meals - looking forward to lots of moules mariniere, aile de raie and creme brûlée. Can't come quick enough.

Fair fucks to you if you managed to get a pass for a round of golf each day

Ta, I suppose I’m contractually obliged to try Guinness again after a thirty year gap.EnergiseR2 wrote: Tue May 16, 2023 7:35 amKylemore Abbey is nice. Drive out to Clifden and do the Sky Road. Go for a hike up Diamond Hill near Kylemore. You could do both in tge same day if you got there early. Just driving around that part of the world is nice so even the coast road put by Leenane up into Mayo is lovely.GogLais wrote: Mon May 15, 2023 4:55 pm So it's off to Galway on Wednesday for a week, forecast looking as good as can be expected. A fortnight in Sardinia coming up - first week cycling round the south of the island (organised trip, tour company moving luggage & booked the hotels), then the second week in an airbnb in the north.
Weather forecast is currently looking a bit mixed! So I hope it clears up a bit.
And of course work is absolute carnage trying to get everything done this week.

Just had a week in Argyll with something close to wall to wall sunshine. More of that and no midges and it would be absolutely overrun with tourists all summer...

Just downsized motorhome as the kids have left home so want to use it. Off to Mull in mid June for a week. Wildlife watching and photography. Midges will hopefully still be sleepy - my cigar smoke usually keeps them away anyway.

That’s a definite, not sure about the Cliffs of Moher though, I might drag myself to within say ten metres of the edge.EnergiseR2 wrote: Tue May 16, 2023 2:45 pm The Burren is one of my favourite parts of the world and I've travelled a bit. It's just a bit weird and lovely
We're off to Mull in August, booked a spa hotel so the Mrs can occupy herself whilst I take our dog up Ben More. The beaches looking absolutely gleaming.vball wrote: Tue May 16, 2023 1:00 pm Just downsized motorhome as the kids have left home so want to use it. Off to Mull in mid June for a week. Got a few nights away in Dumfries and Galloway next week as a belated birthday present. Might look at somewhere for late June/July

We are off for a few days in Madeira with the kids this summer, looking forward to it I must say
All the money you made will never buy back your soul
Unfortunately I'm not going anywhere exotic this summer, having blown a ton of cash on a family holiday to South America over Xmas.
I am going to my mother-in-law's timeshare in some castle near Ayr for a week though . . . . . .
Jocks, any recommendations for family activites near Ayr? Ive 3 kids, the eldest being 7 and the youngest is 3.
As we are having to take my MiL as well, we are getting the boat to Cairnryan and they are driving up while I'm going to cycle it. Is it a decent area for cycling? Any epic road climbs worth doing?
Cheers
