I had to look that up, thinking it was some kind of religious cult. So it's a non-religious cult, with fellow (supposedly) former bad boys James O'Connor and Danny Cipriani swearing by it? Is it just hyper-masculine self-affirmation stuff? Are they 'toxically masculine'?sockwithaticket wrote: ↑Wed Feb 01, 2023 9:33 amNon-paywall version.

The opening paragraph made me laugh.
If producers spend enough time with Sinckler they'll find out what a nut Saviour World has turned him into and put him on screen as little as possible.Pennyhill Park, where England are preparing to face Scotland, has been infiltrated by a Netflix crew this week. If producers capture the charisma of Kyle Sinckler, rugby union will earn new fans. It is that simple.

Haven't actually been able to see any of their content bar the very vague titles, it seems to be pretty well locked behind paywalls, so I won't condemn them as toxically masculine out of hand. This is the third time I've seen or read Sinckler talk about men's role as protectors and providers, but that could just be his take on whatever he's paying them for.Niegs wrote: ↑Wed Feb 01, 2023 3:25 pmI had to look that up, thinking it was some kind of religious cult. Apparently, Eddie has interviewed for the Japan head coach role....from Paris just days after the Australian contingent arrived for their campaign

Wallabies boss Eddie Jones was secretly interviewed by Japanese rugby officials to take over as the country’s head coach just days before Australia’s Rugby World Cup campaign started in France.
The Wallabies coach is considering walking away from Australian rugby with four years remaining on his current deal after formal discussions about returning to Japan, the country he coached from 2012 to 2015.
In a development that could spark major ramifications for Rugby Australia amid the Wallabies’ faltering campaign in France, the Herald can reveal that Jones has been actively involved in the process underway to find a successor to incumbent Japan coach Jamie Joseph.
Sources with knowledge of negotiations who are unable to be identified due to the sensitive nature of the discussions told the Herald Jones has applied for the head coaching role with the Brave Blossoms, and took part in an online Zoom interview with JRFU officials on August 25. It was the first formal interview of the process.
Jones was at that time in Paris with the Wallabies, two days out from a World Cup warm-up match against France. The Wallabies lost that fixture 41-17 to slump to a 0-5 record since Jones returned to the helm.
The Herald put a list of questions to Jones this week through a Rugby Australia spokesperson. The Wallabies coach declined to comment, reiterating his position from last week that there was no truth to similar reports from Japan media and that his focus was on this weekend’s must-win match against Wales.
Rugby Australia chief executive Phil Waugh said in a statement: “I take people at their word and Eddie’s said there’s nothing in it. So, as far as I’m concerned, that’s the end of the story and everyone’s focus is on this weekend’s crucial game against Wales.”
Asked whether Jones had been interviewed, a Japan Rugby Football Union spokesperson said a selection process was “under way”.
“We have a policy that we won’t disclose any information about any candidates until we announce the new head coach, so unfortunately there is no comment from our president at the moment,” the spokesperson said. “The new head coach has not been decided yet.”
Just eight months have passed since Rugby Australia sacked Dave Rennie as Wallabies coach and announced the Kiwi would be replaced by Jones following the 63-year-old’s own dismissal as England boss late last year.
Jones is one of the last three candidates for the job after a highly confidential process which, according to the JRFU website, is being run by global executive search firm Odgers Berndtson and led by Troy de Haas, head of the company’s Asia-Pacific sport and entertainment practice.
The JRFU has insisted on running an independent process to appoint a world-class coach. Applications closed on August 18.
Jones last week denied being in the mix for the Japanese vacancy, dismissing a report from Japanese media that named him as a possible candidate as “bullshit and gossip”. South African coach Frans Ludeke was also mentioned in the report as a potential option.
Rugby Australia chair Hamish McLennan was influential in the decision to bring Jones back to Australia but will be faced with a huge problem if the Wallabies coach walks away.

They weren't work colleagues, no.
It's my daughter's partner, he was in a situation over a fair period of time where Jones could easily have been aloof and dismissive, but he was quite the opposite.

My mate is a consulting specialist coach and had been called in to England camp quite regularly by Jones. He tells me he was always friendly and polite to him but was an absolute cunt to his RFU staff, particularly the analysts.Tichtheid wrote: ↑Fri Oct 27, 2023 10:46 pm

A similar thing; Edinburgh Rugby fans always said Richard Cockerill was a very welcoming and pleasant person, Edinburgh Rugby players however…
My mate also worked with Cockerill at England, Tigers and Edinburgh (still does Edinburgh and Scotland). Jekyll and Hyde he called him........though not to his face!!!Tichtheid wrote: ↑Sat Oct 28, 2023 9:11 am

I don't know, maybe Smith, like Cippers before him is just not an England fly half. Personally I love watching Smith with Quins, I saw him when he first played for them at 18 or whatever it was and he got better every week in huge leaps, not incrementally in the slightest
I was coached by Cockerill at an England training thing in 1995. He was an absolute fucking bellend. This was subsequently confirmed by a mate who got him to do the after dinner speech for his halls of residence team at Uni, though admittedly said mate was asking him what it was like to be dropped for being a bellend, so he may have had a reason for being annoyed.Tichtheid wrote: ↑Sat Oct 28, 2023 9:11 am
