Some hectic flooding in the Boland. Can only reach Cape Town now via Hermon.

I think it's 4 weeks of rain so far. And another week still to come. I am constantly draining my pool and tanksOomStruisbaai wrote: Thu Jun 15, 2023 11:46 am Some hectic flooding in the Boland. Can only reach Cape Town now via Hermon.

Our company is having its annual sales conference over the long weekend which sucks donkey balls. Boarding tomorrow morning at 5.30 and only landing at Jan Smuts 6pm on Sunday.
Zevenwacht wine estate.
Looking at the reports and videos, I can't believe they haven't canceled it yet.
I sincerely hope they cancel before we depart tomorrow morning.

Fucking cold. Wet. Still night at 8am.
Unpopular opinion but I've been reminded again why I hate Cape Town.
And then there's the sales conference over a long weekend plus father's day... 8am to 10pm. And consisted out of fucking Italians and Germans who believe Europeans are superior to us, can barely speak English and.... the only positive thing.... permanently cured me of insomnia.
Oh and of course inter-branch fighting and directors who wants more profit but comes up wit the most unworkable solutions ever. Or otherwise stating the fucking obvious.
And since I don't drink I was awarded by being taken to the fucked up airport at 1pm. And I depart at 6pm. Whilst the others from Gauteng are treated with a wine tasting. I couldn't at least have joined them for the cheese.
We could have done this whole thing with a fucking 15 minute Teams meeting.
The more astute amongst you might have noticed I'm slightly pissed off.
They dumped you at the airport because a) you don’t drink or b) they were sick of you moaning all week?troglodiet wrote: Sun Jun 18, 2023 1:01 pmhandyman wrote: Fri Jun 16, 2023 9:30 amIt's a lovely place, but yeah, not sure that's the best idea in this weather.troglodiet wrote: Thu Jun 15, 2023 4:31 pm Our company is having its annual sales conference over the long weekend which sucks donkey balls. But I am venting now.
Even worse, last night 2 of my colleagues invited me to have some good old fashioned 4:20. I feel asleep in my room so didn't go. Only this morning the fuckers told me they had a Sativa strain, which they don't usually smoke and the only one I do.

Are you not a branch manager or mid-level manager of some sort? I fear you might have made it too obvious that you had better things to do with your time and they were happy to oblige?troglodiet wrote: Sun Jun 18, 2023 1:01 pmhandyman wrote: Fri Jun 16, 2023 9:30 amIt's a lovely place, but yeah, not sure that's the best idea in this weather.troglodiet wrote: Thu Jun 15, 2023 4:31 pm Our company is having its annual sales conference over the long weekend which sucks donkey balls. I had much better things to do, and really hope they realised it.
Like spending a long weekend, which includes Father's day, with my family.
I was by law under no obligation to go. My employment contract reflects this.
I was doing them a favour by attending. I'm not their slave, I'm a person who sells my time and expertise to them. That time is specified in my contract, and doesn't include long weekends.

And by manipulating that formula, the less work you do the higher up you appear to be.

What an absolute dissapointing visit to Jeffrey's bay for the Corona pro. The weekend was flat. At least Saturday there was a ripple and we got to watch the groms perform whilst we sucked on our Corona's. I didn't see a single pro in the time there. I even went to the Athletes area , guarded by 3 huge guards, and tried to get in to chat. " no, we will lose our jobs "
I asked if they would just get me some signatures and waa told I could wait at the entrance and maybe a pro might arrive and that would be my opportunity. I doubt any of the pros would hang around with such small surf.
But it was very festive. I couldn't believe how many travel, even from abroad, to watch these tournaments. And what a party it is.
Of course the evening music festival was a bridge too far for me at my age. Can't imagine bumping and grinding with teens. We rather tested the " best restaurant in town ". Die Viswyf.....can highly recommend it. But don't snack before you go out to eat in Jeffrey's. The portions are huge...and according to our hostess it's a thing in Jeffrey's. But when I say huge....an example. My wife and I decided to try a mussel pot mains to share as a starter. We got a huge portion of fresh salad, ciabatta toasted slices and a huge dollop of savory rice with the small potjie pot with 12 odd mussels inside. An amazing wine sauce for dipping. For 90 smackaroos.
It's mostly retired Afrikaans people we came into contact with from the locals. And lots of tourists. It was a rushed decision so we didn't take the kids with. The travel was long and I would have killed one of them before we got there.
I have decided that we are going with the whole family next year for a week. There are so many activities for the kids to do. They would not get bored.
Oh. And a warning. When purchasing WSL merchandise. Go 2 sizes bigger. The sizes are for space aliens they are so small. My son's cricket coach has a daughter with a very sad story. She loves surfing with her dad. I hope the shirt we got her fits. The ones we bought for my sons , one is going to another home. Too small. That's a large...????
We also got her lots of WSL merchandise which was being handed out. It was her shirt we wanted the signatures on.

