I've had enough of fucking rain... every one of my breaks since before Christmas has been wet. I've seen fuck all sun this summer. I can deal with it and all... but a few good days would be nice.

That and roads that don't fall apart at the sight of grey clouds.

I've only managed to go fishing twice so far this year. This time last year it was two or three times a week.

As for the roads - in the Far North, we welcome slips, as they are the only things that ever fill in the pot-holes and make the roads more drivable.

Here in the Bay of Potholes, we have neverending roadworks. A decent slip wouldn't stand a chance against our orange cones per metre rate.

I remember a family road trip we did one summer when I was 10 or 11. We stayed in Mangonui for a couple of days, and the first time my old man took us out a short distance from the beach the snapper almost threw themselves into the boat we caught so many. Can't wait to revisit the place, although I doubt the fishing's still so good.

Fishing isn't quite that good any more, though it tends to get better the further north and more remote you get. In saying that, the last time I took the kayak out and didn't manage to get at least a one days feed was 14 months ago.

Northland is a great place to live or visit (but don't leave valuables in your car - that's not just a stereotype ).

Not sure our Northland posters can post as they are getting strong winds and power outages. Wind and rain have arrived in the Tron but just a Wellington breeze at this stage

Windy as fuck up here in the hills, but no power issues as of yet. Wasn't nearly as bad down closer to sea level in Kerikeri this morning - but think we are still a way out from the worst of it.

Emergency alert just went off on my phone. Northland have declared a precautionary state of emergency so they have all the powers ready to go if neded.

Surf was up in Piahia when I was in town early, with surges causing minor flooding on one section of the road. From the splashing not draining awsy rather than the sea reaching sea road level.

We in SEQ are feeling the cyclone's effect in the form of hot air from the west and north-west moving coastward due to the low pressure across the Tasman. It's thirty fecking nine degrees here right now altho', thankfully, not particularly humid.

Time to purchase beer, IMO.

Drinking lots of water as well is the trick. Which also keeps one from drinking as much beer as one otherwise would.

Power out as of 11pm last night. Current predicted resolution for the outage on our road is 21:00pm. On Friday.

I don't think the chook eggs in my incubator are going to make it. Concerned about my freezer full of fish bait now too.

Starting to really piss down here in Katikati, not too much wind yet, which hopefully for our avocado grower's sakes will stay away, they had a bad enough season from last years cyclone around the same time, two years in a row will be devastating.

The horrible diseased tree on the verge outside our house is swaying like a drunk at a disco. The bloody thing had three big branches off it in November, which just missed my car and kissed the neighbour's car with the twigs at the ends.

My wife informed the Council, who swiftly responded only last week.asking if the branches were still there. She replied, saying no, another neighbour chopped them up and got rid of them. She also casually mentioned said neighbour is an 86 year old woman.

Yeah, I’ve a diseased ash on my boundary & it was doing the same sway during Debi & drops branches during storms, but it’ll be a pig to bring down safely, as there’s power lines on one side my house on the other, & other big trees either side.

These are the current power outages across the Irish Network 170k connections, so some people could be waiting a very long time for power again, there just aren't enough crews, & it's the entire length of the Country

Bureau of Meteorology duty forecaster Jessica Lingard said the heat would be especially high over the weekend for those living in western parts of the Pilbara.

"We're forecasting temperatures of nearly 50 degrees in the western parts of the Pilbara, an hour's drive south of Onslow," Ms Lingard said.

As this heatwave started to hit last week, some sort of freak storm took out transmission lines leaving many areas including the town of Kalgoorlie without power...

yup. No power, so no air con or water supply, in the middle of a 50C heatwave.

The old dear next door's fence came down and she asked me to help her put. I went out to take the top three quarters of the slats off (ranch style fence) to take the weight off it, to not only find that her husband had screwed the slats on but had used one Phillips and one slotted screw on each post. Great fun in the rain and wind trying to remove twenty year old screws instead of just pulling the slats off with a jemmy.

Pozi drive should be the only screw in existence. Can't understand why anyone uses slotted, other than on decorative fixings.

Anyway, the next part of the story is that she actually fainted when I told her the cost of the materials to replace the fence.
