I had worried while posting. Especially after tempting fate with the 60 average remark.

34-4.

It’s great seeing what Matt Henry can do given the new ball and with consistent time in the team.

If there’s a Sri Lankan equivalent of ‘Theo’, that was a hey it moment.
What is Hey Theo? I see it mentioned a lot?

A Kiwi on the Other Board was super-confident NZ would thrash France in the 07 RWC and was annoyed a mild-mannered poster called Theo said France might win. So he started a long call out thread titled “Hey Theo…”

The rest is history….

The poster that started that thread was Gtaaf. He actually took his medicine pretty well because as you can imagine, the ribbing was prolonged and merciless. Here we are now, still discussing it.

The unsung players deserve mention here though... the throng of NZ supporters who joined in with open scorn and disbelief at the idea NZ could lose to France. It would be unfair to mention any by name as my memory doesn't provide accurate data but there were quite a few and they deserve their moment of shame along with poor old Gtaaf.

The logic they relied on was familiar... NZ had been imperious so how could they lose. It's a well trodden path that provides a sense of comfort and safety for those reliant on complacency as a core value in life. Some of us... a small number, questioned it. France had lost at home in their own world cup and would be hurting, their players were proud and capable, etc. It fell on deaf ears. Onwards into the setting sun sailed the good ship Heedless.

That thread lived on for years and deservedly so... yet some of the key players proved over time that they hadn't learnt and the same arrogance and complacency still features at times.

With all that said, it looks as if we might get a result today... last man at the crease and minutes left to play.

Didn't need much of the additional 30mins. 2 - 0 series win is a good end to the summer.

Yep, it's been an encouraging end to a mixed summer. Two greats of the game in Taylor and Boult gone, and others like Wagner nearing their use by dates...

Thanks for the summary. I was only dipping in and out of PR at that time... so I may have even read some of the thread and had forgotten about it... It's interesting though that communities like this and PR almost develop their own sub culture... with their own language variations... Just shows how hundreds of years ago why we were so tribal... with little interaction with the outside world, only those around you do you truly trust...

Finn Allen with an outrageously wavy mullet and Chad Bowes with the sensible type of hairstyle you would expect from someone plying their trade for Canterbury have made a tidy start vs Sri Lanka in ODI 1.
