The well known co-founder of The Clean was last seen at The Palms shopping centre in the city on November 27, with Kilgour’s family concerned for his wellbeing.

On Tuesday morning, a police spokesperson said the death has been referred to the Coroner.

Their whole discography is great, but the album those two are on - Time Will Die and Love Will Bury It - is a GOAT record.

Does anyone know any stuff similar to Devil's Spoke by Laura Marling?

It's sort of sinister folk music I guess. The minutiae of genres like metalcore are more my forte, so I don't really know where to start looking for this. She's got a few other similar songs like Hope In The Air and Devil's Resting Place, but most of her work I've checked out isn't really in that vein.

I'm not sure where to point you... that album was something of a departure in style for her for sure, but there's a shedload of singers out there now turning out thoughtful and introspective stuff.

What works for me is following artists on Spotify and letting the algorithm throw stuff back at me. I've rejected some dross but I've found some really cool stuff as well. Try that?

Maybe something like "dark folk"? Not really sure it quite falls into there though (and this doesn't have female vocals).

Thanks chaps. I suppose the closest thing to what I'm after might be the folkier side of Southern Gothic, although Marling being a Brit gives it a slightly different sonic slant.

Anyway the quest has reminded me of these gems in my library.

Yeah trawling Spotify is my go to for music exploration, was just hoping to maybe take a shortcut if possible.

Was just catching up on some new releases and found out that Scowl have decided that their fairly standard hardcore punk needed a dose of 90s alt rock.

Gotta say, I'm surprised at how much I dig it.

Found this live footage and I already knew their vocalist was hot, but damn.

Kiwis, I saw Xile supporting Alpha Wolf (good band, terrible name) over the weekend. Didn't realise you had any hardcore* bands that good.

*Clearly metalcore, but the vocalist said "Kiwi hardcore style, cunts" a couple of times while idiots (me among them), tried fighting the air in the pit, so I guess they identify a lot more with the 'core part of the genre.

Seeing La Dispute do their Wildlife anniversary tour on Friday.

Never heard of any of the support bands, but found Pool Kids to be quite fun, there's a slight Rumours era Fleetwood Mac influence to their indie rock.

Sadly attending that means I can't catch World of Pleasure hot on the heels of their latest EP. It's basic bitch straight edge hardcore in the best possible way.

While I'm on hardcore, Initiate just released a possible album of the year contender by mixing it up with a few different influences, but keeping all the rage.

I know we've got a couple of doomheads on the bored, so I thought I'd flag a recent release from The Acacia Strain. TAS are a heavy metalcore/deathcore band generally, but they've always had some very apparent sludge and doom influences. They put out a double album this month - Step Into The Light is very much focused on the quicker paced version of their sound, while Failure Will Follow is about as straight up doom as I've ever heard from them.

Also since I last posted in here I saw Counterparts live

It was probably one of the best shows I've seen in a while since I'd heard of and like every band on the bill right down to openers Dying Wish

who were followed by Paleface

and Kublai Khan

Then last weekend I caught the first UK headline show of emo-punks Youth Fountain. No support bands worth mentioning.

Likely wasn’t referencing the genre, more the Kiwiness. Lots of Taranaki hardcore and Gizzy (Gisborne) hardcore and the like exclamations from tits up north.

Oh right, perhaps. I've experienced a lot of metalcore bands who still cleave closely to and shout out the hardcore scenese they came out of, so I assumed that's what they were doing.
