The music probably sounds so old fashioned now, but The Band has soundtracked my life since I started listening as a teenager. They were all incredible musicians, there is an incident in the Last Waltz where Eric Clapton's guitar strap gave way in the middle of a solo and Robertson just steps in and carries on, barely missing a beat.
I think the guest list they attracted for that concert/film gives you some idea of the esteem in which they were held by their peers.

Robertson was a brilliant songwriter, there is a line from Acadian Driftwood which tugs at the heart of this Scottish expat

So sad, his songs have been a big part of my life since I first heard The Band when I was a kid in the mid 80s. They were long gone by then of course (the original incarnation) but something about the music, the image etc just grabbed me.

Only one of them left now - Garth Hudson, but doesn’t sound like he has long left either.

I have a hugely eclectic musical taste but their first two albums are as close to musical perfection as you can get.

One day I’ll get to Big Pink.
