Some interesting policing at Manchester airport yesterday evening



GMP released a statement after saying a female officer had been assaulted and had her nose broken. Armed officers were fearful for their weapons etc.



Regardless of what happened before, the threat's massively reduced by the point the video picks up and it's pure retribution from there on in. Lad dishing it out has lost it.

Then he drops his knee into the kidneys of the guy lying on the ground, the guy he's booted and stamped on after tasering.

I'm guessing 2 of those officers are probably okay and the 'hospital treatment' thing is a formality for any bumps and bruises sustained in an incident like that. Certainly only the female officer on the video looked visibly injured.

I know a DCI who was in charge of firearms officers who might disagree with the description that his charges were workshy lazy bastards.

I haven't a clue what pressure police officers are under at airports or any public transport hubs. In the last 20 years or so that pressure must have increased massively, places like Manchester and London will see increased levels of security because of what has happened in the past, but that officer's job is to remain calm in the the most extreme circumstances.

He failed that particular test.

Years ago they introduced kicks to officer safety training. I recall looking on in disdain as the trainers demonstrated them and then refusing to practice the technique. One of the trainers got pissed off and asked what was wrong and I pointed out that there was not a chance i hell I was ever going to use the technique because the optics were so bloody horrible.

Several hours later the armed lot rocked up, stacked up like they were breaching a compound in Afghan and shouting at everyone to get back in case the (unarmed) self hostage who had not been threatening anyone injured us. I laughed a lot and walked outside.

Yeah, I spent a number of years in drugs and surveillance. We have a saying in surveillance that if you get spotted you have been burnt. This was just a silly figure of speech, however on one occasion we were in Liverpool and I was preparing do deploy inside a covert surveillance van into a shit area of Liverpool. The local drug squad made it more than clear that if you were spotted you would actually get burnt as they would likely petrol bomb the van. It was a sobering moment.

That's good to hear. Scotland has been sensible as they hadn't yet introduced the full degree requirement. Sadly politicians and senior officers have forgotten there is a difference between intelligent and smart.
