Perhaps Moerat is one of those type of players that Kolisi spoke about. A player that has shown he is willing to learn, a player that has something but can be upskilled.
Perhaps the players you back are not of those who think they need to upskill. Like the du Preez broers who perhaps think that no one can teach them something because Pa het ons als geleer.
Moerat comes from a big rugby family, he's not some nobody who wouldn't have been taught by his father. His father played in the SARU structures (outside the SA Rugby Board structures, in protest, it was ANC aligned), along with guys like Peter de Villiers and Alister Coetzee. In a place like Paarl there would be Federation structures (SA Rugby Board aligned, think Errol Tobias and Avril Williams) and SARU structures which were mostly built around coloured clubs. When all the governing bodies were amalgamated it was all called SARU, which makes it confusing to explain. The Moerat family is strongly connected to the Vineyards club in Paarl (their family founded it back in the 1940s), he played for that club before he played schools rugby. Something you're not going to hear about, is coloured clubs often do segregate among themselves informally or formally, Vineyards had actual written rules to stop non-Muslims joining the club (it literally opposed racial segregation whilst it supported religious segregation).
Wrong to think someone from that background definitely cannot be arrogant about that background. Always a bad sign when we us fans know shit loads about a player's family background without looking for it, before they've even done anything and what they have done looks average. Which is why SFM is interesting, you never hear that he is Barry Feinberg's grandson, a name like that is struggle royalty but that generation had some decency and are nothing like the Watsons and Kebbles.
As for the Du Preez bros, I wouldn't be certain their Afrikaans is good enough to know what you said. Which I do think could well be part of the reason they did a grandpa Simpson for the Boks, leaving as soon as they arrived.
