Turning to the Dark Side
That is a very silly thing to say about Bellingham, given his dominance in an average Dortmund team then his frankly absurd debut season in Madrid.

England so something is different.
Probably has something to do with him being 12 years old and playing for a team that is more negative than Biffer...Blackmac wrote: Sun Jun 30, 2024 6:40 pmNot doubting the lads ability but rarely looks that player forJM2K6 wrote: Sun Jun 30, 2024 6:37 pmThat is a very silly thing to say about Bellingham, given his dominance in an average Dortmund team then his frankly absurd debut season in Madrid.Blackmac wrote: Sun Jun 30, 2024 6:34 pm
Hard to call a goal like that jammy, however England look shit. You wonder if the likes of Bellingham and Foden look better with their clubs because of the quality around them.
England so something is different.
He is an extraordinary player and rightly considered one of the best in the world. He's had a poor tournament after the opening 45 minutes but the sheer awfulness of the entire team and the appalling management has a lot to do with that. He's now saved us twice, so not doing too bad despite his form!
Fair enough. Unlike Biffer, I'm not one of those Scots who would have been happy with an England defeat at this stage. Would far prefer for them to progress further so the agony is prolonged and more severe when it inevitably comes.JM2K6 wrote: Sun Jun 30, 2024 6:45 pmProbably has something to do with him being 12 years old and playing for a team that is more negative than Biffer...Blackmac wrote: Sun Jun 30, 2024 6:40 pmNot doubting the lads ability but rarely looks that player forJM2K6 wrote: Sun Jun 30, 2024 6:37 pm

I have no objection to this path of events.Blackmac wrote: Sun Jun 30, 2024 7:34 pmFair enough. Southgate is actually mental and the luckiest man alive.
Didn't make his second sub until the 84th minute and his third sub until the 90th something minute.
Never seen a football coach less willing to make use of the attacking options on his bench when his starting XI are not performing.
Switzerland will knock this shambles out.

Southgate is a lucky bastard. Trippier and walker were both shite offering fuck all going forward and looking well and truly past their best. Mainoo improved the midfield balance. Foden was epically shit and gets in Bellinghams and Kanes way. He evidently can't operate outside of guardiola's system/special sauce and the left flank was awful again. We lack a player of runs in behind or stretches the play like Gordon or rashford would.
I predicted it. I’m conditioned to expect this sort of thing from England, but seriously, in the 7th minute of 6 minutes’ stoppage time? Jammy really is the word.
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.

Our greatest strength lies not in the starting XI.
It's in the fact we have about 16 players who have a genuine shout to start. In addition to yesterdays starting XI: Palmer, Watkins, Gordon, TAA +1 (depending on scenario Eze, Toney etc).
This is why Southgate's inflexibility is so maddening. He must have made about a dozen subs in the tournament so far and I'd say 80% have positively impacted the game. Example: our second goal came from a free kick delivered by Palmer (which was better than any set piece delivery from Foden) which the keeper could not claim. Then the ball is struck by Eze before being headed on by Toney. Those were his first three subs.
Yet he waits and waits and waits to bring players on as of it is the last thing he wants to do. If I were in his shoes I would make my first sub at halftime and then look to add a player every ten minutes or so from the 60th onwards.
I know you don't want to tinker too heavily with the balance of the side but like I said I think about 4 in every 5 of his subs makes an impact on the game. He needs to trust his bench.

Hard to see the clock through his thick mist of spittle, in fairness
Old men forget: yet all shall be forgot, But he'll remember with advantages, What feats he did that day
That hasn't crossed the line. More jam.

Wow.

“Facts are meaningless. You could use facts to prove anything that's even remotely true.”

Edit: Watkins or Toney for Kane would add pace or physicality.
Probably still faster than Kane and it would remove the most dangerous strain of spursiness that even struck down Bayern Munich.
