I nearly put this in the 'Things that don't deserve their own thread' but decided it did deserve its own thread.

Glasgow vet Jasmin Paris becomes the first woman ever to complete the Barklay Marathon. A race so hard that there were no finishers at all from 2017 to 2023.

In 2019 she was the first woman to win (as in over all winner) the 268 mile Spine Race where she broke the record by 12 hours. While stopping to express milk for her baby on the way.

I'd not linked the two until I was reading some background, but it was after reading about one of her earlier feats that I came across research that stated that whilst women get closer to men in performance the longer the event, they actually surpass men beyond 200 miles. Hardly anyone of any sex does these events but results are pretty clear that women get close to men the longer the event and a few have been beating them in the mega long ones.

A quick look there would have shown you it has already been posted and mention was even made of her deserving her own thread.

Edinburgh rather than Glasgow - She is a small-animal vet and a senior lecturer in the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies at the University of Edinburgh.

She is also a Vegan - certainly shows how healthy that lifestyle can be.
Lager & Lime - we don't do cocktails

High altitude mountaineering. Once you take physical strength out of the equation, women are better physiologically suited to that activity.

Nothing particularly high altitude about the Barkley marathons. Just a brutal amount of elevation gain on rough terrain.

Somebody I know is a fell runner. She said that Jasmin was way faster than most even when she hadn't been fell running for long. Just a very talented and motivated person.

The biggest success factor in ultra events seems to be being highly intelligent academics. Loads of them excelling at these sorts of events.

I am a training buddy with the Lejog record holder.

He is a very intellectual maths teacher. He does equations in his head as he is riding.

Edit 43 hours, 25 minutes and 13 seconds for those that are interested

I'd say not. You hear about rowers and cyclists having problems later in life so this has to be another level up.

I was cheering Jasmin on at work when she finished the Barkley. I was then going to claim her for Scotland (she is originally from Derbyshire) but as she presented the match ball at the women’s Scotland v France game, I think she has done that herself!

One of my colleagues is a serious ultra-runner (one of the guys who made loop 5 at the Barkley is her coach) and finished the spine race when Jasmin won it overall. She thinks Jasmin is basically superhuman.
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.
