My missus is watching the 3rd season now and from what I can tell it is a total nostalgia-fest that doesn't necessarily make sense.

The plot is very good and a pretty clever conspiracy story. It's not relying on Nonstalga, though it certainly benefits from continunity and past events and much of the newbies are very likable and integrated into the story.

Its basically Picard and Riker investigating a distress call from Crusher while another plot thread follows another known character, but it isn't revealled at first. Riker's dealing with the death of his kid and running away from his marriage. Picard is desperate to save an old flame in over their head. Eventually they call upon old friends as more and more of this conspiracy is uncovered and the revelations and their implications get more serious. It's not until the 8th or 9th episode any nostalgia-based scenes are actually present. and when it happens it's beautiful.

Never been able to get into TNG, and watching Picard basically just to get some VFM from my Prime account. It really has been like "Oh look a TNG crew member!", "Oh look another TNG crew member!", "Oh look another TNG crew member!"

Does seem to pick up a bit in mid-season though, last episode I watched was the one where

One comment that sticks in my mind was vis-a-vis Kaleb. Which was that whilst he could be mocked for his narrow horizons and apparent lack of education, he and others like him across the farming world are daily operating a multitude of high value and very complex machines that would baffle most people. Yet they still get mocked as yokels, and talked down to by townies.

Farming is a tough business. You have to be really good at a diverse bunch of stuff to make it work. Much of this is non academic.

I have a load of farmers in my family. One a couple of farms over from Clarkson. The general sentiment has been that Clarkson's farm has done more for the public understanding of farming than 30 years of Countryfile.

As I have mentioned previously, The Cotswolds has a massive nimby problem with people moving there from the town and failing to grasp that people are actually trying to make a living off the land.

Yep, series 1 was excellent. I skipped 2 after all the shit reviews it got, and 3 was OK but still not a patch on 1.

Check out the US version to. The first couple of episodes may need to be pushed through a little, but it has some great storylines and differences. I prefer the UK version, but there are aspects of the US version I'd love to see them introduce in the UK one.

You could say the same about many servicemen and women. Often mocked for being less educated but often using and maintaining equipment that would baffle the shit out of most people.

Seven Kings Must Die. I know it's a film but it rounds of Tye Last Kingdom. Thought it was a decent way to round it off but I'm gutted it's all done, bar a new book with some short stories. Brunanburh was obviously where all the cash went and it paid off imo.

Not from the same era perhaps, but in a similar vein and set in the 70s, I found The Game on Now TV, it's a Cold War thriller series with a great cast, Tom Hughes, Jonathan Aris, Victoria Hamilton, Shaun Dooley, Chole Pirrie, Brian Cox, Paul Ritter.

I'm a sucker for this sort of thing and it didn't disappoint. It was made in 2014 and I've no idea how I missed it at the time or why there was never a second series made.

I watched it when I was quite young and enjoyed it... not seen it since the 80s. Was one of the first big roles for Jeremy Irons... but Anthony Andrews stole the show...
