Few people go from hero to zero with quite the rapidity of Stuart Hogg. I wonder slightly if his sudden retirement was because he saw this coming down the road and decided to get out of the limelight before it hit.

I don't think he's that self-aware.

Usually a breach of bail would mean you are locked up to appear the next day. Not sure of the circumstances but presumably arrested Tuesday to appear today. Silly fucker might find himself with more severe bail restrictions now.

I remember as a young cop there was a very high profile retired footballer who ended up in exactly the same spiral. Too arrogant and stupid to adhere to his bail conditions and got in ever increasing bother.

The Hoggy situation is like a slow motion train crash happening right before our eyes. I refuse to believe all the story’s I’ve heard over the last 12 months can be true (even a pro sportsman hasn’t got that much stamina) but if 10% of them are true then his fall from grace is well deserved !

Like having his passport removes and being unable to travel to France for pre-season at Montpellier?
What an utter dickhead.

That team selection is, er, interesting. I know Canada aren't as good as they have been, but that is a very inexperienced Scotland team. Hope it's not another embarrassing result!

I like it, I think...

Dobie starting on the wing is interesting though!

And with that, this thread becomes as long as the England.one - onwards, guys!

If you put that out as an A team it would look reasonable.

Ross McCann - two appearances for Edinburgh and on the bench. If he gets on that must be about the lowest numbers of games pre cap.

Not sure about Dobie on the wing, would prefer Steyn (or VDM) to start so there's a bit of experience there but an interesting enough looking team

I just wish someone would give Dobie a bloody run at 9. I’m convinced he is our best scrum half if he got a decent run. It’s very frustrating

I suppose they want Warr capped as well

Same numbers of appearances as Adam Ashe back in 2014. Although with 142 minutes from 2 starts, McCann is positively a veteran compared to Ashe's 34 mins from 2 game as a sub!

Ashe started (and played the full 80) in his first cap as well - against South Africa.

It would never have occurred to me that Ashe was capped that quickly. You live and learn.

Now that you mention it, it sort of is. A lot of the players are ones who have been in and around the Scotland setup for a while, so the names are very familiar, but when you look at the actual cap numbers they are very low.

I’m not that bothered even if they lose though. It’s all about blooding the new guys…

Canada are absolutely dreadful nowadays so an upset is up there with worst result of all time (USA a few years back).

Dobie on the wing is disappointing as he's on the wing as Scotland other than Reed (English developed) have absolutely nobody even close to pro standard (see Ross McCann hanging around) in the pipeline. Aside from I guess Henry (who I think is injured again?) there's nobody even to give a cap to for the future.

They're too young and wouldn't be pro guys yet anyway. The young wingers are guys like Logan Trotter and Ross McKnight who never got a sniff of gametime.

Yup, unfortunately Glasgow instead chose to consistently play Cancelliere and McKay on their way to winning the title.

Jonny Gray has joined Bordeaux. I'm not sure a punishing French season is what I would have chosen following major knee-reconstruction and a season and a half out injured. Nevertheless, hopefully they can finally find a way to turn him into the hard hitting hard yard making dog he should have become.

Toony has said in an interview that he thinks SH is Dobie’s best position too, and he’ll get a shot there later in the tour.

Jonny is maybe Scottish rugby’s greatest enigma. He was so good when he broke through that he eclipsed his older brother, and by any measure he has had a good career, but we all thought he’d become a world class player and he just didn’t. I reckon the issue with both Gray brothers is that they are too damn nice for international rugby.

Loan them to Edinburgh who had Chris Dean on the wing.

Not been the issue with Ritchie Gray for the last few years. Jonny under Franco finds his aggression again.

Richie Gray was carrying really well when he played at Toulouse before he came back to Glasgow, in fact it's the best all round I've seen him play

I’m guessing there’s no way to watch the game tonight if you don’t have Premier Sports?

Is it on Premier Sports? I didn’t see it yesterday
D’oh. I meant TNT. Sorry.
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.

It's on TNT Sports, which I have, but I believe VIP box has been working all day for the other games
Never used VIP box before. It claims to have the game, but clicking on any of the links on their homepage pitches you into nested adverts. Is there something different I need to do?

Or use another browser that blocks them. Try Brave.

If you happen to find yourself virtually in, say, the Netherlands, it's free to watch on RugbyPass.