With the holiday season looming I wanted to sort out the back of the bakkie. Before I had a big aluminum box at the back which took up so much space. It was cramped at the back for the kids and I normally take 7 in my bakkie because I also pull the trailer which is much easier to load. So 2 in the back.
My wife found these heavy duty runners but they were too long with the big box in so removed the big box and fitted 2 aluminum boxes to the sides ( 1 holds tools and the other all the ropes and bungi chords ). I then fitted 2 big boxes on the runners between the side boxes. They are shallow because I didn't want to lose height inside the back. Only 105mm in the boxes on the runners and 125mm in the side boxes. I had measured some of the toys so had an idea of the minimum height needed. Between the boxes I am storing a shit load more than I had before. Besides the side boxes , the back box has all the toys. Wetsuits, oars, umbrellas, beach tent etc. The front box keeps all the inflatables. I didn't realize how many I had till I pulled them out from the garage. So we spent yesterday inflating them all to check for leaks and will pack them back today.
It supports the kids weight. Easily, And my kids aren't light weight. If it is pushed back. I wouldn't chance it extended. The kids have that drummed into them.
It's great having the pull out section. You don't have to climb in the back to get things out. My main goal. Now the kids throw a mattress across the boxes. Lie lengthwise with pillows behind them for a much more comfortable ride.

Terribly sad, 73 dead at the time of writing this.
Sheesh. Was 20 this morning at 7 am
So why aren't we talking about these strong swells that ravaged the western cape and KwaZulu-Natal coasts.
A ship I have been waiting for finally arrived in the Cape harbor on Thursday and was in line to offload when the swells hit. They left the line and sailed to Walvis Bay. Now we have to ship it from Walvis back again......
....already 3 months late.
I was curious as to what caused it...my tin hat said underwater alien base. Russian experimental sonic device......
All I knew is that in all the videos there seems to be average size waves and then this monster comes rolling in over those small waves like a mini tsunami. How vokking exciting
Turns out it's actually quite boring.
A strong low pressure cell over the sea.
Strong winds swirling and agitating the waves causing an increase in height.

Storm surge. Very common in places like Florida ahead of a hurricane.Sards wrote: Mon Sep 18, 2023 4:02 pm So why aren't we talking about these strong swells that ravaged the western cape and KwaZulu-Natal coasts.

Week ago you could watch the whales from the side.
Now you can see them on the N2
A nice story. Someone we know brought a bloke from Zimbabwe to South Africa to help him in his business here. But treated him very badly. Wouldn't pay him a salary. Paid his daughters school fees etc. And gave him pocket money. So not strictly any kind of salary or wage. And it's manipulation. Anyway. It folded and we took him in. The wife and I. In our business. He worked his way into being my right hand and we set him up in a safe home...the conditions his daughter lived in and went to school in were shocking....and made sure he had all the necessary stuff to educate his daughter, cell phone, laptop, internet etc. and made him take control over his own finances. Anyway enough regarding the details. The dad pushed his daughter through junior school, high school and into online university. Paying for it all himself. Yesterday she left for Germany on a study bursary in robotics for 2 years. She is going to attend Dubai where she entered a competition and is currently in the top 3. How proud does that make the dad.
