It's the type of thing that v Romania looks good but may not work v a SA or Ireland and may apparently see your place called into question.

I know the TV often lies when a clean break looks like 1 more pass would be a try, but fuck me how often has the man in possession missed an easy pass for a try. I think I’be counted 9 now.

On the list. Time for one more?KingBlairhorn wrote: ↑Sat Sep 30, 2023 7:54 pmWas just looking this up but you beat me to the punch. He could conceivably get 5 or 6 if he stays on. 5 players have scored 4 in a match for Scotland (including Steyn), only one has scored 5 (and that was in 1887!) and none 6.

Big fan of Darcy doing the classic ‘limp after you did something stupid’ routine there. A speciality of my own back in the day
Can’t believe there is really a debate about Darcy, surely one of the most underrated players amongst opposition supporters there has ever been.
His kicking was good but not sure if it was good enough to convince me Healy isn’t an Irish plant after tonight.
Controversy time. I’m picking Mish for Ireland. I’m also moments away from picking Redpath

So, is anyone's place for the Ireland game up for grabs after that?
Mish had a good game. I thought Crosbie was brilliant in the under the radar stuff but if Ritchie is fit I don't see a change in the back row or Fagerson on the bench.
Gilcho to start for me, along with Gray.
Graham, for fuck sakes, Graham to start.

I can see arguments for Watson, Price and Smith all starting. Only one I'd argue against is Watson.
Graham is clearly one of our two best wingers.
Healy is our 2nd best 10.

I don't think Smith is anywhere near Kinghorn yet, that is not meant as a slur on Smith, but Kinghorn offers so much more in attack
I think it’s pretty close but I’d go for Kinghorn at the moment, his attack is frightening

But Smith is better in defence , positioning , throws less forward passes , drops less balls , better under a high ball, doesn't go 'missing' in games

I just don't get that "close"
Kinghorn is the same as Hogg was, not the greatest defender of all time and not one who will never make a mistake, but he is absolutely who you want going forward - he is quicker than Hogg ever was too, according to Toonie.

fewer
We’ve been round the houses a few times on this, he just has too many flaws in amongst the genius for me to ever feel completely comfortable with him. I don’t think he’s anything like Hogg in defence, his tackling is genuinely shocking for a top class rugby playerTichtheid wrote: ↑Sat Sep 30, 2023 9:15 pm

We have, and yet professional coaches keep picking him against your wishes in whatever position you don't want him to play.
And Kinghorn plays for Edinburgh ...., I see you didn't challenge any of my points though
I'm happy to see either in the team , same with DVDM / Graham / Steyn , its a 23 player game these days ,
Not too fussed who starts

I'm genuinely not influenced by who plays for Edinburgh or Glasgow when it comes to Scotland, you can choose to believe that or not, I don't give a monkey's.
What is the point in challenging your points? Do I go through numerous games and count dropped balls and missed tackles for both and weigh them against successful attacking opportunities and put them in a spreadsheet?
I think that is what the coaches do and it plays a part in how they select the team.
Except he’s not being considered as a 10 any longer and I have said I want him starting at 15, where he is being picked. Apart from that, great post.Tichtheid wrote: ↑Sat Sep 30, 2023 9:24 pmSlick wrote: ↑Sat Sep 30, 2023 9:20 pmWe’ve been round the houses a few times on this, he just has too many flaws in amongst the genius for me to ever feel completely comfortable with him. He's been covering 10 on the World Cup games so far.
Stop with great post shite, this is supposed to be NPR
As usual you are escalating things beyond what was a few folk discussing selection and then throwing your arms up like it’s everyone else that is unreasonable. You asked the bloody question in the first place.

Has he not been covering 10 in the games so far?
If not, who has?
The trouble with Kinghorn is that he has never really 'nailed down' a position - that's not always been his fault of course .
That also gives him a versatility though , which is attractive so that he can effectively cover multiple positions that other players don't ( you would never see Smith playing as a ten.)
I had really high hopes of Kinghorn , but for me ( and I am just speaking for myself) - he still has too many flaws , that give me a fear when playing top opposition. ( a bit like Gilchrist - not quite top drawer , and liable to brain farts )
I see Scotland with some great attacking options - but its the blend you need of both attack and defence
All that being said - if they both get picked to play against Ireland - then they have my 100% support
