On the Hogg thing I see no issues with what he said.

Team out.

As expected except a traditional bench split with Price, Redpath and Smith.

Rambo in France as a precaution during to Ashman being hurt.

If there's anyone else that isn't bothered about watching the match they can do my 12 hour shift if they want.

5:3 split for replacements.
Thought they may have gone for 6:2 but Toonie must have faith in the tight boys holding up and lasting a good spell against the beefy Boks.

Other than a very minor quibble about Price over Horne I don’t think anyone will disagree with that 23?

Completely random side point but has anyone noticed the abomination the Scottish BBC rugby pages have become. There is now a kind of single stream of consciousness blog type thing rather than individual stories which means articles cannot be linked to or discussed. They have done this to the Scottish page but not to the English, Welsh or Irish pages all of which still have individual stories. Not really a big deal in the grand scheme of things but another indicator of quite how low down the priority list rugby is for BBC Scotland - they can't even be bothered to curate the website properly any more.

Can’t say I’m unhappy with the 23, surprised but not unhappy with the 6/2 bench split, glad Toony isn’t selecting just to counter SA.

I did wonder if Steyn would get the nod over Darcy with the opposition starting Wings being of diminutive stature.

Darcy for me 99 times out of 100, but on this occasion I think I might have gone for a bigger winger.

On reflection I think the 5:3 split may be an error. Not just the chance of injury but going to be bloody hot

The bench split is often looked back on as a genius coaching decision or a disastrous one. And the thing that decides which of the two is more often than not luck.

I imagine Toony thinks that having fresh fast legs towards the end of the match will give us a chance to sneak something rather than having the extra forward. Time will tell if he is right !

But Darcy is a better attacker, fleeter of foot and a better defender so bulk really means little in this case.

Apparently has concussion, so may yet be injury enforced selection rather than choice

I'll give toony a pass then. I'm sure he'll be relieved to hear that.

The level of competence in Scottish football and rugby is quite disconcerting at the moment. I'm sure we will get back to normal soon.

Yeah the later news reports on the team are saying he was unavailable (concussion)

Take your point, but I think the backline is where we might have an edge, so picking bench cover that should let us keep our shape and minimise the risk of playing a chunk of the game with a makeshift lineup make sense to me. trying to avoid ceding what slight advantage we might have, basically. I think he’ll go 6/2 for Ireland tho.

They were 3-0 up after half an hour! I’m actually slightly annoyed they didn’t go on to absolutely hammer the Cypriots with a few more, because if they had then they would have made it virtually impossible for Norway to catch us if we got just one more point. As it is, they have to beat Spain and make up a deficit of 13 goals, but it’s still doable.

I will be travelling down the M6 on Sunday after dropping off the firstborn to start Uni in Embra. Forgot to set the Sky box to record the game, so we’ll probably win it now.

It was a long shot, there was a CJ on the old Guardian comments section, I think he had something to do with Hong Kong. He was one of us that left en-masse to set up what was originally called The Haskell Diaries, eventually becoming The Art of Domination .

It was a lively discussion board before succumbing to the usual rancour and petty squabbling

I find myself quite pleased for England. They've been down a hole and that was very gutsy. Argentina were unbelievably bad true, but still.

That said, if England drop kick us to death in Murrayfield next year I may have to pack rugby in.

Nah, the draw means they'll make the semis where they'll most likely meet one of France, New Zealand, South Africa, Ireland or, cough, Scotland.

My golf invite is off due to them having Covid so it looks like i'm resigned to watching this. It's such a shit emotion at the moment, almost like we have been wrongly accused of some crime and sentenced to hard labour, whilst the real criminals, England, Wales and Australia are sunning themselves on the Costa del Sol. 😩

Watching this game and it dawned on me that as much as the SRU get wrong they've managed to organise games v Tier 2 and 3 countries to help get developing nations matches.

Since GT has in charge we have toured Japan, USA, played in Samoa, Fiji, Chile, hosted Georgia, Samoa (I think) and had a tour in Romania buggered by Covid.
