Clare Nowland is fighting for her life in hospital after staff at her NSW nursing home called the police on Wednesday morning, when Mrs Nowland was armed with a steak knife.
Officers reportedly struggled to disarm her before one pulled out their stun gun and fired as Mrs Nowland stood next to her walking frame.
“One of the police officers who responded, a senior constable, activated his Taser, which struck Claire, whereby she fell to the ground, striking her head,” southern region commander Assistant Commissioner Peter Cotter said on Friday.
“At the time she was Tasered she was approaching police. It is fair to say at a slow pace. She had a walking frame. But she had a knife.”
So this senior constable lacks the basic policing skills to non-violently negotiate a confrontation with a 95 year-old woman suffering from dementia.Guy Smiley wrote: Sat May 20, 2023 5:38 am linkomaticClare Nowland is fighting for her life in hospital after staff at her NSW nursing home called the police on Wednesday morning, when Mrs Nowland was armed with a steak knife.

What a fucking world-class loser. How is it possible for feckless cunts like this to get anywhere near a police uniform, let alone make it to "senior" constable? I hope they throw the book at him.

I reckon he should emigrate to the USA, he'd fit right in with their police tactics.Gumboot wrote: Sat May 20, 2023 6:02 amSo this senior constable lacks the basic policing skills to non-violently negotiate a confrontation with a 95 year-old woman suffering from dementia.Guy Smiley wrote: Sat May 20, 2023 5:38 am linkomaticClare Nowland is fighting for her life in hospital after staff at her NSW nursing home called the police on Wednesday morning, when Mrs Nowland was armed with a steak knife.

Do we need a thread for NSW Police brutalising elderly dementia patients?

Six police officers used two sets of handcuffs on a distressed and frail 81-year-old woman with dementia after she took a lanyard from a staff member at her Sydney nursing home.
Body-worn camera footage shows Rachel Grahame, who has advanced dementia and weighs just 45kg, howling in distress as a team of police surround and handcuff her late at night at St Basil’s aged care home in Randwick on 31 October 2020.
At various points, a confused Grahame asks police why they are handcuffing her, tells one he is a “big brute”, and screams in discomfort at the tightness of the restraints.
The incident prompted Grahame’s family to sue NSW police in the state’s district court, accusing officers of assault, battery and false imprisonment. Police settled and paid compensation for their treatment of Grahame in November 2021.
Rachel’s daughter, Emma Grahame, is now speaking publicly for the first time, outraged at revelations that police used a Taser on 95-year-old dementia sufferer Clare Nowland in Cooma this week.
“It just showed me that the police have learned nothing from the actions that we took against them,” Grahame told the Guardian.

The real reason for the cancellation of the US President’s trip to Australia has been revealed, after The White House confirmed it was concerned about the NSW Police policy of tasering the elderly.
“We would have had a situation where an elderly man, brandishing a pen he’s just used to sign an international agreement, is slowly walking towards a crowd of people. He’d be tasered within seconds,” a spokesperson for the Secret Service said.
NSW Police confirmed the threat of an 80-year-old walking freely amongst other Quad-partner delegates was too great. “Who knows what could happen? You can imagine a scenario where a conversation at the post-conference networking event turns sour, and all of a sudden you have an octogenarian charging at a slow walking pace towards delegates wielding a canape toothpick, or worse, a swizzle stick. We would’ve had to neutralise that threat,” a police official explained.

Re the 95 year old lady, if you can't handle that as a cop, don't be a cop.....
Makes me feel sick thinking of my mother being treated like that. What is wrong with them as humans let alone policemen?Guy Smiley wrote: Sun May 21, 2023 1:44 am Do we need a thread for NSW Police brutalising elderly dementia patients?

“Facts are meaningless. You could use facts to prove anything that's even remotely true.”
Haha... pretty much, but they also seem to take what make a good two or three part mini series (which seemed to be all the rage when I was a kid), and stretch them to 8-10 eps with a far too much fluff. Even worse, do feck all in an entire series and only move ahead in the next one.

^ Too my shame, I follow that cat on IG. His owners regularly update the page... he's a 'wobbly cat' born with cerebellar hypoplasia, so he's just an uncoordinated food destroyer. He's happy and affectionate... and yeah, that Scouse Meow...

Well theory is that there was a partition that made a cupboard which was removed to make a larger room, but they didn't bother with making a new partition in the doorway and just left the door instead!fishfoodie wrote: Sun May 28, 2023 8:02 pm You've been wooshed !![]()

I pay £28/kg for freshly roasted whole bean and consider that pretty premium pricing.
I pay £30/gram for powdered unicorn horn, and it doesn't make my humming bird tongue pate sandwich taste any better either..
I love watching little children running and screaming, playing hide and seek in the playground.
